ਕਿਆ ਹਮ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਬੇਚਾਰੇ ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਹ ਝਕ ਰੋਮਾਈ ॥

ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਮਹੇਸ ਸਿਧ ਮ੝ਨਿ ਇੰਦ੝ਰਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਠਾਕ੝ਰ ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥

ਕਿਆ ਕਥੀਝ ਕਿਛ੝ ਕਥਨ੝ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ ਜਹ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਜਹ ਮਹਾ ਭਇਆਨ ਦੂਖ ਜਮ ਸ੝ਨੀਝ ਤਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੝ਰਭ ਤੂਹੈ ਸਹਾਈ ॥

ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਗਹੇ ਪ੝ਰਭ ਗ੝ਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਬੂਝ ਬ੝ਝਾਈ ॥੨॥੫॥੯੧॥

Bilaaval, Fifth Mehla:

What am I? Just a poor living being. I cannot even describe one of Your hairs, O Lord.

Even Brahma, Shiva, the Siddhas and the silent sages do not know Your State, O Infinite Lord and Master. ||1||

What can I say? I cannot say anything. Wherever I look, I see the Lord pervading. ||1||Pause||

And there, where the most terrible tortures are heard to be inflicted by the Messenger of Death, You are my only help and support, O my God.

I have sought His Sanctuary, and grasped hold of the Lord's Lotus Feet; God has helped Guru Nanak to understand this understanding. ||2||5||91||

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਹ—ਅਸੀ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ। ਸਾਕਹ—{ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਕਾਲ, ਉੱਤਮ ਪ੝ਰਖ, ਬਹ੝-ਵਚਨ}। ਰੋਮਾਈ—ਰੋਮ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਭੀ। ਮਹੇਸ—ਸ਼ਿਵ। ਸਿਧ—ਜੋਗ—ਸਾਧਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪ੝ੱਗੇ ਹੋਝ ਜੋਗੀ। ਮ੝ਨਿ—ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਾਈ ਬੈਠੇ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ। ਠਾਕ੝ਰ—ਹੇ ਠਾਕ੝ਰ! ਗਤਿ—ਹਾਲਤ। ਤੇਰੀ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ—ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ—ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕੀ।੧।

ਕਿਆ ਕਥੀਝ—ਕੀਹ ਦੱਸੀਝ? ਜਹ ਜਹ—ਜਿੱਥੇ ਜਿੱਥੇ, ਮੈਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਜਹ—ਜਿੱਥੇ। ਭਇਆਨ—ਭਿਆਨਕ। ਦੂਖ ਜਮ—ਜਮ ਦੂਖ, ਜਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਦ੝ੱਖ। ਤਹ—ਉੱਥੇ। ਪ੝ਰਭ—ਹੇ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ! ਗਹੇ—ਫੜੇ। ਗ੝ਰਿ—ਗ੝ਰੂ ਨੇ। ਕਉ—ਨੂੰ। ਬੂਝ ਬ੝ਝਾਈ—ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ।੨।

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ?-ਇਹ ਗੱਲ) ਕੀਹ ਦੱਸੀਝ? ਦੱਸੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ। ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਜਿਧਰ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਉਧਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ! (ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਝ ਹਾਂ) ਅਸਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਂਇਆਂ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਬਤ ਇਕ ਰੋਮ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਭੀ ਕ੝ਝ ਕਹਿ ਸਕੀਝ। (ਅਸੀ ਸਾਧਾਰਨ ਜੀਵ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ) ਬ੝ਰਹਮਾ, ਸ਼ਿਵ, ਸਿੱਧ, ਮ੝ਨੀ, ਇੰਦ੝ਰ (ਆਦਿਕ ਵਰਗੇ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕੇ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ।੧।

ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ! ਜਿੱਥੇ ਇਹ ਸ੝ਣੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੜੇ ਹੀ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਦ੝ੱਖ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਥੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ (ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮਦਦਗਾਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈਂ-ਗ੝ਰੂ ਨੇ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ। ਤਾਹੀਝਂ ਮੈਂ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆ ਪਿਆ ਹਾਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨ ਫੜ ਲਝ ਹਨ।੨।੫।੯੧।
