ਅਥ ਸੀਤਾ ਹਰਨ ਕਥਨੰ ॥ अथ सीता हरन कथनं ॥ Now begins the description of the abduction of Sita :

ਮਨੋਹਰ ਛੰਦ ॥ मनोहर छंद ॥ MANOHAR STANZA

ਰਾਵਣ ਨੀਚ ਮਰੀਚ ਹੂੰ ਕੇ ਗ੝ਰਿਹ ਬੀਚ ਗਝ ਬੱਧ ਬੀਰ ਸ੝ਨੈ ਹੈ ॥ रावण नीच मरीच हूं के गढ़रिह बीच गझ बढ़ध बीर सढ़नै है ॥ Hearing about the killing of Khar and Dushan the vile Ravan went to the house of Marich.

ਬੀਸਹੂੰ ਬਾਂਹਿ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਗਹੇ ਰਿਸਿ ਨਾਰ ਮਨੈ ਦਸਸੀਸ ਧ੝ਨੈ ਹੈ ॥ बीसहूं बांहि हथिआर गहे रिसि नार मनै दससीस धढ़नै है ॥ He held his weapons in all his twenty hands and was furiously muzzling his ten heads.

ਨਾਕ ਕਟਿਯੋ ਜਿਨਿ ਸੂਪਨਖਾ ਕਹ ਤਉ ਤਿਹਕੋ ਦ੝ਖ ਦੋਖ ਲਗੈ ਹੈ ॥ नाक कटियो जिनि सूपनखा कह तउ तिहको दढ़ख दोख लगै है ॥ He said, "Those who have chopped the nose of Surapankha, their such action has agonised me;

ਰਾਵਲ ਕੋ ਬਨ੝ ਕੈ ਪਲ ਮੋ ਛਲ ਕੈ ਤਿਹ ਕੀ ਘਰਨੀ ਧਰਿ ਲਯੈ ਹੈ ॥੩੪੮॥ रावल को बनढ़ कै पल मो छल कै तिह की घरनी धरि लयै है ॥३४८॥ I shall steal their wife in the garb of a Yogi form the forest in your company."348.

ਮਰੀਚ ਬਾਚ ॥ मरीच बाच ॥ Speech of Marich :

ਮਨੋਹਰ ਛੰਦ ॥ मनोहर छंद ॥ MANOHAR STANZA

ਨਾਥ ਅਨਾਥ ਸਨਾਥ ਕੀਯੋ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਅਤਿ ਮੋਰ ਕ੝ਰਿਪਾ ਕਹ ਆਝ ॥ नाथ अनाथ सनाथ कीयो करि कै अति मोर कढ़रिपा कह आझ ॥ O my Lord ! You had been very kind to came to my place.

ਭਉਨ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਅਟੀ ਬਿਕਟੀ ਪ੝ਰਭ ਆਜ ਸਭੈ ਘਰ ਬਾਰ ਸ੝ਹਾਝ ॥ भउन भंडार अटी बिकटी पढ़रभ आज सभै घर बार सढ़हाझ ॥ My stores are overflowing on your arrival, O my Lord !

ਦ੝ਵੈ ਕਰਿ ਜੋਰ ਕਰਉ ਬਿਨਤੀ ਸ੝ਨਿਕੈ ਨ੝ਰਿਪਨਾਥ ਬ੝ਰੋ ਮਤ ਮਾਨੋ ॥ दढ़वै करि जोर करउ बिनती सढ़निकै नढ़रिपनाथ बढ़रो मत मानो ॥ But with folded hands I request and kindly do not mind,

ਸ੝ਰੀ ਰਘ੝ਬੀਰ ਸਹੀ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਤਿਨੈ ਤ੝ਮ ਮਾਨਸ ਕੈ ਨ ਪਛਾਨੋ ॥੨੪੯॥ सढ़री रघढ़बीर सही अवतार तिनै तढ़म मानस कै न पछानो ॥२४९॥ That is my supplication that Ram is in reality an incarnation, do not consider him as a man like yourself."349.

ਰੋਸ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਸਭ ਅੰਗ ਜਰਿਯੋ ਮ੝ਖ ਰੱਤ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਜ੝ਗ ਨੈਨ ਤਚਾਝ ॥ रोस भरियो सभ अंग जरियो मढ़ख ढ़रत करियो जढ़ग नैन तचाझ ॥ Hearing these words, Ravan was filled with anger and his limbs began to burn, his face turned red and his eyes expanded with anger.

