'Mool Mantar' - Truth The same blog in Punjabi language can be viewed at http://moolmantardasach.blogspot.com

One who merging his consciousness in the Word establishes a relationship of Guru and disciple, only that disciple devoting himself to the Guru and progressing from worldliness attunes his consciousness in and with the Lord. ‘’GURBANI IS JAG MAHE CHANAN, means [the gurbani is the enlightening source in world ] We are enlightened by the Waheguru ji himself so that we may be capable to understand the deepest and hidden meanings of Gurbani. The daily prayer of a seeker (Sikh) helps him in this regard. When Adi Guru Granth was compiled by fifth guru Sri Guru Arjan Dev ji, a Sikh present there asked Guru jithat though the granth is written but who will understand it? The humble reply of Guru ji was to Sikh is a guideline to understand Gurbani. Guru ji said, ‘ BAANI LAO BEECHARSI JE KO GURMUKH HOE' means The Gurmukhs have had the glimpse of imperceptible Lord who is the fruit of delights , and how can one understand it. That has also been explained as, ‘HAR CHARAN LAAG RAHU TU GUR SABAD SOJHI HOI' means if you dedicate yourself to Guru and have faith, you shall feel the heavenly pleasure through Gurbani. This secret of Mool Mantar or Basic concept is revealed by Guru ji only which I am going to share with you here.

When Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji compiled the Ad Granth, he chose Bhai Gurdas Ji to inscribe the entire text. Bhai Gurdas Ji also composed Vaars which are valued for their vivid exposition of the teachings of the Gurus. Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji put his seal of approval on them by designating them as the “key” to the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. In Vaar 39 (see below), Bhai Sahib gives an explanation of the complete Mool Mantar, confirming once again that it strats at ‘IK-ONKAR SATNAM KARTA PURAKH' ends with ‘NANAK HOSI BHI SACH’.

Here is the full Pauri of Bhai Gurdaas ji's Vaar!

One Oankar, the primal energy, realized through the grace of the divine master. That Supreme Reality (God) first was written as numeral one (in Mool Mantar – the root formula) and then He was in scribed as Ura syllable of Gurmukhi, further pronounces as Oankar. Then He was called Satnam, the Truth by name, Kartapurakh, the creator Lord, nirbhao, the fearless one, and nirvier, without rancour. Then emerging as the timeless Akal Murat to be called as unborn and self-existent. Realized through the grace of Guru, the divine master, the current of this primeval Truth (God) has continuously been moving since before the beginning and throughout the Ages. He is verily the Truth and will continue to be the Truth for ever. The True Guru has made available (for me) the glimpse of this Truth. One who merging his consciousness in the Word establishes a relationship of Guru and disciple, only that disciple devoting himself to the Guru and progressing from worldliness attunes his consciousness in and with the Lord. The Gurmukhs have had the glimpse of imperceptible Lord who is the fruit of delights.

I would also like to inform the readers that I have been a Nirmalaa saint in my teen age at Devpura ashram—Haridwar and well aware to differentiate the Mool Mantar and Mangalaachran. This Mool mantar is recited in the beginning of a holy cause whereas Managlaacharan can be recited anytime in between the ongoing holy cause.

Mool means :- Root, as the root of a tree holds it to stand straight upwards on ground or say the root is the base of everything. Mool Mantar is also the base of Gurbani because to recite thy true name (Naam) is stressed in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji which connects the disciple (Sikh) with his Guru. Thus Mool Mantar define the qualities of Akal Purakh Waheguru ji whose true name is mandatory to every Sikh to recite. The Mantar is called the recitation which is given by Guru.

Mangal means :- Pious or good, beneficial which benefits the devotee.

Aachran means :- Behavior or words. When both these words are pronounced together, it becomes Managalaachran means good behavior, good words or beneficiary deeds.

Now we have come to know the difference in both these words, Mool Mantar is to be recited at the beginning of the holy/religious cause and Mangalaacharan—in esteem pleasure in between anytime of the ongoing holy cause but the Mool Manatr, which is the base to the holy cause started– has to be recited to praise the Lord Akal Purakh at beginning of the cause only.

FIRST OF ALL LORD WAHEGURU AKAL PURAKH, ANY OTHER THING NEXT TO IT.

Mangalaacharan is this :- IK-ONKAAR SATNAAM KARTAA PURAKH NIRBHAO NIRVAIR AKAL MOORAT AJUNI SAI BHN GUR PARSAAD !! This Mangalaachran is the definition of the qualities of Lord Akal Purakh Waheguru ji. Many writers and Sikh scholars verify Mool Mantar from 'Ik Ongkaar ..up to.. Gur Parsaad but after going through all observations by having faith in Guru Sahib, by follwing the true path shown by Gurus shall prove that the real Mool Mantar is from ‘Ik Ongkaar .. Up to.. Nanak hosi bhi sach’ but before we proceed ahead let us have a look on these evidences;

1)- Every couplet/hymn in Sri Guru Granth Sahib is closed in the end by applying four straight upwards lines and giving a number to it. Wherever two lines are applied, it continues like in Sukhmani Sahib ji.

2)- If you go through Sukhmani Sahib, there are two straight lines are applied in the end of every line but where the ASHTPADI completes, four straight lines with a particular number are applied. Similarly where two straight lines are applied in Mool mantar the continuity remains as these two straight lines are applied at ‘Gur Parsaad’ but it ends at ‘Nanak hosi bhi sach’ where it is closed by applying four straight lines. This is a great evidence in itself.

