Kara: Iron bangle
Worn by sikhs to make a social statement & formal commitment to the Guru - Words of Wisdom.
It testifies to a sikh's being a life time student dedicated to the search of 'TRUTH' through humble service & absolute submission'(analysis, understanding & implementation of principles scripted in 'The Guru Granth Sahib') to GURU. The term 'GURU' refers not to a human GURU, but 'Satgur' or' Gur' i.e 'TRUE IDEA(s)' of living dedicated to absolute 'TRUTH' & 'Humanity'.
One of the five symbols Sikh Identity, it conveys the idea that a sikh is eternally hand-cuffed to ONE ABSOLUTE 'TRUTH'(GOD/GURU) consolidated in the Holy Book.
