A proposed version for the dutch version.. Sorry for the quality... I wanted to make it asap so quality isn't excellent.. But can give a idea what it should look like.

Any chance of this becoming reality? Sunnybondsinghjalwehra 02:32, 1 May 2008 (MDT)

manual translation into other languages

Hi Sunny Singh,

This is a great idea and in the longer term we will have to go in this direction. However, we will need to have a look into the technical side of this and see how easily or difficult it is to set this up. If this can be done quickly, then we need to see how much impact this will have on our readers. HOWEVER, in the meantime, there is nothing to stop us starting some of the most important pages in a limited number of other languages now. All we need to do is give the title of the page in the other language. I think we should only work on a few Western languages as good coverage exists for Punjabi elsewhere and it is a community which is backward looking rather than progressive. We need to take Sikhi to a new level as the Gurus intended. No prejudices; no barring; no cultural baggage; just pure Gurmat and 100% Sikhi;

The problem will be maintaining a good standard and quality of work. If that drops, we will lose the momentum. Readers want good quality article with reasonable detail so they learn something new - Not just basic article with poor layouts and basic presentation.

At present, I feel we need to do a lot of improvements to our present 4000 odd articles in English to improve the standard here. Still rather then dilute our efforts on a lot of extra work, we need to look very carefully at reaching a more broader readership.

I am not trying to discourage you but give you my feelings about this matter. Let us look at the numbers as this is what matters in the end. How many people read the articles about our Gurus and Sikhism at SikhiWiki.

At present we have just had under 84,000 hits in a month at SikhiWiki or about 2,800 per day. The breakdown by country for the month just gone was:

# Country/Territory Visits Pages/Visit Avg. Time on Site % New Visits Bounce Rate
1. United Kingdom 22,651 3.22 00:03:22 66.91% 56.37%
2. United States 22,024 3.02 00:03:10 65.24% 58.25%
3. India 14,473 3.67 00:04:01 72.31% 53.90%
4. Canada 11,629 3.11 00:03:07 65.08% 57.19%
5. Australia 2,432 2.98 00:03:28 60.32% 57.44%
6. Malaysia 1,269 3.41 00:04:37 56.50% 50.20%
7. Germany 1,011 3.02 00:02:41 63.01% 59.55%
8. Singapore 639 3.69 00:04:22 61.50% 51.64%
9. United Arab Emirates 562 3.48 00:04:03 60.32% 56.76%
10. Pakistan 487 2.67 00:02:52 85.22% 64.07%

With Norway having 423 hits; Belgium had 420; Italy with 412; Ireland with 393; New Zealand with 377; Netherlands with 354; France only 335; Spain with 315; Hong Kong with 245; Thailand with 189; Kenya with 185; Sweden with 171; Mexico with 146; Denmark with 138 and Switzerland with only 131.

We need to set up a few pages in say French or Dutch and see the impact that this has. We also need to remember that many other Sikhs mat already be working on this at present - We should try and work with them.

Before we start, we need to see if other sites in other languages are available and what sort of coverage of Sikhi do they give. What are your thoughts on the points that I have made? More later... Hari Singh 08:48, 1 May 2008 (MDT)

SSA ji,

Sir ji, you are absolutely right! But if i make a page in dutch.. Do i have to send it to u or how do i put it on the site??

The only persons doing this already are the sikhs.nl team workers...

http://www.sikhs.nl/

In fact they have many articles in dutch, 2-3 in french, 1 in italian.. So we can ask them to collaborate with us..

So maybe with their permission we can already copy and paste a good 20-30 articles (of good quality) Sunnybondsinghjalwehra 16:00, 1 May 2008 (MDT)
