Talk:Gurudongmar Lake

SSA, Thanks for the story Sarbjeet - a few question the article raised in my mind:

Did Guru Nanak and Guru Rinpoche travel together or at separate times.? If i had to guess i would say you have been there and seen the green and the tanks
if you have, details of the tanks and the special equipement used to allow their use at the altitude their inclusion would add depth to the story.

i used to live in illinois, the southern part, where in the winter i had to have a dip stick heater in the car so the oil wouldn't freeze-it only got down to -15F there. in russia in wwii the germans and russians had to light fires under the engines so they would start.

Guru nanak would have known of the 'persian water wheels and aquaducts' how could they have helped the villagers? to bring running water to their villages, or irrigate their fields, can crops be grown there? why do people live their, ect? My mind wants to see the light, to feel the cold on my feet as the Guru did, do pilgrims bath trere or go to dip a handful of the water.
Reminds me of Shah Rukh Khan who with his NRI / NASA engineering savy brought electricity by piping the hill side and daming the creek, etc. to the village in Swades.Allenwalla 09:39, 8 November 2007 (MST)

and what is the -dongmar part of the name?

Allenwalla ji,

Actually the article is written by Harpreet Singh (click page history).I have not visited Sikkim state but the environment, climate and high altitude of the said place have similarties with Ladakh which i have visited many times. I think the reason behind the tanks is that being a border state army has installed them for security reasons.just like Ladakh you will see army and tanks in every corner and at every height. Dongmar's meaning is that in punjabi 'Dong' is a wooden long stick while 'mar' is to beat someone. Since the lake was located by Baba Nanak by beating a stick to the earth it is called Gurudongmar lake.
