Pandit Chattar Das

Pandit Chattar das was a priest lives in Benaras. When guru nanak reached kashi or benaras he sat by the bank of the river. Pandit Chattar das saw guru sitting he came and stopped.

He asked that guru nanak was sitting just like that and looking like a sadhu. Guru Nanak even didnt has a saligram or other idol before him. Even no garlend of tulsi beads was around his neck and even he was not doing worship then also he appeared him sadu. he said guru nanak that You should learn idol worship to become a sadhu.

THe Gist of what the guru said is: Idol Worship is not good. I worship the lord who is formless. You also worship the lord but besides that keep away from evil deeds. then Fill your mind with nector. That Nector is of lords name.

In this way there was a long discussion. Finally the pandit touched guru's feet and became his disciple. Learned people sat that the thoughts expressed in th dialouge known as dakhni onkar in ramkali raga. The guru Command Pandit to repeat the lines again tyhat fill your mind with nector that nector is the lord's name.
