About the College

Today with educational institutions spreading at a fast rate in J&K state, there is a demand for trained graduates to cater to the needs of these educational institutions, Sant Manjit Singh Ji with his vision and Zeal to serve humanity felt the necessity of opening a College of Education as a gesture of goodwill to help the education system in the state. He proposed to the memory of the bicentenary celebrations, the establishment of Dera named after Sant Mela Singh Ji who established this Dera (Abode of ants) at Poonch in year 1803.

Mission

In establishing 'Sant Mela Singh College of Education' the Dera Sant Pura Nangali Sahib has a special mission. The College shall contribute in a humble way in Growth and Development of a happy Global Educated Society fully aware of basic values and aspirations of humanity.

Objective

The main objectives of this Institution are to provide teacher's training to the pupil-teachers to make them the best builders of the Nation's future generations and to extend facilities of research, development, training and consultancy to the teaching sector, as well to impart high quality education to the students in the society through trained teachers of this College.

College Profile

The College has spacious Class Rooms, Audiovisual Room, Girl's Common Room, Boy's Common Room, well furnished Staff Room, Multipurpose Hall, Library. Student facilities and Canteen.

Apart from the above, there are well maintained lawns and playgrounds in the College.


Affiliation

The Sant Mela Singh College of Education is affiliated with the University of Jammu awarding the B.Ed degree. As such the institution is conducting teaching and training programmes strictly in accordance with the course programmes and syllabi approved by the Faculty of Education, University of Jammu under the provisions of B.Ed. status. Further, all the students admitted to SMSCOE shall be bound by rules and regulations prescribed/framed by University of Jammu for the students of Affiliated Private Colleges with respect to attendance and examinations, promotions and detention, etc., under the relevant B.Ed statutes.

COLLEGE RULES

A pupil of the College must be punctual and regular in attendance. A student will be eligible to sit for the examination only if he / she has 75% attendance to his / her credit. Parents will not be allowed to meet their wards during class work. However they can meet their wards in waiting room with prior permission of the Principal. Irregularity in attendance, neglect of home task, habitual indiscipline, disrespectful behaviour towards fellow students and teachers, bad moral influence, use of unfair means during examinations, damage to college property etc. will be sufficient reasons for the dismissal of such a student from the college. a) A student who remains absent for more than 7 days without prior intimation may have his/her name struck off from the class rolls. b) Unauthorised absence from the class shall be punished with a fine of Rs. 1/- per period as a determent to the tendency of truency.

The students will not leave the College premises during the working hours except with the permission of the Principal.

They shall be in proper uniform prescribed by the College. During the training period in the College, students are expected to maintain a high sense of discipline.

No student of the College shall accept or retain full time or part time job during the period of his/her training in this instituion.

Students are requested to go through, carefully, the rules and regulationsabout attendance in lectures, delivery of lessons, library hostel leave, timely payment of fees and observe them strictly.After admission of candidates is finalised, it shall be taken for granted that all rules have been properly gone through by them.

History

An introduction to His Holiness Sant Mela Singh ji becomes necessary in the very first issue of the College Web site as this college is named after him.Sant ji is at fourth place in lineage of Holy men appointed by Guru Gobind Singh ji to propagate the mission of Guru Nanak dev ji in this part of the country. The first missionary appointed by 10th Master was Sant Baba Pheru Singh ji. He handed over his work to Sant Punjab Singh ji who, in turn,appointed Sant Rocha Singh ji and he latter put Sant Mela Singh ji in charge of the mission handed down to this lineage of Sants by Guru Gobind Singh ji in 1699 A.D. Sant Mela Singh ji was born in the year 1783 A.D. in village Kotehrhi of Tehsil Bag-Poonch.(Now in PoK). the name of his father was Bhai Makhan Singh ji, who was a farmer and a pious soul. His father expired when he was eleven year old only. His mother looked after him and gave him education in Gurbani. He not only become proficient in learning shabads of Gurbani but could sing the same in his melodious voice. Sant Rocha Singh ji trained young disciple as per needs of the times. He also taught him the secrets of meditation. Sant Mela Singh ji established the Sant Dera(adobe of Sants) at village Nangali near Poonch city in 1803 A.D. It was known as Shromani Dera Sant Pura, Nangali Sabih. Poonch in due course of time. Sant Mela Singh college of Education Digiana Jammu has been established to commemorate bicentenary of the establishment of Dera sant Pura Nangali Sahib, named after sant ji and dedicated to the people of Jammu and Kashmir in particular and the rest of the country in general.


BACKGROUND

The Sants of Shrornani Dera Sant Pura Nangali Sahib (Poonch) J&k state have been imparting Spiritual, Educational and Economic help to the people of Jammu & Kashmir State in particular and entire humanity in general through Spiritual Discourses and by opening Educational Institutions, Technical Ashrams and Deras where free langer is served to all. Sants of the Dera propagated the Mission of Guru Nanak through selfless service to Mankind. Just after 1947,when large population of state was isplaced, the then Mahant of this Dera Sant Bhai Bachitter Singh ji opened hostels in Jammu and of Tral (Kashmir) for students so that they may be able to continue their education in schools and colleges. He had also established Sant Rocha Singh Technical Ashram at Baramulla (Kashmir) and Sant Mela Singh Technical Ashram at Digiana Jammu, for poor youth who could learn vocations like carpentry,cutting, tailoring, printing and classical music for singing Gurbani to earn their livelihood. Successor to Mahant Bachitter Singh Ji is Mahant Manjit Singh Ji. He is serving the humanity with same Zeal. He established Mahant Bachitter Singh College of Engineering and Technology at Babliana- Jammu and upgraded Guru Harkrishan Public School to 10+2 level. He opened a branch of GHPS at Poonch and Guru Hargobind School at Nowshera.




HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE

Sant Mela Singh College of Education has been established by Sant Manjit Singh Trust registered under the aegis of Dera Sant Pura Nangali Sahib Poonch, J&K State, India. Sant Manjit Singh Ji with his vision and Zeal to serve humanity felt necessity of opening College of Education as a gesture of goodwill to help the Education system in the state. He proposed to the memory of the bicentenary celebrations of the establishment of Dera and named after Sant Mela Singh Ji who established this Dera at Poonch in year 1803 A.D
