The ancient Indus Valley civilization flourished in the region. And one of the world's earliest and greatest universities - [[Taxila]] a Budhist and Hindu school attracted students from as far away as China. Budhism, an offshoot of Hinduism, flourished here traveling as far  West as  the Bamian valley (its Great Stone Buddhas were destroyed by the Talibaan) and  eastward throughtout Asia all the way to  the root of the Sun (Japan / Ni Hongo - Sun's root) and on across the Pacific Ocean.

Pothohar Plateau is a plateau of Punjab, now in Pakistan. Islamabad and Rawalpindi are situated on the plateau.
