The Tomars trace their lineage to the Puruvansh, the dynasty of the Pandava brothers of Indraprastha from the Mahabharata era. Unlike other Sainis, they were not originally of Yaduvanshi descent but later aligned with their brother Dynasty of Yaduvansh, the Shoorsaini/Saini lineage of the Chandravansha, for reasons that remain unknown. |

The Tamber or Tanwar surname is part of the Saini caste which dominates many villages across Hoshiarpur, Nawansher, Jalandhar and Gurdaspur. Their occupation is mostly farming and agriculture and hold a strong position in the society they live in. Many of these communities have become successful, especially from their hard work they contribute in society, and many of these Saini community are NRIs.
