Sarbjeet ji, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

Many thanks for your contribution on this topic but I think (and believe) that the definition is not strictly correct according to Gurbani and in particular Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Doesn't this Shabad give a definition of a Sikh - Maharaj says:

SGGS Page 305 Full Shabad

Servant Nanak begs for the dust of the feet of that GurSikh, who himself chants the Naam, and inspires others to chant it. ॥2॥

The mention of Kesh is not there. I wonder where it in Gurbani it says that a Sikh MUST have Kesh and that without Kesh the person cannot be a Sikhs?

Also, until 1699, it appears that there was no requirement for Sikhs to don a Turban and I wonder if all Sikhs kept their hair? Personally, I believe not. Also many Muslims were engaged in the Guru service but they remained Muslims - and there must have been many who followed the Gurus, but had not yet become "full" Sikhs - Surely here the word Sehajdhari applies and then they may don hair and turban and be called Keshdhari without actually taking Amrit.

I accept that after 1699, the requirement changed but only for the Khalsa. Some say that various famous Sikhs did not become Khalsa - ie? Bhai Nand Lal ji, Bhai Kanhaiya ji, etc. To me the word Keshdhari is relevant but it does not make the other word like Sehajdhari, Amritdhari, etc redundant.

That's my humble feelings - what do you say? das. Hari Singh 08:20, 21 July 2007 (EDT)

Gur Fateh WaKaFa ! User: Mutia 17 Jul 07

Dear Sarbjeet Singh ji WaKaFa! thanks for your interest & staying with the site. I am a girl and writer by Profession , Located in Delhi .I write on SikhiWiki as Gurbani expects us to do GurSeva (Seva of SatGurBani).

As I can appreciate from spirit of your letter that God ( Nanak prefers to refer to God as 'TRUTH god' because true Name of GOD is 'TRUTH'. i. e. SatNaam as is written in the beginning of Mool Mantar. ) has blessed you with the intellect to read SatGurBani written on your heart. SatGurBani was not written by our gurus. It is already written on every body's heart. Gurus just copied it on paper for us to get guided for reading it from our heart ( they sacrificed themself for doing this) .

A Sikh is called a TRUE Sikh. only when he learns to read Gurbani from his / her heart . Gurbani is GOD's language written on every one's heart. By repeatedly listening to, speaking / singing ,& pondering over the meaning one becomes fluent in understanding the TRUE meaning conveyed by it. This is TRUE Sikhi..

In this writing I have included some links relevant to the persona of TRUE Sikh. & his his/ her TRUE Sikhi. . Do share your mind with other users on any Issues which you think are worth discussing keeping in mind Our Gurus' thumb rule on practicing Sikhi. as given in this tuk of Bani ...hum nhin changy bura nahin koy....... First we must correct ourselves before we discuss stupidities of others.

As a new guest to the house needs guidance about the lay out of the rooms, location of switches etc, please permit me to give you a broad lay out of our house called Sikhi . Better still, we need to treat this web site not as a mere Web Site but a Gurdwara. It is an IT age Gurdwara. I love to call this Gurdwara it self as Sikhi by hiding its 'Wiki' part of the name from the readers but not from the Server . Here are a few points about Sikhi (layout ) of Sikhi( this Gurdwara)

all pages on Sikhi are organised in pairs as under:-

  • 1.Article Pages The page which carries the articles being written by users. the name of the page becomes the Name of the page itself . Here we need to ensure that a correct name is given.
  • 2. Talk Pages On these pages other users write their comments on the Article.

Every user owns a pair of two pages as under :-

  • 1. Your Personal Page : This is a personal page and every user is expected to introduse himself to all the other users about his name interests etc like I have done on this page of mine. This is Your Personal Page. You can write about yourself some thing like you write in your bio-data submitted for applying for a job etc. Do not give any telephone Nos. In case you are comfortable with working on Net & with due approval from Senior members of your family, you may give your e mail address. It will helps other users of similar interests to communicate with you through email.
  • 2. Your User Talk Page: This is your letter Box where users will write messages for you like I am writing this Text Now

I have moved your letter written to me on my This User Talk Page.

