ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥

ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਰੇ ਚਿਤ੝ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਮ੝ ਪਦਾਰਥ੝ ਪਾਈਝ ਅਚਿੰਤ੝ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦ੝ਖ੝ ਕਟੀਝ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਉਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਈਝ ਸਚੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰ੝ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ॥੧॥

ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਾ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਹੈ ਕਲਿਜ੝ਗ ਬੋਹਿਥ੝ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਗ੝ਰਮ੝ਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸ੝ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਵੈ ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥ ਨਾਮ੝ ਸਮ੝ਹ੝ਹਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ੝ ਸੰਗ੝ਰਹੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰ੝ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥

ਆਪੇ ਪਾਰਸ੝ ਆਪਿ ਧਾਤ੝ ਹੈ ਆਪਿ ਕੀਤੋਨ੝ ਕੰਚਨ੝ ॥ ਆਪੇ ਠਾਕ੝ਰ੝ ਸੇਵਕ੝ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਖੰਡਨ੝ ॥ ਆਪੇ ਸਭਿ ਘਟ ਭੋਗਵੈ ਸ੝ਆਮੀ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਸਭ੝ ਅੰਜਨ੝ ॥ ਆਪਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ੝ ਆਪਿ ਸਭ੝ ਬੇਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਗ੝ਰਮ੝ਖਿ ਭੰਜਨ੝ ॥ ਜਨ੝ ਨਾਨਕ੝ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਨ ਰਜੈ ਤ੝ਧ੝ ਕਰਤੇ ਤੂ ਹਰਿ ਸ੝ਖਦਾਤਾ ਵਡਨ੝ ॥੧੦॥

Salok, Third Mehla:

Fruitful is service to the True Guru, if one does so with a sincere mind. The treasure of the Naam, is obtained, and the mind comes to be free of anxiety. The pains of birth and death are eradicated, and the mind is rid of egotism and self-conceit. One achieves the ultimate state, and remains absorbed in the True Lord. O Nanak, the True Guru comes and meets those who have such pre-ordained destiny. ||1||

Third Mehla:

The True Guru is imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord; He is the boat in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga. One who becomes Gurmukh crosses over; the True Lord dwells within him. He remembers the Naam, he gathers in the Naam, and he obtains honor through the Naam. Nanak has found the True Guru; by His Grace, the Name is obtained. ||2||

Pauree:

He Himself is the Philosopher's Stone, He Himself is the metal, and He Himself is transformed into gold. He Himself is the Lord and Master, He Himself is the servant, and He Himself is the Destroyer of sins. He Himself enjoys every heart; the Lord Master Himself is the basis of all illusion. He Himself is the discerning one, and He Himself is the Knower of all; He Himself breaks the bonds of the Gurmukhs. Servant Nanak is not satisfied by merely praising You, O Creator Lord; You are the Great Giver of peace. ||10||

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਪਦਾਰਥ੝—ਧਨ। ਅਚਿੰਤ੝—ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ। ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦ੝ਖ੝—ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ ਦ੝ੱਖ, ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ ਦ੝ੱਖ ਹੈ। ਉਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ—ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਝ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਾ ਰ੝ਤਬਾ। ਪੂਰਬਿ—ਮ੝ਢ ਤੋਂ।

ਅਰਥ: ਜੇ ਮਨ੝ੱਖ ਮਨ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੀ (ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ) ਕਾਰ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸੇਵਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਫਲ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ-ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ (ਪ੝ਰਭੂ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ ਦ੝ੱਖ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਵੱਡਾ ਰ੝ਤਬਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨ੝ੱਖ ਸੱਚੇ ਹਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

(ਪਰ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਦਾ ਲੱਭਣਾ ਕੋਈ ਸ੝ਖੱਲੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ); ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮ੝ੱਢ ਤੋਂ (ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਝ ਚੰਗੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਅਨ੝ਸਾਰ) ਜਿਨ੝ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਚੰਗੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ) ਉੱਕਰੇ ਹੋਝ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹੀ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ)।੧।

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਜ੝ਗ—ਸਮਾ, ਜੀਵਨ। ਕਲਿ—ਝਗੜੇ, ਕਲੇਸ਼। ਕਲਿਜ੝ਗ—ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ—ਸਮਾ ਜੋ ਝਗੜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦਾ ਸਮਾ ("ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਮਿਲਤੇ ਤਾ ਕਲਿਜ੝ਗ੝ ਹੋਤਾ")। ਪਤਿ—ਇੱਜ਼ਤ।

ਅਰਥ: ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ (ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਭਿੱਜਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹ੝ੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਲਿਜ੝ਗ (ਦੇ ਜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਰਨ) ਲਈ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ; (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਂਭਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ) ਆਦਰ ਭੀ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹ੝ੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਦਾ ਪਾਤ੝ਰ ਬਣਿਆਂ ਹੀ) ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪ੝ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹ੝ੰਦੀ ਹੈ।੨।

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਪਾਰਸ੝—ਉਹ ਪੱਥਰ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਛੋਹਿਆਂ ਧਾਤਾਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣਦੀਆਂ ਦੱਸੀਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਕੰਚਨ੝—ਸੋਨਾ। ਖੰਡਨ੝—ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ। ਘਟ—ਸਰੀਰ। ਅੰਜਨ੝—ਕਾਲਖ, ਸ੝ਰਮਾ, ਮਾਇਆ। ਬਿਬੇਕ੝—ਪਰਖ, ਪਛਾਣ, ਗਿਆਨ। ਬੇਤਾ—ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ। ਭੰਜਨ੝—ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ।

ਅਰਥ: ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਸ੝ਆਮੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪਾਰਸ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਲੋਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਉਸ ਤੋਂ) ਸੋਨਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਠਾਕ੝ਰ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਕ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਰੇ ਸਰੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਭੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ; ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਿਬੇਕ (ਭਾਵ, ਗਿਆਨ) ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ (ਬਿਬੇਕ) ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮ੝ਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ) ਤੋੜਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।

ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਰੱਜਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ (ਭਾਵ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਕੇਹੜੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਕਰਾਂ?), ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਸ੝ਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਹੈਂ।੧੦।
