Angg 368: Why waste time on dancing and related singing/music etc ?

• ਕਿਉਂ ਕੋਈ ਤਾਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਘੁੰਘਰੂ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਫਿਰੇ? (ਭਾਵ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਘੁੰਘਰੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ), ਕਿਉਂ ਕੋਈ ਰਬਾਬ (ਆਦਿਕ ਸਾਜ) ਵਜਾਂਦਾ ਫਿਰੇ? (ਇਹ ਘੁੰਘਰੂ ਰਬਾਬ ਆਦਿਕ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਆਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਜਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਕੁਝ ਨ ਕੁਝ ਸਮਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ।

• ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਤਨਾ ਸਮਾ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ ।1।

• ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਬਣੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਪਲ ਭੀ ਰਹਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਜਾਪਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜ ਕੇ ਮੱਛੀ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।1।ਰਹਾਉ।

• ਗਾਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕਿਉਂ ਕੋਈ ਪੰਜ ਤਾਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਸੱਤ ਸੁਰਾਂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਾ ਫਿਰੇ? ਕਿਉਂ ਕੋਈ ਰਾਗ ਦੀ ਸੁਰ ਚੁੱਕਦਾ ਫਿਰੇ? ਇਹ ਤਾਰਾਂ ਸੁਰਾਂ ਮਿਲਾਂਦਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਸੁਰ ਚੁੱਕਦਿਆਂ ਕੁਝ ਨ ਕੁਝ ਸਮਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ । ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤਾਂ ਉਤਨਾ ਸਮਾ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੇਗਾ ।2।

• ਕਿਉਂ ਕੋਈ ਨੱਚਦਾ ਫਿਰੇ? (ਨੱਚਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕਿਉਂ ਕੋਈ ਪੈਰ ਖਿਲਾਰੇ? ਕਿਉਂ ਕੋਈ ਹੱਥ ਖਿਲਾਰੇ? (why waste time on dancing and related singing/music etc ?) ਇਹਨਾਂ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਿਲਾਰਦਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਥੋੜਾ-ਬਹੁਤ ਸਮਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ । ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤਾਂ ਉਤਨਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਭੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੇਗਾ ।3।

• (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਭਗਤ ਜ਼ਾਹਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕਿਉਂ ਕੋਈ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨ ਦਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਫਿਰੇ? ਜੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਸੱਲੀ ਹੋ ਭੀ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲੇਗੀ ।

• ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਆਦਰ-ਸਤਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।4।10।62।

Angg 381: Gursikh dances to the tune of Gurbani deep within his self

• ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਇਸ਼ਟ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਨਾਚ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, Hindu worshipers dance in front of the idols of their deities.

• (ਪਰ) ਤੇਰਾ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹ, ਮਾਨੋ) ਉਹ ਨਾਚ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। However, your Sikh sings your praises, as if he is dancing.

• ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰਾ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ-ਰੂਪ ਵਾਜਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਵਜਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ) ਇਹੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਰਬਾਬ ਤਬਲਾ ਛੈਣੇ ਘੁੰਘਰੂ (ਆਦਿਕ ਸਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੱਜਣਾ) ।1।ਰਹਾਉ। O Lord! your Sikh continuously sings and plays deep within himself, the musical instruments of Gurbani. For him, this is what is playing of all the musical instruments like strings, drums and strapped dancing bells etc.

• (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਭਗਤ ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ) ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ) ਨਾਚ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ । Progressively as a Sikh puts in efforts to sing Lord TRUTH's praises, his mind becomes pure and he sheds his ego. This is as if he is dancing in front of Lord TRUTH(the way Hindus dance in front of the idols of their deities).

• (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਵਸਾਈ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਹ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।1। A TRUE Sikh always hosts Lord TRUTH deep within himself. This way he rules over the five vices( sex, anger, greed, attachment and ego).

• ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਇਕ ਐਸਾ ਨਾਚ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਦਕ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । O Nanak! Praises of Lord TRUTH is such a dance that who so ever listens to and watches it, becomes free of the endless cycle of 'death and rebirth'.

• ਅਜੇਹਾ ਨਾਚ ( ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਨਰਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਨਾਚ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ (ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਤੋਂ) ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।4।4।43। Such a 'TRUE Dance Form' saves your Sikh from all miseries. Thus, courtesy this TRUE dance form, he wakes up from the sleep of attachment.

Angg 412: Self realized humans need no dancing and dance related music and singing etc

• ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਲਏ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਜੇਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਬਿਨਾ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਵਜਾਏ ਵਾਜਾ ਵੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਪੈਰੀਂ ਨੱਚਿਆਂ ਤਾਲ ਪੂਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ । One who understands the spirit of Gurbani, meets Lord TRUTH within his own self. He achieves such a self realized mental state that he neither needs dancing nor dance related music, singing etc.

• ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਰੱਖਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਸੁਖ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।7। One who is blessed and saved from the 'lust of wealth' by Lord TRUTH, within his soul resides TRUTH(read God) himself. He relishes ultimate and immense pleasure within his own self.

Angg 464: Beggars and mimickers dance

• ਉਸ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਕਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੰਗਤੇ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਨੱਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਤਾਲ ਪੂਰਦੇ ਹਨ, To acquire Lord TRUTH's vision some dance like beggars in assorted manner

• ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਏ ਭੀ ਬਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਰਾਸਾਂ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ (ਮੂੰਹੋਂ) ਕਈ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਰੁਪਇਆਂ ਦੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਹਾਰ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ. Attired as kings/queens, traditional mimickers also display mimicries in bazaars. They flaunt precious garlands, sing and give out narrations in varied forms.

Angg 465: Dancing and jumping around is just a fancy and passion of the self willed mind.

• (ਰਾਸਧਾਰੀਏ) ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਨੱਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਇˆ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ। Mimickers dance and bang themselves against the floor to earn their livelihood.

• ਗੋਪੀਆਂ (ਦੇ ਸਾਂਗ ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕਾਨ੍ਹ (ਦੇ ਸਾਂਗ ਬਣ ਕੇ) ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸੀਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਜੀ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਂਗ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ । Attired as Rama, Sita, Krishna or Krashna's beloved Gopies, they sing and dance.

• (ਨੱਚਣ ਅਤੇ ਫੇਰੀਆਂ ਲੈਣ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਉਧਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ, ਵੇਖੋ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ ਭੌਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਕੋਹਲੂ, ਚਰਖਾ, ਚੱਕੀ, ਚੱਕ ਥਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਵਰੋਲੇ, ਲਾਟੂ, ਮਧਾਣੀਆਂ, ਫਲ੍ਹੇ, ਪੰਛੀ, ਭੰਭੀਰੀਆਂ ਜੋ ਇਕ-ਸਾਹੇ ਉਡਦੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ-ਇਹ ਸਭ ਭੌਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। (Those who dance and whirl around can not achieve salvation. Innumerable living and non-living beings keep dancing to no avail) Oil extracting machine, cotton spinning weaver, floor mill, chain of buckets extracting water from a well, so many tornadoes, children's whirling toys, milk churners, birds and insects which breathlessly whirl around, are just a few examples of the dancing objects.

• ਸੂਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਕਈ ਜੰਤ ਭਵਾਈਂਦੇ ਹਨ । so many animals/birds/insects are rotated and roasted after piercing iron rods through them.

• ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਭੌਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ । O Nanak! the extent of such dancers can not be realized.

• (ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਕੜ ਕੇ ਭਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਨੱਚ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । In the same way, Lord TRUTH makes every one dance to his will. Every one is dancing as per his past deeds.

• ਜੋ ਜੀਵ ਨੱਚ ਨੱਚ ਕੇ ਹੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ) ਰੋ ਕੇ (ਏਥੋਂ) ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ । Those who recklessly dance and laugh around, in the end, depart crying.

• (ਉਂਞ) ਭੀ ਨੱਚਣ ਟੱਪਣ ਨਾਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਅੱਪੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ, ਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਸਿੱਧ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। Moreover, neither can one reach the state of spiritually higher consciousness nor can he achieve perfection through dancing and jumping around.

• ਨੱਚਣਾ ਕੁੱਦਣਾ (ਕੇਵਲ) ਮਨ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੌਕ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਹੈ ।2। dancing and jumping around is just a fancy and passion of self willed mind. O Nanak! wisdom can be acquired only through fear and grace of Lord TRUTH.

Angg 469: Pseudo scholars dance, sing and preach to gather wealth

• ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਆਨ-ਵਾਨ (ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕ) ਅਖਵਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਨੱਚਦੇ ਹਨ, ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੇਸ ਵਟਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ; those who call themselves scholars and preachers dance, sing, play music and flaunt fancy costumes.

• ਉਹ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਕੂਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੁੱਧਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਸੰਗ ਸੁਣਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਜੋਧਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। These so called scholars yell and screech, narrate battle accounts and recount poetry written in praise of warriors.

• ਪੜ੍ਹੇ-ਲਿਖੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਚਲਾਕੀਆਂ ਕਰਨੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਦਲੀਲਾਂ ਦੇਣੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਪਰ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। These educated idiots know only trickery and vague arguments for the sake of gathering wealth.
