Bhai Nihala

Bhai Nihala, a Sabharval Khatri of Patna, was a devoted Sikh of the time of Guru Hargobind. He was, besides being an eloquent expounder of gurbani, a brave soldier. He had fallen fighting in the battle of Amritsar in 1629. The name occurs in Bhai Gurdas, Varan, XI. 31

Bhai Nihala, was one of the writers serving Guru Gobind Singh from 1666-1708. He copied manuscripts including a large portion of Charitropdkhydn.

The Anandpur manuscript of the Dasam Granth carries his name on the margin of folio 244 as "lekhak (scribe) Nihala."

Bhai Navala, his brother was also a devoted Sikh who while in command of a platoon during the battle of Amritsar, was assigned the task of evacuating the Guru's family to Goindval via Jhabal.

Nihala died in action the following day.
