I can only assume the family by the differing names, husband and wife, are Sikhs. Perhaps the Officer is, as well? I do not know for sure as he could be a Rajput. I hope that there is something more than this being a case of power going to this officer's head as the reporter suggests.

I wonder why his examination wasn't done before he was taken for booking at the police station. Hopefully the examination is to see what caused such an accident. Here alcohol, lack of sleep and or age (several older people have had heart attacks, strokes or slipped their foot off a pedal or stepped hard on the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal in several recent cases where many people were killed.
