Mahant Bhai Tirath Singh Ji was selected as the 12th Mahant of Tikana Bhai Jagta Ji Sahib by Mahant Bhai Asa Singh Ji, the 11th Spiritual descendant of Bhai Kanhaiya Ji, whose soul left his mortal form to merge with the Supreme Soul about a year after anointing Bhai Tirath Singh (January 1st, 1974) as his successor.

Bhai Tirath Singh Ji was a scholar and a man of letters, who was schooled at the Taksal run by Giani Sant Amir Singh Ji, who in his lifetime taught many renowned scholars and many saints, and advised personalities such as Bhai Sahib Bhai Vir Singh Ji as well. Mahant Sahib sent Bhai Tirath Singh Ji to regular school, where Bhai Tirath Singh Ji learnt English, as well. After completing his education, Bhai Tirath Singh Ji travelled a lot to represent the Tikana Sahib at various occasions, while Bhai Kahan Singh stayed by Mahant Sahib's side always serving him lovingly.
