This is the story of Bakhtaur Singh or popularly known as Bakhtaura Jatt . He belonged to village Ganga (district Sirsa ,Haryana). His father was a farmer and they had sufficient land for agri.,when bakhtaura was young. Due to this reason that they were good zimindars, everybody from the nearby villages wanted to engage their daughter with the Bakhtaur. Bakhtaur was about six seven years old when he was engaged to a girl, named Bhag Kaur (Bhagi), from a village Sravaan. It was just done by their parents with mutually consent. After some years Bakhtaur’s family grew weaker as their was famine in the area and it effected this family badly. They had to sell part of land for survival. Bakhtaur was busy in improving the condition of his family. He worked harder each day. He also had it in his mind that he had to marry his sister. This made him work harder and harder. One day when he was coming back from the fields he was called by a panditani on the way. She in formed him that she was sent by his fiancée Bhag Kaur with a message. The message was that his fiancée was forced to marry some other person from some other village. She said that she (Bhagi) would be waiting for him at a particular place on a given date. The reason behind this was that girls parents now knew that Bakhtaura’s family wasn’t that strong now. But Bhagi had always dreamt of Bakhtaura as her husband and wanted him to take her away with him.

Bakhtaura talked to his family and he decided to get the girl. In those days as girls were often killed after the birth therefore their population was too low. And if someone wasn’t able to marry his fiancée (mang) he was considered as coward. Due to more number of boys than girls ,no one even dreamt of getting a second chance…….. Finally the date came and Bakhtaur got his camel ready. His sister gave a good amount of liquor to the camel so that it could run quicker. There is a famous saying for this "Bhain Bakhtaure jatt di lande uth nu sharaab piave

Bakhtaura went to the girls village. He also had few of his friends with him in case of any clash with the girls family took place. Bhagi was waiting for him at place she had told and no clash took place. They safely returned home. Bakhtaura’s generation still lives in the village Ganga, Distt.Sirsa ,Haryana.
