The Five Holy Takhats & the Guru Granthi Today In India today there are five historical Thrones of the Guru called Takhats which are ruling centers for the Khalsa. They are:

  • Akal Takhat in Amritsar (beside the Golden Temple)
  • Siri Keshgar Sahin in Anandpur Sahib (Birthplace of the Khalsa)
  • Takhat Harimandar-Patna Sahib (Birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh)
  • Takhat Dam Damma Sahib (in Batinda district of Panjab)
  • Takhat Sachkhand in Hazur Sahib (place where Guru Gobind Singh breathed his last breath)

Each Takhat has four Granthi’s and one "Mukh" (Head Granthi) to maintain the daily activities of the Guru in the Takhat’s Gurudwara.