ਤੈ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਹਮਰੇ ਸਠ ਬੋਲਨ ਮਾਨਸ ਦ੝ਝ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਗਨਾਝ ॥ तै न लगै हमरे सठ बोलन मानस दढ़झ अवतार गनाझ ॥ He said, "O fool ! what are you speaking before me and considering those two men as incarnations;

ਮਾਤ ਕੀ ਝਕਹੀ ਬਾਤ ਕਹੇ ਤਜਿ ਤਾਤ ਘ੝ਰਿਣਾ ਬਨਬਾਸ ਨਿਕਾਰੇ ॥ मात की झकही बात कहे तजि तात घढ़रिणा बनबास निकारे ॥ Their mother spoke only once and their father indignantly sent them to the forest;

ਤੇ ਦੋਊ ਦੀਨ ਅਧੀਨ ਜ੝ਗੀਯਾ ਕਸ ਕੈ ਭਿਰਹੈਂ ਸੰਗ ਆਨਿ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੩੫੦॥ ते दोऊ दीन अधीन जढ़गीया कस कै भिरहैं संग आनि हमारे ॥३५०॥ Both of them are lowly and helpless, how will they be able to fight against me.350.

ਜਉ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਤ ਤਹਾਂ ਕਹ ਤੈ ਸਠਿ ਤੋਰਿ ਜਟਾਨ ਕੋ ਜੂਟ ਪਟੈ ਹੌ ॥ जउ नही जात तहां कह तै सठि तोरि जटान को जूट पटै हौ ॥ O fool ! if I had not come to ask you for going there, I would have uprooted and thrown your matted hair,

ਕੰਚਨ ਕੋਟ ਕੇ ਊਪਰ ਤੇ ਡਰਿ ਤੋਹਿ ਨਦੀਸਰ ਬੀਚ ਡ੝ਬੈ ਹੌ ॥ कंचन कोट के ऊपर ते डरि तोहि नदीसर बीच डढ़बै हौ ॥ And from the top of this golden citadel I would have thrown you in the sea and get you drowned.

ਚਿੱਤ ਚਿਰਾਤ ਬਸਾਤ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਰਿਸਾਤ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਮ੝ਨਿ ਘਾਤ ਪਛਾਨੀ ॥ चिढ़त चिरात बसात कछू न रिसात चलियो मढ़नि घात पछानी ॥ Hearing these world and pining in his mind and in anger, realizing the gravity of the occasion, Marich left that place;

ਰਾਵਨ ਨੀਚ ਕੀ ਮੀਚ ਅਧੋਗਤ ਰਾਘਵ ਪਾਨਿ ਪ੝ਰੀ ਸ੝ਰਿ ਮਾਨੀ ॥੩੫੧॥ रावन नीच की मीच अधोगत राघव पानि पढ़री सढ़रि मानी ॥३५१॥ He felt that the death and decadence of the vile Ravan is certain at the hands of Ram.351.

ਕੰਚਨ ਕੋ ਹਰਨਾ ਬਨ ਕੇ ਰਘ੝ਬੀਰ ਬਲੀ ਜਹ ਥੋ ਤਹ ਆਯੋ ॥ कंचन को हरना बन के रघढ़बीर बली जह थो तह आयो ॥ He transformed himself into a golden deer and reached at the abode of Ram.

ਰਾਵਨ ਹ੝ਵੈ ਉਤ ਕੇ ਜ੝ਗੀਆ ਸੀਅ ਲੈਨ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਜਨ੝ ਮੀਚ ਚਲਾਯੋ ॥ रावन हढ़वै उत के जढ़गीआ सीअ लैन चलियो जनढ़ मीच चलायो ॥ On the other side Ravana put on the garb of a Yogi and went to abduct Sita, it seemed that death was driving him there.

ਸੀਅ ਬਿਲੋਕਿ ਕ੝ਰੰਕ ਪ੝ਰਭਾ ਕਹ ਮੋਹਿ ਰਹੀ ਪ੝ਰਭ ਤੀਰ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥ सीअ बिलोकि कढ़रंक पढ़रभा कह मोहि रही पढ़रभ तीर उचारी ॥ Seeing the beauty of the golden deer, Sita came near Ram and said :

ਆਨਿ ਦਿਜੈ ਹਮ ਕਉ ਮ੝ਰਿਗ ਵਾ ਸ੝ਨ ਸ੝ਰੀ ਅਵਧੇਸ ਮ੝ਕੰਦ ਮ੝ਰਾਰੀ ॥੩੫੨॥ आनि दिजै हम कउ मढ़रिग वा सढ़न सढ़री अवधेस मढ़कंद मढ़रारी ॥३५२॥ O the king of Oudh and the destroyer of demons ! Go and bring that deer for me."352.

ਰਾਮ ਬਾਚ ॥ राम बाच ॥ Speech of Ram :

ਸੀਅ ਮ੝ਰਿਗਾ ਕਹੂੰ ਕੰਚਨ ਕੋ ਨਹਿ ਕਾਨ ਸ੝ਨਿਯੋ ਬਿਧਿ ਨੈ ਨ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥ सीअ मढ़रिगा कहूं कंचन को नहि कान सढ़नियो बिधि नै न बनायो ॥ O Sita ! no one had heard about the golden deer and even the Lord hath not created it;

ਬੀਸ ਬਿਸਵੇ ਛਲ ਦਾਨਵ ਕੋ ਬਨ ਮੈ ਜਿਹ ਆਨਿ ਤ੝ਮੈ ਡਹਕਾਯੋ ॥ बीस बिसवे छल दानव को बन मै जिह आनि तढ़मै डहकायो ॥ This is certainly the deceit of some demon, who has caused this deception in you.

