'Good to see you up and editing. It would - i don't see the intimated thoughts of immortality on his part as i thought he was expressing the thought that he would have a hard time living up to his fame if he lived. His martyrdom, his dashing photo and daring and having a reason for the murder although he apparently killed a man innocent of the beating of Rai lets us overlook that a bit, have all added to his place in history. It is a bit like the story of David and Goliath too, he never intended to kill the gaint - the British Raj, he just wanted to see some justice and its departure.

More importantly he was careful to make sure that no one was hurt in the courtroom explosion. I saw two of the movies made on him, if i remember correctly the British did not know he was the one who shot the wrong constable and he was not charged with that murder. was the movie correct?

The guys who put the bombs off in Jaipur yesterday killing dozens and wounding hundreds more did the opposite loading their bombs with ball-bearings to kill as many as they could. It is that kind of terrorism, intentionally killing the innocent that gives Martrydom a bad name.

And what of the 2 guys from LeT who killed the soldier/s?, news photograper, the couple in their home and the running women seeking safety, as they (the terrorists) died i think they probably considered themselves Martyrs and thought of the 70+ Houris and the rivers of wine (different wine from that their religion forbade in their Heaven no doubt).

Their names, if they are ever known, will never achieve such a status, yet they too, at least their fellow 'terrorists' will aclaim them as Martyrs. Fedayeen--wonder how that word translates?

I guess they think of India as the evil Empire too and anyone else who doesn't see things their way!

Martyrdom, Jesus comes to mind as well as Guru Arjan and Guru Tegh Bahadur, where one doesn't seek to kill the innocent, even the not so innocent (Saka Nanaka where their intent was not too kill the Mahant) is another thing, if i haven't pointed it out before the gates of Arlington Cemetery where many who died in wars defending America or the Idea of Freedom have the words, Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori "It is sweet and fitting to die for one's country." from a Roman Ode.
