Gurus, Images and Statues

gur kaa sabad raakh man maahi.

Keep the Word of the Guru's Shabad in your mind.

naam simar chintaa sabh jaahi. ||1||

Meditating in remembrance on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, all anxiety is removed. ||1|| (SGGS page 864)

gur kay charan ridai ur Dhaar.

Enshrine the Guru's Feet in your heart.

None of the Sikh Gurus allowed any artist of the time to draw, paint or sculpt them, hence there are no drawings, paintings or sculptures that could accurately depict their rup (form).

Photography was not invented until many years after their time on earth. The many paintings and drawings in homes and Sikh establishments around the world are images from the minds of artists; no one has any idea of what any Sikh Gurus looked like.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji passed the Guruship on to the Guru Granth Sahib as a guide for all Sikhs. Does the Granth have anything to say about Images or Sculpture?
