Kal is a Punjabi word which refers to death and being subject to the cycle of formation and destruction. It is also used to refer to the cycle itself. ie: "Kal bhugt raha hah" - living my [life] cycle". The opposite of "Kal" is "Akal" which refers to an entity which is not subject to the cycle of birth and death. The word "Kal" is used fairly frequently in the Sikh scriptures. The word "kali" means the color "black".
