Seems the same problems seen today, were old back then, the techniques of today (closing masjids) also were used back then, correction were made by demanding nazaranas from the greedy administrators. But the wealth amassed by the Maharaja never made it back to the people of Kashmir.

Interesting the difference in levels of agitation out of Mosques, Gurudwaras, Deras and Mandirs then and now.
