Chandi Di Vaar is pious Bani written on Dasam Granth. It starts with salutation to Gurmat and fight is between qualities(Gurmukh) and quality less(Manmukh). It's Slap on basic Markandya Purana concepts . There are 40 Paurhis of this Vaar.
It is based upon Hindu characters and Hindu mythology. However, Guru Gobind Singh did not intend for this to be read as support of these Hindu myths. It was written to highlight acts of extreme daring and bravery on the battlefield and to show a battle between the forces of good and evil. Let us read this composition as a part of Sikh history and also remember it as an example of the great poetic prowess of Guru Gobind Singh.
Chandi Charitar vs Chandi di Vaar
The Markandya Purana and Bhagwad purana chapters which are written in Chandi Charitar, are copy of those. In those purana, these chapters are under Durga Saptsati. From those granths Guru Sahib gave their own style and wrote them in DasamGranth. The Same Actors of Chandi Charitars are picked and their war is described as act of Gurmat and Manmatt in Chandi Di Vaar.
- In Chandi Charitar, many things are against Gurmat, but in Chandi di Vaar it is not.
- In Chandi Chariter, Creation of Universe is given wrongly as it is copy of Chandi Saptsati but here in CHandi di vaar it is not.
- In Chandi Charitar, Some Ox is having earth on his head.
-> nakli note dikha ke asal note d pachan hou(To show real thing one have to show fake one), sly concept applied here.
Why this Vaar Composed?
- The Creation of universe is equated with Gurmat which was against in chandi charitar.
- The location of earth is corrected.
- Fight between Gurmat and Manmat, the same deamon/diety fight is shown.
- Only Gurmukh Wins, in end the truth win. Durga is symbol of truth here.
- The vaar is against Deity worship, which is cleared from bani.

ਭਗਉਤੀ - Gurmat, ਭਗਵੰਤ - God, ਭਗਿਤ - Devotee, ਕਾ ਰੰਗ - Colour

- Khanda = Khanda Means realms(ਪਰੀਆ ਖੰਡਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਇਕ ਪੈਰਿ ਧਿਆਝ ॥), It means Two Edged Sword which symbolize two kind of Matt exist. It have two Edges we call It Dohdhari Khanda. Gurmukh and Manmukh are also two edges, which oppose each other. Paap Punn dono mil ke srishat upaye
- Demons(Rakshash): Who stick to Manmukhta, Agyani, against gurmat totally.
- Deities(Devta): Unclear Party, not clear with concepts of gurmat, but belief is there.
Gurmat Translations
Begin
ੴ ਵਾਹਿਗਰੂ ਜੀ ਕੀ ਫਤਹ ॥
Starts with ੴ, means related to Gurmat. A Brahmin or Pundit never starts writing from ੴ. It means the Veechardhara of Bani is related to Adi Granth Sahib. It means God is one.
What is Fateh? Fateh Bhaye man Jeet. Gyan kharag lai man seyo jujhe. When one wins the Mann then the victory is of God, not ours.
ਸਰੀ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਜੀ ਸਹਾਇ ॥

Bhagauti is not Durga here or any Bhavani. It will be cleared in second Paurhi. What Bhagauti actually is

ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਗਿਤ ਕਾ ਰੰਗ ॥ (Page 274, Line 10) ਭਗਉਤੀ - Gurmat, ਭਗਵੰਤ - God, ਭਗਿਤ - Devotee, ਕਾ ਰੰਗ - Colour
Question : Who is Bhagauti? Answer : Which have Color of Bhagwant, The Color of Bhagti of.(ਜਿਸ ਕੋਲ ਭਗਵੰਤ = ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਦੀ ਭਗਿਤ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ = ਗਰੂ ਕੀ ਮਿਤ ਹੋਵੇ !) Which means it's color of god's way which a Bhagat have.
ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਦਸਟ ਕਾ ਸੰਗ ॥
ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗੈ - Total Leave, ਦਸਟ ਕਾ ਸੰਗ - the Company of Dushat(Manmatt)
Totaly leave the company of Dushat(which is Mann, i.e Manmatt).
So Bhagauti means Gurmat which have colour of God which a Bhagat Adheres like person who have Sikhi is a Sikh. A Bhagat of Bhagwant have Gurmat.

It consists of Aradhna of Gurmat. How Gurus meditate on Gurmat. Let's Start:
ਪਰਿਥਮ ਭਗੌਤੀ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਕੈ ਗਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਈ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
It means that Guru Sahib first praying Bhagauti, Taking the support of Bhagauti which was once meditated by Guru Nanak Sahib.
Guru Nanak Sahib found and meditate on Bhagauti(Gurmat) and Guru Gobind Singh meditating on the same Bhagauti which means Gurmat. Gurmat was shown by Guru Nanak and other gurus recited it.
ਫਿਰ ਅੰਗਦ ਗਰ ਤੇ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਰਾਮਦਾਸੈ ਹੋਈ ਸਹਾਇ ॥

ਭਗੌਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਸਹਾਇ - Helped By Bhagauti(Gurmat)
It means that same Bhagauti helped(ਸਹਾਇ) Guru Angad Dev, Guru Amar Dass and Guru Ramdass. Gurmat is always helpful to its follower.
ਅਰਜਨ ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨੋ ਸਿਮਰੌ ਸਰੀ ਹਰਿਰਾਇ ॥
Same Bhagauti was meditated upon by Guru Arjun Dev, Guru Har Gobind and Guru Har Rai.
ਸਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਸ਼ਨ ਧਿਆਈਝ ਜਿਸ ਡਿਠੇ ਸਭਿ ਦਖਿ ਜਾਇ ॥

ਭਗੌਤੀ ਧਿਆਈਝ - did Meditation on Bhagauti
Guru Har Krishen also meditated(ਧਿਆਈਝ = ਧਿਆਈ + ਝ) on same Bhagauti(Gurmat), whose blessings could throw away all pains and sufferings of heart.
ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਸਿਮਰਿਝ ਘਰ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਆਵੈ ਧਾਇ ॥

ਭਗੌਤੀ ਸਿਮਰਿਝ - did Meditation on Bhagauti
Guru Tegh Bhadur also Meditated(ਸਿਮਰਿ + ਝ) on the same Bhagauti and due to it's blessings, person can attain nine nidhs of Tann and Mann.
ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਹੋਇ ਸਹਾਇ ॥੧॥
The Bhagauti is helpful at every place, every moment.
Notice: Acc. to Dharam Singh, This is first pauri, Pauri Shabad was removed in 1966. As some says that it is not pauri to those it is questioned if it is not pauri then what it is? which chant? even some versions of chandi di vaar have many mistakes like ਨੋ(No) is exact word but 'Nu' is found in some new books, sly ਲਈ is real word but in some books it is written as Layin. Readers Beware. Refer Old Beerhs of Dasam Granth Sahib to get proper wordings.

- The message of the Pauri is Gurmat is great.
- Birth of Gurmat and how it was travelled Jot by Jot, in 10 Gurus.
- Guru Gobind Singh Sahib where reciting name of Gurmat there he is provoking sikhs of gurus to meditate on same gurmat, to walk on same gurmat.
- Guru Granth Sahib is Ustati of Guru and Dasam Granth is Ustati of Gurmat.
Pauri 2
ਖੰਡਾ ਪਰਿਥਮੈ ਸਾਜ ਕੈ ਜਿਨ ਸਭ ਸੈਸਾਰ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
Acc. to Gurmat Translations it is translated in two ways:
> God first Created Realms then he made the whole world.
> Khanda have two edges in on opposite side which are sharp enough, the world have two directions Gurmukh and Manmukh,
ਬਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨ ਮਹੇਸ ਸਾਜਿ ਕਦਰਤਿ ਦਾ ਖੇਲ ਰਚਾਇ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥
He created Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva and made this play of Nature. It means God is himself a Creator, Nurisher and destroyer. There is no Brahma Vishnu or Mahesh appointed for these purposes. ਬਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨ ਸਿਰੇ ਤੈ ਅਗਨਤ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਮੋਹ ਭਯਾ ਮਨ ਮਦ ਕਾ ॥
ਸਿੰਧ ਪਰਬਤ ਮੇਦਨੀ ਬਿਨ ਥੰਮਹਾ ਗਗਨਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥
Only God created ocean, mountains earth without any support.
Here the wrong concept of Chandi Saptsati i.e the earth is standing on some Bull, the earth is standing without any support in sky (ਬਿਨ ਥੰਮਹਾ ਗਗਨਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥)
ਸਿਰਜੇ ਦਾਨੋ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬਾਦ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥
Only ""You"" created two opposite forces one are called Danav or Deamons or Manmukhs and other Devte or deities who believe in god and they both always fight with each other.
ਤੈ ਹੀ ਦਰਗਾ ਸਾਜਿ ਕੈ ਦੈਤਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥
Take care towards this line, only YOU created Durga, or Bhavani or Bhagwati who killed all evils. Remember here Durga Symbolizes Gurmat which cuts Manmatt i.e evils or deamons.
ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਬਲ ਰਾਮ ਲੈ ਨਾਲ ਬਾਣਾ ਦਹਸਿਰ ਘਾਇਆ ॥
This is also an insult of so Called Ramachandra, it clearly says that Rama have nothing of it's own, It's YOU who gave Power to rama so that he able to kill Dehsar i.e Ravana.
ਤੈਥੋਂ ਹੀ ਬਲ ਕਰਿਸਨ ਲੈ ਕੰਸ ਕੇਸੀ ਪਕੜਿ ਗਿਰਾਇਆ ॥
This is another saying which says that Even So Called Lord Krishna Got power from you and kill kansh by grabbing his hair.
ਬਡੇ ਬਡੇ ਮਨਿ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਕਈ ਜਗ ਤਿਨੀ ਤਨ ਤਾਇਆ ॥
Not small remember, Big big pious figures, famous reverd saints and sages are trying to get you for many many yugas
ਕਿਨੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
