ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ 5 ॥

ਸਰਬ ਸ੝ਖਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰ੝ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਨੀ ਪਾਈਝ ॥ ਦਰਸਨ੝ ਭੇਟਤ ਹੋਤ ਅਨੰਦਾ ਦੂਖ੝ ਗਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈਝ ॥1॥

ਹਰਿ ਰਸ੝ ਪੀਵਹ੝ ਭਾਈ ॥ ਨਾਮ੝ ਜਪਹ੝ ਨਾਮੋ ਆਰਾਧਹ੝ ਗ੝ਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਤਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਜਿਸ੝ ਧ੝ਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋਈ ਪੂਰਨ੝ ਭਾਈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਪ੝ਰਭ ਜੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥2॥25॥89॥

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਦਾਤਾ-ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ। ਤਾ ਕੀ-ਉਸ (ਗ੝ਰੂ) ਦੀ। ਭੇਟਤ-ਮਿਲਦਿਆਂ। ਗਾਈਝ-ਗਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਭਾਈ-ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਮੋ-ਨਾਮ ਹੀ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਤਿਸਹਿ-ਤਿਸ੝ ਹੀ, ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ {ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਤਿਸ੝' ਦਾ ੝ ਕ੝ਰਿਆ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਣ 'ਹਿ' ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਉੱਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ}। ਧ੝ਰਿ-ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ। ਪ੝ਰਭ-ਹੇ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ! ਨਾਮਿ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ। ਰਹਾ-ਰਹਾਂ। ਲਿਵ-ਲਗਨ।੨।

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪੂਰੇ ਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰੋ, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰੋ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੝ਰਿਤ ਪੀਂਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰੋ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗ੝ਰੂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ੝ਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ (ਗ੝ਰੂ) ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗ੝ਰੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੝ਰਾਪਤ ਹ੝ੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਦ੝ੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।੧।

ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਉਸ ਮਨ੝ੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਪ੝ਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਿਖੀ ਹ੝ੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਨ੝ੱਖ ਸਾਰੇ ਗ੝ਣਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! (ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ) ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ (ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਇਹ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਹੈ-ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸ੝ਰਤਿ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਾਂ।੨।੨੫।੮੯।

sarab sukhaa kaa dhaathaa sathigur thaa kee saranee paaeeai || dharasan bhaettath hoth ana(n)dhaa dhookh gaeiaa har gaaeeai ||1||

har ras peevahu bhaaee || naam japahu naamo aaraadhhahu gur poorae kee saranaaee || rehaao ||

thisehi paraapath jis dhhur likhiaa soee pooran bhaaee || naanak kee baena(n)thee prabh jee naam rehaa liv laaee ||2||25||89||

Sorat'h, Fifth Mehla:

The True Guru is the Giver of all peace and comfort - seek His Sanctuary. Beholding the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, bliss ensues, pain is dispelled, and one sings the Lord's Praises. ||1||

Drink in the sublime essence of the Lord, O Siblings of Destiny. Chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord; worship the Naam in adoration, and enter the Sanctuary of the Perfect Guru. ||Pause||

Only one who has such pre-ordained destiny receives it; he alone becomes perfect, O Siblings of Destiny. Nanak's prayer, O Dear God, is to remain lovingly absorbed in the Naam. ||2||25||89||