Two articles initiated by you titled 'Nanak in J & K' and 'J & K Sikhs' have been named that way on two different Article Pages. From now on, I plan working with you as a team on J & K Sikhs Page. Try writing your views on this page after practicing a bit on a page called Sand Bag .You should be able to get the link of 'Sand Bag' from this-->>'HELP!'page 'Sand Bag' is some thing like a place where one learns driving before actually driving in heavy traffic. For details of how to work on Sikhi. (this Web Site) click here --->>>> HELP!

In my next communication I plan sharing my mind with you on the issue of Punjab Sikhs as you rightfully expressed your concern about Stay in touch .  ! I know J & K well as my father was posted there about a few years back . Bye for now. & Gur Fateh .....User: Mutia

Keshdhari Sikhs

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh Sarbjeet ji, You take a very firm stand on kesh - you said "A sikh without keshas is not considered a sikh". This is a very strong statement and does not give any leeway to a person who is slowly adopting the Sikh way. I agree that kesh is important but I believe that Gurmat does not bar a person from calling himself a Sikh if he has not yet donned full kesh.
All I am trying to establish is where we draw the line. I say if one accepts Sri Guru Granth Sahib as Guru and none other, then he is a Sikh. You say that the person must have Kesh before he can call himself a Sikh. I have never come across this in Gurbani - It is purely for that reason I asked you ...where in Gurbani it says that a Sikh MUST have Kesh and that without Kesh the person cannot be a Sikhs? Does it actually say that in Gurbani? I agree we have a difference of opinion but I was wondering if you are relying on Gurbani to come to your opinion or "you have formed this opinion independently"? Kind regards. das, Hari Singh 17:52, 21 July 2007 (EDT)

Sikh Magazine

You moved the article untitled "Sikh Phulwari" to "SIKH MAGZINES" - This has several errors -

  • 1. the titles should be in "Title case" - See Wikipedia Naming conventions
  • 2. The spelling according to my spell-checker is incorrect. Please use spell-checker to check all the spellings in the title and in the text of the article. But the title is most important!
  • 3. The name of the magazine is "Sikh Phulwari" - so that seems to be the right name to give to the article - don't you agree?

I hope you agree with me on these points. das, Hari Singh 12:35, 18 August 2007 (EDT)

I am glad we have sorted this one out quickly - I have created a new Category under "Magazines". I hope that will help us categorise these articles more efficiently. Many thanks, Hari Singh 16:09, 18 August 2007 (EDT)

  • These are the tricks which web site mangers resort to, to hide their faces.
  • Since WikiPedia is not a Khalsa web site we can not really expect them to follow the Sikhi concepts of Sharing TRUE IDEAs.
  • They ( even our own Sikh Web sites ) regulate the inputs from Khalk (Humanity / Guru roop / TRUTH god)as per their whims, fencies, profits & ugendas. Will be with you --{{User: Mutia|--Mutia 13:49, 25 August 2007 (EDT)]]

I have looked at the page on Wikipedia Magnetic Hill (India) and I agree that the information there is incorrect - unfortunately, the setup at Wikipedia is driven by the majority who are non-Sikhs - so it is impossible to get the correct information on the Sikhi articles easily at that site.
I have left a message with User:Sukh who has more experience at Wikipedia and I hope he will be able to help - although he also does not play an important role there now. Unfortunately, the article is based on incorrect information from the Hindu newspaper - may be we should get that corrected first!
I would not worry about that site too much as it is well known that many Sikhi aspect have been wrongly represented. Let us work on SikhiWiki and make it the number 1 site for Sikhi information. Then Wikipedia will refer users to our site! Kind regards. das, Hari Singh 17:14, 25 August 2007 (EDT)

We Indians are Misinforming the World about Ourselves

  • I got the page...

