The first four verses (ayat) of Al-Alaq', the 96th chapter (surah) of the Qur'an:
Read in the name of thy LORD who created.
Created man from a mere clot of blood.
Read and your LORD is the most generous.
The one who taught (them to write) by the pen.
Taught man what he knew not'

The Qur'an, literally "the recitation"; also called Quran, Koran, and Al-Quran), is the central religious text of Islam. Muslims believe the Qur'an, in its original Arabic, to be the literal word of Allah (God) that was revealed to Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullĝh (also Muhammed or Mohammed) the founder of the religion of Islam, who is regarded by Muslims as a messenger and prophet of God. They consider him to be the last (Qur'an 33:40–40) in a series of earlier prophets (who were long revered by the monotheistic faiths of the Jews and Christians).

Muslims consider him to be the restorer of the uncorrupted original monotheistic faith (islĝm) of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and other prophets. The Muslims use the Arabic word for God (Allah) that had been used by Arab Christians, across the Middle East, for hundreds of years before Muhammad's birth. Followers of Islam believe that the Qur’an was memorized, recited and written down by Muhammad's companions (Sahaba - people who actually had contact with Muhammad) after every revelation that was dictated by Muhammad. Most of Muhammad's companions, and tens of thousands of early converts to Islam, learned the Qur’an by heart, repeatedly recited in front of Muhammad for his approval or the approval of other Sahaba. Many believe that Muhammad approved and also compiled the Qur'an in written form while he was alive.

However, Muslim tradition agrees that although the Qur’an was memorized completely by tens of thousands who passed it orally, that it was first recorded in written (book) form shortly after Muhammad's death by order of the first Caliph Abu Bakr as suggested by his successor Umar.

The Qur'anic verses were originally memorised by Muhammad's companions as Muhammad spoke them, with some being written down by one or more companions on whatever was at hand, from stones to pieces of bark. Compilations of the Qur'an began under the Caliph Umar, but it was Uthman who decided upon a definitive copy and destroyed all other versions that had resulted from the differences of pronunciation of the words, memory and other reasons.

Gurbani does not believe that God has directly written some text and given it to some human being, it believes that God spoke to his Devotees and these Devotees have written what god has said. The written form is called the "Akhar", revelation is called "Bani". Guru Arjun said, "Dhur ki Bani Ayi" (the word came from Sachkhand). It is written in world knowing form. The Bani that came from Sachkhand is Called Gurbani, in real. The present Scripture of Sikhs contains words which were composed by Gurus in a way that people could understand.

What was that time, and what was that moment? What was that day, and what was that date?
What was that season, and what was that month, when the Universe was created?
The Pandits, the religious scholars, cannot find that time, even if it is written in the Puraanas.
That time is not known to the Qazis, who study the Koran.