3)- From here now on the First Paudi of Japji sahib begins and in the end of this paudi, it is closed with a number given and by applying four lines. Damdami Taksal was founded by 10th Guru of Sikh religion– Guru Gobind Singh ji. The old hand written scriptures of Guru Granth Sahib ji were written in his guidance at Damdamaa sahib. Why did my Guru authenticate Mool Mantar up to ‘Nanak hosi bhi sach !! 1 !!’? Here EKA (ONE) is applied after the closure of this mantar and then at the closure of every Paudi by giving a number to the paudi also. Why? 4)- Shield of Guru Gobind Singh ji– which is safely preserved at Sri Hazoor Sahib, Nanded (Maharashtra-India), the Mool Mantar is written on it which is up to ‘Nanak hosi bhi sach’. See this picture :-

5)- The waistband of Guru Gobind Singh ji which is with the Maharaja of Patiala and in the Moti Bag museum, the Mool manatr is written up to ‘Nanak hosi bhi sach’ on it.

6)- The round circled weapon (Chakkar) of Baba Deep Singh ji) which is housed at Sri Akal Takht, the Mool Mantar is up to ‘Nanak hosi bhi sach’ is written on it.

7)- At the top of the entrance to Golden temple (Harmandar sahib), the Mool Mantar up to ‘Nanak hosi bhi sach’ is engraved in a golden plate. Please see this picture:-

8)- ‘SOCHE SOCH NA HOWAI' the first Paudi of Japji sahib begins from here and ends at NANAK LIKHIAA NAAL !! 1 !! It seems a minor thing to discuss but has a major value in itself. The Mool mantar was also closed at ‘!! 1 !! And then Japji Sahib starts. The first Paudi also closes with same number and for lines as ‘!! 1 !!’ It certifies the closure of Mool Mantar itself.

1)-The Mangala Charan appears in various forms as follows: It has been composed in Sri Guru Granth sahib ji by Guru ji like this :-

IK –SATNAAM GUR PARSAAD(2 times)

2)– IK ONGKAAR SATNAAM KARTAA PURAKH GUR PARSAAD !! (9 TIMES).

3)- IK ONKAAR SATNAAM KARTAA PURAKH NIRBHAO NIRVAIR AKAL MOORAT AJUNI SAI BHN GUR PARSAAD !! (33 TIMES)

4)- IK ONKAAR SATGURU PARSAAD !! (523 TIMES)

Now let us find out that Guru ji defines the qualities of Lord Akal Purakh in the beginning and then Jaap (Recitation) starts but to our amusement, to whom we have to recite ? Guru ji further explains as AADI SACH JUGAADI SACH !! HAI BHI SACH NANAK HOSI BHI SACH !! MEANS—the divine master, the current of this primeval Truth (God) has continuously been moving since before the beginning and throughout the Ages. He is verily the Truth and will continue to be the Truth for ever. The True Guru has made available (for me) the glimpse of this Truth.

To know this truth we shall have to observe and then define like this that, ‘ Guru Nanak Dev ji preaches his devotee Sikhs to recite thy true name of lord Akal Purakh Waheguru ji which has continuously present before the beginning of time, present through the ages and shall be present (true) throughout the ages. He is the only truth and let us define is true qualities as follow:-

IK-ONKAAR)- which is only one-the creator which has created this whole of the universe.

SATNAAM— Thy name is true.

KARTAA PURAKH—Who is the creator of this universe,

NIRBHAO- NIRVAIR- Which has no enemies, no enmity with any one,

AKAL MOORAT—Which is timeless and shapeless.

AJOONi—Away from carnation and death.

SAI BHN— which is unborn and self-existed, self enlightened & ocean & source of knowledge. GUR PARSAAD—By the Grace of the Guru, made known to mankind. JAAP — to recite, meditate. AADI SACH— existed before time –the true. JUGAADI SACH— throughout ages he is ever been true. HAI BHI SACH—He is always true NANAK HOSI BHI SACH— Nanak says that he shall always be true as he is beyond deaths. IK-ONKAAR SATINAAM KARTAA PURAKH NIRBHAO NIRVAIR AKAAL MOORAT AJUNI SAI BHN GUR PARSAADI !! JAP !! AADI SACH JUGAADI SACH !! HAI BHI SACH NAANAK HOSI BHI SACH !! 1 !! He is the only one existed himself and created this universe, which is the only truth, which is fearless , away from enmity, close to everyone, timeless, shapeless, omnipresent, unborn, self-existent, away from births and death, self enlightened, ocean and the source of knowledge, which can be known by the grace of the master (Guru) only. So O Man, recite that Akal Purakh and his name which was before the time (periods), he is true from ages, Guru Nanak Dev ji says that he shall always be true in future too. Thus, if we go through the meanings from “IK-ONKAR... To… Nanak hosi bhi sach !!” 1 !! We find beyond any doubt the completion of Mool Mantar and this whole Mool Mantar compiled in the beginning of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is recited once only which certifies it’s importance. Whereas different forms of Managalaachran are seen and applied at various places in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. Hence Khalsa ji the complete Mool Mantar is up to “NANAK HOSI BHI SACH !! 1 !!”

Look, in this CD , Panth Ratan Giani Sant Singh ji Maskeen also verify the Mool Manatr up to ‘NANAK HOSI BHI SACH’.