Writes Indian Daily HINDU of jun 3003:-

"A few kilometres from the ``Magnetic Hill is ``Gurdwara Patthar Sahib where Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth guru of sikhs, had sat on meditation in the 17th century. The Gurdwara, which has its own religious importance for the Sikhs, has remained in the oblivion due to its location."

"Maintained by the Army, the Gurdwara is more of a place of prayer for the locals, armymen and tourists. Not many Sikhs from other parts of the country visit the place."

Sarabjeet je, I have supplemented your note. Could you share with us the source of your info. Before Wikipedia, It calls for HINDU being asked to clarify the anamoly.

Duplicate categories?

Khalsa ji, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

Can only find the category Gurudwara In Jammu & Kashmir which has 14 members - I cannot find the other one - please type the exact name. Thanks. das, Hari Singh 12:33, 9 September 2007 (EDT)

I think the list at Gurdwaras_In_India - Jammu & Kashmir and the category list produced by Gurudwara In Jammu & Kashmir are both useful because the first one lists all the Gurdwaras even if no article exists for that Gurdwara while the other one only gives a list of existing gurdwaras in J&K. They cannot be said to be absolute duplicates but I agree that there is some repetition in the lists. I believe that User:Thegreateditor has done a lot of work on the Gurdwara lists - perhaps you can ask him to have a look at this problem. Also, I am not familiar with the Gurdwara in J&K. You may find that he has better knowledge of Gurdwara in India. das, Hari Singh 22:26, 9 September 2007 (EDT)

Sarbjeet ji,

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh
Khalsa ji, thank you for your kind message. With Waheguru's grace I hope you are all fine.
Hopefully the Gurudwara article has now been sorted! I have merged the two articles.
Regarding the Gurdwaras in india J&k list - if you goto the Gurdwaras that are not in the "Gurudwaras In Jammu & Kashmir category" and add the category line at the bottom - that will bring them into the category list. Let me know if you have any difficulty.

Kind regards, das, Hari Singh 11:36, 16 September 2007 (EDT)

Sarbjeet ji,
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh
Khalsa ji, Second Gurdwaras also done. I hope this is now OK. Many thanks for the careful observation. Regards, das Hari Singh 10:55, 17 September 2007 (EDT)

...Gurbani should not be inserted in every article

Sarabjeet je WaKaFa !

Sikh Code of Conduct

Respected Sarbjeet, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

I accept what you say - Many different Sikh bodies continue to have so called "Rehat Maryadas" but this article is dealing with the Codes of conduct as stipulated by Guru Granth Sahib. The article SGGS on meat gives quotations from Gurbani which deal with this issue and should be the deciding factor for a Sikh. As a Guru's Sikh, I think Gurbani is our only spiritual guide in this world and that we should not rely on any other guidance or "Rehat Maryada".

SikhiWiki is a web-site completely devoted to the Guru and as such we cannot get involved in the "manmat" influenced "maryadas" being proposed by the many different Sikh bodies. As Sikhs, what the Guru says should be our only guidance in life. We should not be influenced in our spiritual understanding by other sources. I am not "spreading my views" in this article - The statement is based on the article SGGS on meat, which has quotations from Gurbani. I am only interpreting the message of our Guru.

What do you think of the message of the Guru? SGPC is not the authority on Sikhism, the Guru is! SGPC can only be a guide in this matter, just like any other external body. ONLY the Guru is the authority on matter pertaining to Sikhism. A Sikh is defined as a person who follows the Guru Granth Sahib only.

