Bhai Mal Das was a son of Bhai Balu Ram (who was martyred in the Battle of Amritsar during Guru Hargobind's period). His son was Bhai Mani Ram and his grandsons are famous Gursikhs Bachhiat Singh, Ajab singh, Ajaib singh and Udai Singh.