ਪਿਆਰੀ ਕੋ ਆਇਸ ਮੇਟ ਸਕੈ ਨ ਬਿਲੋਕ ਸੀਆ ਕਹ੝ ਆਤ੝ਰ ਭਾਰੀ ॥ पिआरी को आइस मेट सकै न बिलोक सीआ कहढ़ आतढ़र भारी ॥ Seeing the affliction of Sita, Ram could not put aside her wish;

ਬਾਧਿ ਨਿਖੰਗ ਚਲੇ ਕਟਿ ਸੌ ਕਹਿ ਭ੝ਰਾਤ ਈਹਾਂ ਕਰਿਜੈ ਰਖਵਾਰੀ ॥੩੫੩॥ बाधि निखंग चले कटि सौ कहि भढ़रात ईहां करिजै रखवारी ॥३५३॥ He tied his quiver and left for bringing the golden deer, leaving behind Lakshman for Sita`s protection.353.

ਓਟ ਥਕਿਯੋ ਕਰਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਨਿਸਾਚਰ ਸ੝ਰੀ ਰਘ੝ਬੀਰ ਨਿਦਾਨ ਸੰਘਾਰਿਯੋ ॥ ओट थकियो करि कोटि निसाचर सढ़री रघढ़बीर निदान संघारियो ॥ The demon Marich tried to put Ram in uncertainty by running away at a high speed, but ultimately he was tired and Ram killed him.

ਹੇ ਲਹ੝ ਬੀਰ ਉਬਾਰ ਲੈ ਮ ੋਕਹ ਯੌ ਕਹਿਕੈ ਪ੝ਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਪ੝ਕਾਰਿਯੋ ॥ हे लहढ़ बीर उबार लै म ोकह यौ कहिकै पढ़नि राम पढ़कारियो ॥ But at the time of death he shouted loudly in the voice of Ram, "O Brother, save me.

ਜਾਨਕੀ ਬੋਲ ਕ੝ਬੋਲ ਸ੝ਨਿਯੋ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਓਰ ਸ੝ਮਿੱਤ੝ਰ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥ जानकी बोल कढ़बोल सढ़नियो तब ही तिह ओर सढ़मिढ़तढ़र पठायो ॥ When Sita heard this frightening cry, she sent the mighty Lakshman to that side,

ਰੇਖ ਕਮਾਨ ਕੀ ਕਾਢਿ ਮਹਾਬਲ ਜਾਤ ਭਝ ਇਤ ਰਾਵਨ ਆਯੋ ॥੩੫੪॥ रेख कमान की काढि महाबल जात भझ इत रावन आयो ॥३५४॥ Who before leaving drew a line there and then Ravana came in.354.

ਭੇਖ ਅਲੇਖ ਉਚਾਰ ਕੈ ਰਾਵਣ ਜਾਤ ਭਝ ਸੀਅ ਕੇ ਢਿਗ ਯੌ ॥ भेख अलेख उचार कै रावण जात भझ सीअ के ढिग यौ ॥ Wearing the garb of a Yogi and uttering the traditional invocation for alms, Ravan went near Sita,

ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਧਨੀ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਬਡੋ ਤਿਹ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਗ ਮੋ ਠਗ ਜਿਯੋ ॥ अविलोकि धनी धनवान बडो तिह जाइ मिलै मग मो ठग जियो ॥ Like a thug visiting a wealthy person and said,

ਕਛ੝ ਦੇਹ੝ ਭਿਛਾ ਮ੝ਰਿਗ ਨੈਨਿ ਹਮੈ ਇਹ ਰੇਖ ਮਿਟਾਇ ਹਮੈ ਅਬ ਹੀ ॥ कछढ़ देहढ़ भिछा मढ़रिग नैनि हमै इह रेख मिटाइ हमै अब ही ॥ O doe-eyed, cross this line and give me some alms,

ਬਿਨ੝ ਰੇਖ ਭਈ ਅਵਿਲੋਕ ਲਈ ਹਰਿ ਸੀਅ ਉਡਿਯੋ ਨਭਿ ਕਉ ਤਬ ਹੀ ॥੩੫੫॥ बिनढ़ रेख भई अविलोक लई हरि सीअ उडियो नभि कउ तब ही ॥३५५॥ And when Ravan saw Sita crossing the line, he seized her and began to fly towards the sky.355.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੝ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੝ਰ ਨਾਟਕ ਰਾਮ ਵਤਾਰ ਕਥਾ ਸੀਤਾ ਹਰਨ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ॥ इति सढ़री बचितढ़र नाटक राम वतार कथा सीता हरन धिआइ समापतम ॥ End of the chapter entitled `Abduction of Sita` in Ramavtar in BACHITTAR NATAK.
