NISHAAN SAHIB
Bhai Sahib ji, WKWF

Should we bow down before NISHAAN SAHIB? The short answer is no. The Sikh only bows to the shabad Guru, the essence of Waheguru and nothing else. However we respect everyone and live in humility and humbleness and if one shows respect to the Nishan as it reminds them of the Guru and hence Guru Shabad then who are we to discourage this.

Some people pay respects to material things belonging to the Guru as it connects them to the Guru and so to the Shabad Guru - the word or command of the Guru. The important thing is the shabad - the meaning in the words of Gurbani. We show deep respect and follow the words of the Guru - That is what we promise to do when we bow to the Guru. "Waheguru, I accept your words and your hukam". However, if we do not follow the shabad then the bowing is in vain; it is wasted. So as long as you learn and dwell on the words of the Guru then bow to whatever connects you to this word; that is the real meaning of bowing in Sikhi - bowing and accepting the shabad.

Waheguru, mahar karan, may we learn and absorb the real meaning of Gurbani and follow Gurmat. Kind regards, Hari Singhtalk 23:50, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Veer ji,

Many thanks to you and S Mandeep Singh ji. I am only the delivery-man; the message I hope is as sent by the Guru through Gurbani. Please continue to spread the beautiful message of the tall, tall Guru who dwarfs us all; but with such an able leader, I don't think we can go wrong provide we continue to practise Gurmat as did the Sikhs like Baba Deep Singh, etc. May he give us the strength and vision to stay on his path.

I am most grateful for the reminder; I will update the active user list in 2 or 3 days. Veer ji, Many thanks for your kind words; everyone in the family is very well by the grace of Guru Nanak; may his nadar prevail at all times. I hope the same applies to all your family. == Need to bring to the attention of parents of young Sikh brides in India ==

Many thanks for your contribution on this topic but I think (and believe) that the definition is not strictly correct according to Gurbani and in particular G11. Doesn't this Shabad give a definition of a Sikh - Maharaj says:
Dear Sarbjeet Singh ji, WKWF

The mention of Kesh is not there. I wonder where it in Gurbani it says that a Sikh MUST have Kesh and that without Kesh the person cannot be a Sikhs?
Thanks for asking, with Guru's bakshish everything is keeping well here in the UK. Raab Rakha, Hari Singhtalk 11:31, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Also, until 1699, it appears that there was no requirement for Sikhs to don a Turban and I wonder if all Sikhs kept their hair? Personally, I believe not. Also many Muslims were engaged in the Guru service but they remained Muslims - and there must have been many who followed the Gurus, but had not yet become "full" Sikhs - Surely here the word Sehajdhari applies and then they may don hair and turban and be called Keshdhari without actually taking Amrit.
NRI luutaray!
I accept that after 1699, the requirement changed but only for the Khalsa. Some say that various famous Sikhs did not become Khalsa - ie? Bhai Nand Lal ji, Bhai Kanhaiya ji, etc. To me the word Keshdhari is relevant but it does not make the other word like Sehajdhari, Amritdhari, etc redundant.
Veer ji, WKWF

Punjab Sikhs
This initiative by S. Balwant Singh Ramoowalia seems very good but I have a feeling this will take a long time - What I have in mind was a site like Wikileaks - which is a database of wrongs hidden away by governments and large organisation - we need to setup a NRI abusers database so that all the girls who have had a bad experience can submit the picture and details of the abuser.
WaKaFa!
Is this OK ?. I plan developing J & K Sikhs as a template with the hope that volunteers from other states will join in in future & we will get a broad idea about the qulity & quantiti of TRUE Sikhi. in India. We may even quantify, compare & publish the Sikhi index state & country wise ete . Similar exercise may catch on where in Sikhs from other countries pick up the string & flawlessly knit the Khalsa Web the word over. Dear Sarbjeet Singh ji
Veer ji, WKWF
WaKaFa! thanks for your interest & staying with the site. I am a girl and writer by Profession , Located in Delhi .I write on SikhiWiki as Gurbani expects us to  do GurSeva (Seva of  SatGurBani).

As I can appreciate from spirit of your letter that God ( Nanak prefers to refer to  God as 'TRUTH god'  because true  Name of GOD is 'TRUTH'. i. e. SatNaam as is written in the beginning of Mool Mantar. ) has blessed you with the intellect to read written on your heart.
Many thanks for the reply and for your kindness in asking about the family. With Guru's kind kirpa all is well and it is our ardas that Waheguru will continue to bless us with his nadar. I hope, veer ji that you and your family too are keeping in good health and in chardikala; also that the trip to Himachal went well.
SatGurBani was not written by our gurus. It is already written on every body's heart. Gurus just copied it on paper for us to get guided for reading it from our heart ( they sacrificed themself for doing this) .