I don't follow anyone but the Guru and I am sure you will also do the same. Let us all be the followers of our Guru and no-one-else. God Bless - Guru de kirpa. Bhul-chuk-maf, das, Hari Singh 12:18, 14 September 2007 (EDT)

Gurudwara Pather Sahib, Leh

Sarbjeet Ji

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

Well done and congratulation on your marvellous effort in the name of the Guru. May Waheguru continue to bless you with such perseverance and dedication to Sikhi. You have my support and respect for the excellent observation and then the strength to make sure that the TRUTH prevails. Regards always, das Hari Singh 16:26, 19 September 2007 (EDT)

To give direct link to a SikhiWiki page - First in a separate tab (or window) load the SikhiWiki article on the Gurdwara. Go to the top of the window at the url line. Copy this url. Eg: for the page on Gurudwara Pather Sahib, Leh the url is: http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Gurudwara_Pather_Sahib%2C_Leh - Once you have highlighted this and copied it, go to the Wikipedia article and under the section "External Links" enter the line as shown below:
* [http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Gurudwara_Pather_Sahib%2C_Leh SikhiWiki article on Gurudwara]
Then preview and save in the normal way. That should do the trick! Good luck. das, Hari Singh 05:34, 20 September 2007 (EDT)

Mutia aka Amita Singh blocked?????

Sarbjeet Ji, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

I have warned User:Mutia several times about keeping to Wiki-style and wiki-etiquette but I have not carried out the blocking action. I have checked the block list and the user is not on the list - It is possible that the user shares the same ip address as user:Viamedia who was block for advertising, I believe. I will scan the wiki forum to see if the ip address can be re-instated without user:Viamedia. Many thanks for letting me know. Regards, Hari Singh 16:20, 21 September 2007 (EDT)

Unfortunate indeed!

Sarbjeet ji

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

It is a shame that a seemingly respectable user with love for our Guru's work can do such a thing. I agree also that as users, we have a duty not to offence others who use this site. I will send Harpreet a message to highlight the problem that such comments can cause. das, Hari Singh 20:53, 3 October 2007 (EDT)

thanks Sarbjeet you must be up late or early as its midnight here I wrote a long intro on my talk page which turned out overly long had never noticed the user page tab. paapi had wrote in response to my request re. roses i responded he told me he would talk with me no more unless i introduced myself so there are several long and short responses on my talk log. will transfer the last to the talk page. will have to translate the Rs. figure will get back to you. I'm worry i'm a nuisance like a child saying why, why, why.

people don't seem to have been in the habit of looking at disscussions on story pages I've asked many questions my latest was in a line from the SGGS or rather one about a dirge written by Guru Nanak ji about 9 stages of life or, i don't quite remember.

is paapi really a word for sin? see another question will post the last shorter intro into user page my bad! thanks if I may call you yaar? Yaar is also slang in japan for friend.Allenwalla 00:08, 13 October 2007 (EDT)

Good day, Sarbjeet spent the morning reading the ASA DI VAR many words i recognize as roots of english words. My copy seems to expand a little on Guru Nanak's words as there is usually 5 to 6 times as many words in English. For the true intent oof the writing i guess i'll have to study Gurmukhi.

Came to the lines about the graves of the mussalmen mixing with the potters clod which caused so much animosity between the later Nanak and his son.

Can't for the life of me understand why this upset Aurangzeb as my muslim friend and his wife told me of the muslim belief of punishment in the grave untill the day of redemption very superstitious they showed me a pix that that traveled the internet of the susposed proof of this torture by a hammer that as the Qur'an says would smash a mountain. I told them the pix which looked photoshop fixed didn't look that flat. Maybe its only the wicked that cry out in torture til judgement day,Allenwalla 13:00, 14 October 2007 (EDT)

also left a couple of notes on Zamzama thanks for the article as i and most people don't know how to get a proper fraction to show on the page i see many people spell them out, i have taken to adding a dot between the whole no. and fraction. checked your spot on my map would love to see J&K but my Kashmiri aquaintances tell me its to dangerous. looks just like my home my house sits in a forest with 2-300 ft. tall pines and poplars all around. last nite i walked out and 3 or 4 deer were about 30 ft. away. about 15 run through the yard every day nesting just over a hill behind my house a creek/stream runs by the house to the large lake, Lake Lanier, which a severe drought of 3 years threantens to dry up leaving 4,000,000, 40 lakhs people w/out water by next year we pray for kali mega? my hindi, urdu, persian is pretty bad next to non existant. very jealous of you guys who can speak so many, please erase as you need.

