The Sikhs prior to 1947 partition were mainly found, In the Punjab districts of Amritsar, Lahore, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala Princely State, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Firozpur, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Patiala Princely State, Jind Princely State, Ambala, Faridkot Princely State, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Jhelum, Rawalpindi. Large percentage of Sikhs were mainly agricultural native villagers, and many others Sikhs being Businessman, Tradesman, Carpenters, gold smiths, Shop owners, Army generals, or Army soldiers and governmental posts etc. During the time of partition the total Sikhs population In the Punjab was around 6,000,000.
