Faqir Dargahi Shah, a disciple of Guru Tegh Bahadur, learned that Guru Tegh Bahadur had been executed in Delhi, when Bhai Jaita (who had managed to spirit the severed head of the Guru away from the Mughals after his execution) stopped to rest at Nabha Sahib during his long journey to return the Guru's head to his son onto whom the mantle of Guruship had now passed; Guru Gobind Singh. Soon the people of the area learned of the execution and of Bhai Jaita's rescue of the Guru's head, as the word spread that the head of Tegh Bahadur was in transit to Anandpur Sahib the people rushed to pay their last respects to the Guru.

Faqir Dargahi Shah, who was too old and sick to travel to Anandpur Sahib, sent a message through Bhai Jaita to Guru Gobind Singh with a request to visit him. So after the battle of Bhangani, Guru Gobind Singh visited Nabha Sahib in 1698, where after first paying homage to his father, he met Faqir Dargahi Shah, who left his mortal frame soon after. The samadh of the faqir in the vicinity of the shrine to Guru Tegh Bahadur, is also visited by devotees, who pay homage to him for his divine association with Guru Tegh Bahadur.

Later, in 1709, Banda Bahadur halted here to pay homage to guru Tegh Bahadur and Faqir Dargahi Shah. From here, he advanced towards Sirhind.
