Hazrat Abu Saeed Fatehullah Masum was Hazrat Saint Hazrat Mian Mir's successor. After Aurangzeb's war of succession against his older brother Dara Shikoh, Aurangzeb took revenge against those whom he saw as a threat to his rule. Agents of Aurangzeb eventually caught and executed Dara Shikoh, the rightful heir to the Mughal throne, sending his severed head to Aurangzeb. As Dara had been both a Sufi and a disciple of Hazrat Mian Mir, Aurangzeb ordered the destruction of several Sufi Shrines and had a noted Sufi of Delhi, Sarmad Shahid, a friend of Dara's, beheded.

Because Mian Mir and his followers had supported Dara Shikoh in his struggle against his brother, Hazrat Abu Saeed Fatehullah Masum fled from Lahore to Amritsar seeking the protection of Guru Hargobind. The Guru granted him refuge and a large plot of land in the village of Dharamkot, near Amritsar, now known as Dharamkot Randhawa, where he spent the rest of his life. He was buried in the village.
