Nanak and Jogis - a Picture by Kid from Sikhnet

Yogi Lohareepa or Loharipa was a devotee of Gorakhnath and was a Gorakhpanthi yogi. He had discourse with Guru Nanak, the first Guru of Sikhism. He was on Gaddi of Gorakhnath. His Discourse is situated in Guru Granth Sahib in bani called Sidh Gosat. Lohreepa told Guru Nanak about Yog Matt and Guru Nanak cleared that the Matt he told about is not right matt but it's about Maya.

The Sidh Gosti is a versified account of the Guru`s discourse with a group of Natha ascetics. Among them is mentioned Loharipa which is taken to be the Punjabi form of Luipa, Tibetan name for Matsyendranath who flourished in the 10th century AD. Loharipa in Guru Nanak`s Sidh Gosli may be the name given a contemporary Natha yogi.

In the verses in the text, he says that the yogis live in the woods away from the world, eat roots and fruit and bathe at the pilgrim centres, thus attaining peace and tranquillity. Guru Nanak said that without cherishing the Lord`s Name, the mind will not be stilled. Whether in the family or outside, one should not even for a wink be oblivious of Him.

Yogi Lohareepa Said:

Away from stores and highways, we live in the woods, among plants and trees.

For food, we take fruits and roots. This is the spiritual wisdom spoken by the renunciates.

We bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, and obtain the fruits of peace; not even an iota of filth sticks to us.

this is the Way of Yoga." Luhaareepaa, the disciple of Gorakh says. ||7||

Nanak Said:

In the stores and on the road, do not sleep; do not let your consciousness covet anyone else's home.

Without the Name, the mind has no firm support; O Nanak, this hunger never departs.

The Guru has revealed the stores and the city within the home of my own heart, where I intuitively carry on the true trade.

Sleep little, and eat little; O Nanak, this is the essence of wisdom". ||8||

Yogi Lohareepa Said:
This is the way to instruct the mind, so you will never suffer beatings again.

Nanak Said:
Nanak speaks: the Gurmukh understands; this is the way that Yoga is attained. ||9||