Greetings, a cloudy morning in GA

Sardarji thanks for the polishing on my user page, it was late into the nite, (2am) I was very fatigued. On tv just now Pres. Bush having to explain his coming visit with the Dalai Lama. The Chinese are very upset. He tells the Chinese of his support for religious freedom. Last week our congress upset the Turks for mentioning the genocide of the Turks' who slaughtered 1.5 million Armenians in 1910s. Most americans are unaWAre of the slaughters in 1947 or oct of '84 of the Sikhs.

Forgot to mention used to practise E-ido japanese sword art. my katana (long japanese sword) has a scabbard of WW II, japanese military issue/ Katana is basically good hindi for to cut (excuse my spelling. All the martial arts of china and japan are accredited to India's Kshatria castes (khatri) as Guru Angad dropped unused letters never pronounced. In much the same way Guru Nanak dropped what he saw as meaningless rituals practiced to keep people separate from the lord God and keep money coming in. The same way Sikh priests had to be chased out of the Gurdwara's.

Anyway saw a pix of and elder Sikh in a tank at a Gurdwara doing (charan? - sp) wearing a japanese scabbard on his kirpan just like mine.

and the curly pointed shoes worn by Sikh horsemen (traditional) serve the same as american cowboy boots which are curled upward and pointed to ease getting the foot in the stirrup. Most history books here credit the stirrup to 1120? the battle of Hastings, but old chinese horsemen had them on sculptures burried a thousand years before again the stirrup seems to have been invented in India.Allenwalla 11:34, 17 October 2007 (EDT) Read so much Sikh history, That Guru Nanak came visiting my dreams last nite and later changed into my father. Dream many nites as if in India, Kashmir, lake Dal. Last nite (dream) I was looking at the entry to the Akal Takht and remarking that the (carvings?) patterns matched those on Ranjit Singh's Golden Gaddi. Someday I hope to see the real thing.

Thanks for getting back to me and your effort looking for that phrase

i have a stream flowing by my house, probably smaller than a Tawi. i will attempt to recite a poem learned when i was10 years old, by Sidney Lanier. Its about a river that flows through Georgia and starts in the hills where my parents came from. your story reminded me of the poem by Sidney Lanier

Song of the Chattahoochee (a river)
Out of the hills of Habersham, (Habersham and Hall are counties)
Down the valleys of Hall,
I hurry amain to reach the plain,
Run the rapid and leap the fall,
Split at the rock and together again,
Accept my bed, or narrow or wide,
And flee from folly on every side

There are several rivers here in the mtns. 2 of which have many large boulders which as the water hits them and churn up the milky white foam. saw this Gurdwara on the site today, is this a 'standard' Sikh Gurwara, it like the Mandir you told me about has a very fancy web site with flying birds, the outward mimic of the Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar is certainly a departure from standard Shikara (Mt. Meru) Hindu Mandirs.

proud of you Sarbjeet ji, i had just read hill chiefs for probably the 100rth time is all my books and in all the articles i have read on Guru Gobind Singh's battles every one always says 'hill chiefs' i was just thinking /wondering if people meant the Hindu Rajas or Rajputs? I remember reading of the Guru making a large drum called Ranjit, which someone was worried would bother 'the hill chiefs', the picture in my mind came up of some chief of some dacoit gangs as in Sholay, thanks

Baba Sri Chand

Sarbjeet ji, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

Nice to hear from you. May the Lord continue to bless you at all times.

I accept that the picture may not conform with Sikhi principles but I think that is to be expected. If Baba ji was a follower of Sikhi, he would not be have formed the Udasi movement. Baba ji is known as the founder of this movement and I think that as their leader the follower of that movement are the ones whose perception of Baba ji is likely to be acceptable to all. Just as the picture of Guru Nanak are "approved" by the Sikh majority, so the pictures of Baba Sri Chand have to be "approved" by the Udasi movement. As Sikhs, we cannot project Sikhi values on Baba ji. Only the Udasi movement can project their values into these pictures - see sikh-heritage.co.uk. It must be accepted that Baba ji was actually not a Sikh as he started his own sect instead of following his father, Guru Nanak.

