Gurudwara Gurusar Pakka Sahib Patshahi Nauvin

Gurdwara Gurusar Pakka Sahib Patshahi Nauvin is a magnificiant shrine situated in the village of Handiyaya, 6 km southwest of Barnala on Bhatinda-Sangrur road.

History

Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji came to village Handiyaya in the year 1665 A.D and rested under a grove near a pond. A person came and told Guru Ji about a mysterious disease rampant in the area. Guru Ji advised him to have the patient bathed in the pond. The person told Guru Ji that the Chamars (tanners) used the pond to dip their hides in. Guru Ji asked them to ignore their prejudices and bathe in the pond.

The villagers still hesitated saying that the water of the pond was foul. At that the Guru himself then bathed in the pond. After that the villagers brought a man with the mysterous disease and bathed him in the pond. The sick man suddenly felt relieved and cured. Later all the sick villagers bathed in the pond and were cured. The villagers served Guru Ji gratefully with devotion during His stay.

Now a sarovar has been built at the place of pond.

Large gathering takes place on Shahidi Divas of Guru Arjan Dev Ji and Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. In addition Shahidi Divas, Amavasya celebration of every month and an annual religious fair is held during the month of January/ February.

Gurdwara Gurusar Pakka Sahib Patshahi Nauvin is situated in the village of Handiyaya, 6 km southwest of Barnala on Bhatinda-Sangrur road. It is 7 km. from Bhatinda.
Accommodation: There are 4-5 rooms with limited facilities in the Gurdwara premises for pilgrims to stay.
