Under Cons...

Hindu term is not acknowledged in Holy Books of Sikhs.
Adi Guru Granth Sahib guides -

  • Who is a real Muslim?
  • Who is a real Vaishnav?
  • Who is a real Vedi?
  • Who is a real Bairagi?
  • Who is a real Yogi?
  • Who is a real sanyasi?
  • Who is a Real Pundit?
  • Who is real Brahmana?

but there is nothing written who is a Real Hindu, because Hindu is not a religious term but are refereed to set of Thoughts who are followers of Temporal things like Human, Idol, Sun, Moon etc.

Early religion was Vedic religion which means Gyana Dharma or Adi Dharma.

Differences due to Origins

Hindu - Origins in Central Asia

Apparently, the word "Hindu" is not present in Vedas, Puranas, Ramayana and Mahabharta.

Sikhs are not against Vedas/Puranas as directed by Bhagat Kabir

It appears that this name was given to the indigenous people of India by the Muslim invaders. They referred to the people living near the Sindhu River, as Hindus and they consider them as slaves, subservient and blind. The name given to the religion which preceded the modern term "Hindu" was "Sanatan" religion and before that it was known as "Ad-Dharm". Hindu is not a Sanskrit term.

Furthermore, a Persian dictionary titled Lughet-e-Kishwari, published in Lucknow in 1964, gives the meaning of the word Hindu as “chor [thief], dakoo [dacoit], raahzan [waylayer], and ghulam [slave].”

In another dictionary, Urdu-Feroze-ul-Laghat (Part One, p. 615) the Persian meaning of the word Hindu is further described as barda (obedient servant), sia faam (black color) and kaalaa (black).

So these are all derogatory expressions for the translation of the term hindu in the Persian label of the people of India.

This is the main Reason Sikhs do not accept the term.

Hindu - Geographical Term not Religious

A prevalent thought through out Indian Hindus is that , HIndu is curropted form of Sindhu. As Sindhu word was first mentioned in the Rig Veda, was the historic local appellation for the Indus River in the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent. So Hindus reffered Hindu term to to an identity associated with the philosophical, religious and cultural systems that are indigenous to the Indian subcontinent.

This tells that Hindu is not basically a Religious term and there is no religion called Hinduism or Hindu.

An Arya Scholar, Pundit Mahendra Pal Arya commented that if Hindu is curropted form of Sindhu used by Persians then they should curropt all letters start by "S", but they can speak all letters properly more over he spoke out that Rama is not considered as Hindu but called as Arya Putar, neither Krishna Shiva, Vishnu or Brahma.

As the origin of word itself is not Indigenous to Indian Subcontinent so It is prefered to use word Bharat or Bharatiya.

Philosphical Differences

As there is no religion called Hinduism so philosphical different present in all Matt and Panth present in Hindu thought which include Yog Matt, Bairag Matt, Vaishnav Matt, Shaiva Matt, Sakat Matt etc.
