13 Soh Ghodswar Misl

13 Soh Ghodswar misl ( 1300 Horseman misl ) is the oldest misl of Sikh history. Nowadays it is also known as Dashmesh Tarna Dal Panchwan Nishan Misl. It is oldest Misl of sikhs. It was Started by Guru Gobind Singh Ji himself by giving PUGG and JATEHDARI to Baba Bir Singh Rangreta Bangesar, and his younger brother Baba Dhir Singh Rangreta ji. Tehra Soh Ghod Swaar Misl ( 13 Soh Ghod Swaar misl ) or thirteen hundred horse man, was a misl of Baba Bir Singh Ranghreta ( Baba Bir Singh Bangesar/ Bangsi ) which was formed by Guru Gobind Singh Ji himself on the bank of sersa river. Baba Bir Singh Rangreta got Jatehdaari of his father on Sersa river, and under leadership of Baba Mani Singh Rangreta, and Bir Singh Rangreta , Dheer Singh Rangreta, Mata Sahib devan and Mata Sundri ji send under protection along with 25 sikh soldiers to Delhi and they are informed that, they do not return back before getting a Hukamnama from the Guru Gobind Singh Ji. That's why Baba Bir Singh Rangreta and Dheer Singh Rangreta had not participated in Battle of Chamkaur and Battle of Muktsar. Baba Bir Singh Rangreta was big brother of Baba Dhir Singh. 1300 Ghodswaar misl consist only Ranghreta sikhs warriors of Sikh community.[1][2][3]

According to Sir Daniel Abbastons and H.A Rose book; (A glossary of tribes and castes Punjab and north west frontier" Part-II, pg.57)

Baba Bir Singh Rangreta belongs to Bangus/Bansi/Bangsi/Bhangusi tribe of Afghanistan and Punjab region, or be can say that old area of undivided Punjab and Saptsindhu.[4]

According to Ratan singh Bhangu: How Aala Singh regards Baba Bir singh Rangreta:

How Baba Ala Singh had a great regard for Baba Bir Singh is described by Bhangoo Sahib as under:-

Bir Singh the youthful champion is known as Ranghretta, so to says, But when his flag unfurled1300 horsemen accompanied him and his drum was beaten. He rode his horse ahead of every body, followed by others. He led them in the midest of battle. That is why the Panth remembers him.

Military Position

This Misl was most strongest Misl of Sikhs and have maximum number of soldiers which was only belongs to Rangreta community. They were appointed at the Bangash area of Punjab and Afghanistan border. This region called Bangash because it was habitant by Bangash tribe of Pathans. Baba Bir Singh Rangreta's Misl 13 Soh Ghodswar got success in controlling the invading activities of Pathans in this region. According to Ratan Singh Bhangu, Shamsher Singh Ashok and many writers and historians, this Misl was the most fearsome Misl of Sikhs at that time.
