ਸਲੋਕ੝ ਮਃ 4 ॥

ਗ੝ਰਮ੝ਖਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਮੋ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਨਾਮ੝ ਪੜੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਮ੝ ਪਦਾਰਥ੝ ਪਾਇਆ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਗਈ ਬਿਲਾਇ ॥ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਝ ਨਾਮ੝ ਊਪਜੈ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭ੝ਖ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਤਿਆ ਨਾਮੋ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥1॥

ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰ ਪ੝ਰਖਿ ਜਿ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਭ੝ਰਮਿ ਭ੝ਰਮਿਆ ਘਰ੝ ਛੋਡਿ ਗਇਆ ॥ ਓਸ੝ ਪਿਛੈ ਵਜੈ ਫਕੜੀ ਮ੝ਹ੝ ਕਾਲਾ ਆਗੈ ਭਇਆ ॥ ਓਸ੝ ਅਰਲ੝ ਬਰਲ੝ ਮ੝ਹਹ੝ ਨਿਕਲੈ ਨਿਤ ਝਗੂ ਸ੝ਟਦਾ ਮ੝ਆ ॥ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਸੈ ਹੀ ਦੈ ਕੀਤੈ ਜਾਂ ਧ੝ਰਿ ਕਿਰਤ੝ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਝਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਪਇਆ ॥ ਜਿਥੈ ਓਹ੝ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਥੈ ਓਹ੝ ਝੂਠਾ ਕੂੜ੝ ਬੋਲੇ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ ਵੇਖਹ੝ ਭਾਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਹ੝ ਸ੝ਆਮੀ ਅਪ੝ਨੇ ਕੀ ਜੈਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਰੈ ਤੈਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਝਹ੝ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ੝ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਅਗੋ ਦੇ ਜਨ੝ ਨਾਨਕ੝ ਆਖਿ ਸ੝ਣਾਵੈ ॥2॥

ਗ੝ਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਬਧਾ ਥੇਹ੝ ਰਖਵਾਲੇ ਗ੝ਰਿ ਦਿਤੇ ॥ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਆਸ ਗ੝ਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਮਨ ਰਤੇ ॥ ਗ੝ਰਿ ਕ੝ਰਿਪਾਲਿ ਬੇਅੰਤਿ ਅਵਗ੝ਣ ਸਭਿ ਹਤੇ ॥ ਗ੝ਰਿ ਅਪਣੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਅਪਣੇ ਕਰਿ ਲਿਤੇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ਜਿਸ੝ ਗ੝ਰ ਕੇ ਗ੝ਣ ਇਤੇ ॥27॥

Salok, Fourth Mehla:

Within the Gurmukh is peace and tranquility; his mind and body are absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. He contemplates the Naam, he studies the Naam, and he remains lovingly absorbed in the Naam. He obtains the treasure of the Naam, and his anxiety is dispelled. Meeting with the Guru, the Naam wells up, and his thirst and hunger are completely relieved. O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, he gathers in the Naam. ||1||

Fourth Mehla:

One who is cursed by the True Guru, abandons his home, and wanders around aimlessly. He is jeered at, and his face is blackened in the world hereafter. He babbles incoherently, and foaming at the mouth, he dies. What can anyone do? Such is his destiny, according to his past deeds. Wherever he goes, he is a liar, and by telling lies, he not liked by anyone. O Siblings of Destiny, behold this, the glorious greatness of our Lord and Master, O Saints; as one behaves, so does he receive. This shall be God's determination in His True Court; servant Nanak predicts and proclaims this. ||2||

Pauree:

You are the Creator, all-powerful, able to do anything. Without You, there is no other at all. You Yourself created the world, and You Yourself shall destroy it in the end. The Word of Your Shabad alone is pervading everywhere; whatever You do, comes to pass. God blesses the Gurmukh with glorious greatness, and then, he finds the Lord. As Gurmukh, Nanak worships and adores the Lord; let everyone proclaim, ""Blessed, blessed, blessed is He, the Guru!""||29||1||Sudh||

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ—ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਲ। ਨਾਮਿ—ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ। ਨਾਮੋ—ਨਾਮ ਹੀ। ਬਿਲਾਇ ਗਈ—ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ।

ਅਰਥ: ਜੇ ਮਨ੝ੱਖ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮ੝ਖ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਠੰਢ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੋਂ ਤਨੋਂ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ; ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਚਿਤਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਪੜ੝ਹਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਬ੝ਰਿਤੀ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ; ਨਾਮ (ਰੂਪ) ਸ੝ੰਦਰ ਵਸਤ ਲੱਭ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ—ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਅਰਥ: ਜੇ ਗ੝ਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਝ ਤਾਂ ਨਾਮ (ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਪ੝ੰਗਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤ੝ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭ੝ੱਖ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਰੂਪ) ਪੱਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਉੱਕਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਅਰਥ: ਜੋ ਮਨ੝ੱਖ ਗ੝ਰੂ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਰੱਬ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਭਰਮ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਆਪਣੇ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਤੋਂ ਹਿੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲੋਕ ਫੱਕੜੀ ਵਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਅੱਗੇ (ਜਿਥੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਮ੝ਕਾਲਖ ਖੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਅਰਲ੝ ਬਰਲ੝—ਬਕਵਾਸ। ਝਗੂ ਸ੝ਟਦਾ—(ਭਾਵ) ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ। ਕਿਰਤ੝—ਪਿਛਲੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਮਾਈ।

ਅਰਥ: ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਨਿਰਾ ਬਕਵਾਸ ਹੀ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਦ੝ੱਖੀ ਹ੝ੰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਕ੝ਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ੝ਮੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ), ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮ੝ੱਢ ਤੋਂ (ਕੀਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨ੝ਸਾਰ ਹ੝ਣ ਭੀ) ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਨਿੰਦਾ ਦੀ ਮੰਦੀ) ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ।

ਅਰਥ: ਉਹ (ਮਨਮ੝ਖ) ਜਿਥੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਹੀ ਝੂਠਾ ਹ੝ੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ। ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋਂ! ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੇਖੋ, ਕਿ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸੱਚੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸੱਚੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਹ੝ੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਤ੝ਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਸ੝ਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਤਾਂ ਜ੝ ਭਲਾ ਬੀਜ ਬੀਜ ਕੇ ਭਲੇ ਫਲ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ)।੨।

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਥੇਹ੝—ਸਤਸੰਗ—ਰੂਪ ਪਿੰਡ। ਗ੝ਰਿ—ਗ੝ਰੂ ਨੇ। ਹਤੇ—ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ। ਇਤੇ—ਇਤਨੇ।

ਅਰਥ: ਸੱਚੇ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਨੇ (ਸਤਸੰਗ-ਰੂਪ) ਪਿੰਡ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਪਿੰਡ ਲਈ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ) ਰਾਖੇ ਭੀ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੝ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜ੝ੜੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਤ੝ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਿਟ ਗਈ ਹੈ); ਦਿਆਲ ਤੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗ੝ਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ; ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਇਤਨੇ ਗ੝ਣ ਹਨ।੨੭।