A Sikh is called a TRUE Sikh. only when he learns to read Gurbani from his / her heart . Gurbani is GOD's language written on every one's heart. By repeatedly listening to, speaking / singing ,& pondering over the meaning  one becomes fluent in understanding the TRUE meaning conveyed by it. This is TRUE Sikhi..
I am very grateful for your continuous help at Sikhwiki and it is my wish that together we are making a few more people in this vast world learn about the beautiful message of the Gurus. Warm regards and best wishes, Hari Singhtalk 20:38, 28 June 2011 (EDT)

As a new guest to the house needs  guidance about the lay out of the rooms, location of switches  etc, please permit me to give you a broad lay out of our house called Sikhi . Better still, we need to treat  this web site not as a mere Web Site but  a Gurdwara. It is an IT age Gurdwara.  I love to call this Gurdwara it self as Sikhi by hiding its 'Wiki' part of the name from the readers but not from the Server . Here are a few points about Sikhi (layout ) of  Sikhi( this Gurdwara)

all pages on Sikhi are organised in pairs as under:-
Veer ji
*1.Article Pages  The  page which carries the articles being written by users. the name of the page becomes the Name of the page itself . Here we need to ensure that a correct name is given.
*2. Talk Pages  On these pages other  users write their comments on the Article.
Every user owns a pair of  two pages as under :-
*1. Your Personal Page :  This is a personal page and every  user is expected to introduse himself to all the other users about his name interests etc like I have done on this page of mine. This is  Your Personal Page. You can write about yourself  some thing like you write in your bio-data submitted for applying for a job etc. Do not give any telephone Nos. It will helps other users of similar interests  to communicate with you through email.
*2. Your User Talk Page: This is your letter Box where users will write messages for you like I am writing this Text Now
I have moved your letter written to me on my This User Talk Page.
Two articles initiated by you  titled  'Nanak in J & K' and 'J & K Sikhs' have been  named that way  on two different Article Pages. From now on,  I plan working with you as a team on J & K Sikhs Page. Need to bring to the attention of parents of young Sikh brides in India

I have come across a Sikh boy in the UK who has been married twice and is divorcing for the second time and has already lined up a new bride in India. I have been involved in trying to assist the second girl but the boy and his family are not interested in negotiation or any compromise. Can you help in setting up this database?

The database should hold the pictures of the boy and/or his family - say up to 5 images in jpeg or other format; fields for his first name, surname and location details consisting of Town, County/District and Country; age and summary text field of 1000-5000 characters. Any help in setting up this would be most welcomed. Many thanks, Hari Singhtalk 23:02, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Database creation

Veer ji, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

Many thanks for your kind response; hope you had an excellent trip and that all are keeping in chardikala. Please let us have a glimpse of some of the Gurdwara picture and historical significance of some of these Gurdwaras when you get some free time.

Also, please let me know if you think it will be feasible to create a database or a controlled forum as mentioned in my previous message so that some of these marital and domestic problems can be highlighted and discussed; it would help a lot of people who are left in a very difficult situation.

Thanks for asking, with Guru's bakshish everything is keeping well here in the UK. Raab Rakha, Hari Singhtalk 11:31, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

NRI luutaray!

Veer ji, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

I am sorry I did not reply earlier; I had seen your reply and the long quote and wanted to read this in full before replying - Sorry Veer ji for not dealing with this immediately.

What do you think? Do you think this will work? Guru fateh, Hari Singhtalk 19:18, 30 July 2010 (EDT)

Duplicate article

Veer ji,

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

Just noticed the article Narender Singh Kapany that you created - Veer ji, this may be a duplication of Dr. Narinder Singh Kapany? It may be worth merging the two into one article. Many thanks and warm regards, Hari Singhtalk 19:27, 19 June 2011 (EDT)

Veer ji, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

Many thanks for the reply and for your kindness in asking about the family. With Guru's kind kirpa all is well and it is our ardas that Waheguru will continue to bless us with his nadar. I hope, veer ji that you and your family too are keeping in good health and in chardikala; also that the trip to Himachal went well.

I am very grateful for your continuous help at Sikhwiki and it is my wish that together we are making a few more people in this vast world learn about the beautiful message of the Gurus. Warm regards and best wishes, Hari Singhtalk 20:38, 28 June 2011 (EDT)

Contact meeting in India

Veer ji

Many thanks for your kind words. It was great to chat on the telephone. Many thanks for trying to contact Bhai sahib. I have now made contact with Lucky ji and hopefully we may be able to meet in the next day or so.

I am sorry I did not let you know of my plans earlier. I will remember in future to contact you before so that we can have a contact meeting in Punjab.

Kind regards, Hari Singhtalk 12:24, 22 November 2011 (CST)
