If you go on the fields of battle you will see corpses piled upon corpses so that there is no place to place or put hand or foot. Men have died from the stench. No one has any hope of survival, for back to Punjab will go only those who have lost a leg or an arm or an eye. The whole world has been brought to destruction." • Sikh recipients of Victoria Cross, Indian Order of Merit IOM and Indian Distinguished Services Medals IDSM of both World Wars are in the book.

The repulsion and sacrifices of the Sikhs in the most horrifying battle penned on the pages of history, has been traced down in a book titled ‘Sikhs in World War I’ by Bhupinder Singh Holland.
The book lends voice to history's unsung Sikh heroes who laid down their lives during the First World War. The book was released on the occasion of the 10th death anniversary of Giani Bhagat Singh.
The encyclopedic and monumental work, with rare photographs, was released at the Department of History, Ramgarhia Girls College, by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar.
Avtar Singh Makkar said, “The contribution of the Sikh community during the World War I has been kept in shadow and this book will certainly be instrumental in shedding light on their immense sacrifices during the major war.”
The college principal, Dr Narinder Sandhu, said the release of a book that unravels the untold history of the Sikh martyrs is the most befitting tribute to Giani Bhagat Singh, who devoted his life to work for the community.
Ranjodh Singh, president, Ramgarhia Educational Council, said, “It was an honour for the Wisdom Collection to publish a book that commemorates the Sikh martyrs of World War I and saves a significant chapter of Sikh history from falling into the abyss of forgetfulness.”
The event was also marked by the presence of grandchildren of some of the Sikh martyrs who shared their vivid experiences with the gathering assembled on the occasion.

A book titled “Sikhs in World War-I” was released at Ramgarhia Girls College. The book, penned by Bhupinder Singh Holland, is a historical account of the role Sikhs played during World War-I.
SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar released the book. He proposed to purchase 1,000 copies of the book to donate to various Sikh libraries, gurdwaras, embassies and Sikh institutions around the world.
Bhupinder Singh Holland had earlier written books like “How Europe in Indebted to Sikhs”, “Role of Sikhs in Europe during World War-I 1914-1918”, “Role of Sikhs in Europe during World War-II 1939-1945” and “The Dutch Sikhs-A Brief History”.
The book has been published by Ranjodh Singh’s publication House, Wisdom Collection. The next book by Bhupinder Singh Holland about the role of “Sikhs in World War II” would be published by the SGPC.
During the book release function, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar proposed to donate Rs 1 lakh to the college. He is a staunch supporter of women education, he said.
Ranjodh Singh, president, Ramgarhia Educational Council, said it was an honour for his publication house to publish the encyclopedic work of the Sikh history.

Ludhiana, August 14, 2013: To pay tribute to the sacred memory of Giani Bhagat Singh on the tenth anniversary of his death, the Department of History of Ramgarhia Girls College in association with Wisdom Collection, an imprint of GS Distribution Inc., organised a book release function on Wednesday.
The book titled Sikhs in World War I, authored by Bhupinder Singh Holland, expounds on the neglected history of the Sikh martyrs who laid down their lives during the First World War.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Avtar Singh Makkar, President, SGPC and the Keynote Speakers were Dr. Prithipal Singh Kapur, Former Pro V. C., GNDU and Charanjit Singh, an eminent writer.
The better half of Bhupinder Singh Holland, Gurpreet Kaur Holland was also present on the occasion and she was duly honoured by the management of the college. The book was released by Avtar Singh ji Makkar who averred that the contribution of the Sikh community in the World War I has been kept in shadow and this book will certainly be instrumental in shedding light on their immense sacrifices during the major war.
Dr. Prithipal Singh Kapur, in his Keynote address lauded the endeavour of Bhupinder Singh Holland and said that a lot of effort and hard work has been put in by him in collecting the data of the Sikh soldiers and in compiling their history in this colossal book.
Charanjit Singh also said during his talk that this book will be highly valuable for the Sikh history as it apprises one of the bravery of the Sikh community. He further added that the Sikhs are known all over world for their bravery and this book reinforces their valour and fearlessness during the tough times.
The college Principal, Dr. Narinder Sandhu said that the release of a book that unravels the untold history of the Sikh martyrs is the most befitting tribute to Giani Bhagat Singh who was a devout Sikh himself and pledged his life to the service of the community.

ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ, 14 ਅਗਸਤ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਜੱਥੇਦਾਰ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮੱਕੜ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਦੇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਕੌਮ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਮੁੱਲਾ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਬਲਕਿ ਉਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਪੂਰਨਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਚੱਲ ਕੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਤੇ ਕੌਮ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਹਿਮ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾਉਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ । ਸਥਾਨਕ ਰਾਮਗੜੀਆ ਗਰਲਜ਼ ਕਾਲਜ ਵਿਖੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ 10ਵੀਂ ਬਰਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਭੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਾਲੈਂਡ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਲਿਖੀ ਗਈ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਸਿੱਖਸ ਇਨ ਵਰਡ ਵਾਰ - ਫਸਟ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਅਰਪਣ ਕਰਨ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ 'ਚ ਇੱਕਤਰ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਸਖਸ਼ੀਅਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੋਣਹਾਰ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਜੱਥੇਦਾਰ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮੱਕੜ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਭੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਾਲੈਂਡ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਜੰਗ (ਫਸਟ ਵਰਡ ਵਾਰ) ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੂਰਬੀਰਤਾ, ਦਲੇਰੀ ਤੇ ਬਹਾਦਰੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨਾਮੇ ਦਿਖਾ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਮੁੱਚੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਫੌਜੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਜੋ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਪੁਖਤਾ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਮਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੈ । ਉਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਤਕਰੀਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਜੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਫੌਜੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਅੱਖੋਂ ਪਰੋਖਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੁੜ ਉਭਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਇਆ, ਖਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਅਣਖ, ਗੈਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਦਸਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਬਹਾਲ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਜਿਸ ਢੰਗ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਯੁੱਧਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖ ਫੌਜੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੱਧ ਚੜ ਕੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੂਰਬੀਰਤਾ ਦੇ ਜੌਹਰ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਯੋਰਪੀਅਨ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੀ ਯੂਨੀਅਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਧ ਲੈਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਸਵੈਮਾਨ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਦਸਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਬਹਾਲ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਰਾਖ ਦਿਲੀ ਦਿਖਾਉਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ । ਉਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਣਗੋਲੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਪਰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਉਕਤ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਫਰਮ ਵਿਜ਼ਡਮ ਕੁਲੈਕਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਜ਼ੋਰਦਾਰ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਕਤ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਦੀਆਂ ਇੱਕ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਕਾਪੀਆਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਖਰੀਦਣ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਥੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਿੱਖਸ ਇਨ ਵਰਡ ਵਾਰ - ਸੈਕਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਖਰੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਛਪਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਲੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੇਣ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਮਗੜੀਆ ਗਰਲਜ਼ ਕਾਲਜ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਲੱਖ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਰਾਸ਼ੀ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਰਸਮੀ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ । ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਘੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕਦੇਵ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਉਪਕੁਲਪਤੀ ਡਾ. ਪ੍ਰਿਥੀਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਪੂਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ. ਭੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਾਲੈਂਡ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸਿੱਖ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਅੰਕੜੇ ਇੱਕਠੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਇੱਕ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਨਾ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੈ । ਖਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਪੀੜੀ ਤੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਉਕਤ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਇੱਕ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ । ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਘੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਚਰਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਵੱਡਮੁੱਲਾ ਖਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ, ਉਥੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਨਵੇਂ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਸਿਰਜਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਅਹਿਮ ਰੋਲ ਅਦਾ ਕਰੇਗੀ । ਉਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਫੌਜੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਬਹਾਦਰੀ ਤੇ ਨਿਡੱਰਤਾ ਦੀ ਦਾਸਤਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਅਹਿਮ ਕੜੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰੇਗੀ । ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਜੱਥੇਦਾਰ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮੱਕੜ, ਡਾ. ਪ੍ਰਿਥੀਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਪੂਰ, ਰਾਮਗੜੀਆ ਐਜੂਕੇਸ਼ਨਲ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਰਣਜੋਧ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਰਨਲ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਜਗਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਕਾਲਜ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਨਰਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਸੰਧੂ ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਸਖਸ਼ੀਅਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ. ਭੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਾਲੈਂਡ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਰਚਿਤ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਸਿੱਖਸ ਇਨ ਵਰਡ ਵਾਰ - ਫਸਟ ਨੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਅਰਪਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ । ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸ. ਭੁਪਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਾਲੈਂਡ ਦੀ ਸਤਿਕਾਰਯੋਗ ਪਤਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਤੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾਯੋਗ ਕਾਰਜ ਲਈ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੀ ਮੈਨੇਜਮੈਂਟ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਉਥੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਜੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਹੋਏ ਕੁੱਝ ਸਿੱਖ ਫੌਜੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਕ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਉਚੇਚੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ । ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਜਸਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਰਿਆਤ, ਚਰਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਕਰਮਾ, ਗੁਰਮੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਲਾਰ, ਰਣਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਖਾਲਸਾ, ਸਮੇਤ ਰਾਮਗੜੀਆ ਐਜੂਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਅਹੁੱਦੇਦਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਈ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਸ਼ਖਸ਼ੀਅਤਾਂ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ ।