Splitting of the article Baba Farid: I think keeping the two together may have some merits at present as it is not very clear who contributed to SGGS and whether the facts are conclusive. In the long run, after research, when more material is available, the split can be made as the article may get too big. I do not have any strong views on this but splitting at present will just divide attention to two pages, both dealing with the same issue. Guru rakha, kind regards, Hari Singh 13:35, 26 October 2007 (EDT)

must be early there that was my suspition thanks, re WaKaFa, sent noteAllenwalla 21:57, 26 October 2007 (EDT)

Technically, we don't need any pictures. But as they say - "A picture is worth a 1000 words". A picture can tell a "complex story" or "may be more influential than a substantial amount of text". Here by just looking at a picture, you can tell that the person is not a Sikh in form; is not a householder; is a yogi and ascetic, etc, etc. It tells a complex story quickly. Also, it makes it easier, quicker, more attractive, is in lazy man's territory, it poses questions in the mind, etc. If there was no picture, we would not have this interest in the article - so I believe that pictures do help even if they are not totally correct - It is just someone imagination - These pictures are not a historical record - they are mainly symbolic.
I hope this helps you to understand my point of view although I don't expect you to agree with it. We use pictures and images to help to understand the world around us - I think that this applies to articles here. I don't think the picture is totally wrong, in which case we would remove it. But it is plausible and it is how the Udasi movement advertises "their leader". Guru rakha, Hari Singh 21:54, 26 October 2007 (EDT)

Yes, it appears that we lost a little bit of work when the server went down and some parts of messages got through while others did not. I think I had done the merging of Anandu and anand - I must have written to you at that stage to inform you about the merge - Unfortunately, that work has been lost - so I have to do that again!! I hope that explains the position.

Problem solving

SSA, Sarjeet ji, if only i could solve all my problems so easily. i guess i had mixed Banda Bahadur in my head as i had not percieved Bahadur being attached to Baba Deep Singh's name thanks! Had listened to Kabirs Parbhati while rewriting some yesterday or day before on Bandi Chhhor, to nite we listened to the Harmandir radio cast was surprised today to notice while researching Baba Deep Singh that the tile is shaped like a large stop sign (here in the US) the place which marks where his head landed. while trying to find the tile and its location i noticed the map of Harmandir Sahib is inaccurate on wikipedia. Photos and directions are miss-labled. on the sikhiwiki article you pointed out i tried to write the location correctly as the line (on it) was taken straight from someones site and didn't make sense since the sentences before were not included—so i said just south of the northeast corner but according to Google earth that corner is almost directly south at about 5:00o'clock instead of south at 6:00 just around the corner from the entry with the langar. thanks for the 2 pix. allenwalla

information for you

Who says that Baba deep singh killed Wazir khan. Well if there anything like this written in any of article you are supposed to delete it. Wazir Khan was killed by Banda Singh Bahadur when Banda singh bahadur attacked on sirhind aftermath of killing of Young Sahibzadas of guru gobind singh jee. Banda singh want to destroy Wazir khan and when banda singh attacked sirhind Banda singh was killed over there(its not sure banda singh or any other singh from that fightout killed wazir khan) but the credit goes to Banda Singh Bahadur. and its said Wazir khan was killed with an arrow and when arrow was moving towards wazir khan wazir khan last words was " Oh my god Guru's teer(arrow), from where it comes". Its said that that arrow was shooted by Banda Singh.

Conclusion Wazir khan was killed when Baba Banda SIngh attacked sirhind i dunno know date or year read from banda singh's article.

Baba Deep singh is not et all related with attcking on sirhind he is related with saving the pride of sikhism harimandir sahib when ahmed shah abdali durani attacked amritsar.

I think your problem is solved know that killing of wazir khan is not et all related to baba dep singh. thanks..........Lucky

I just added a few things i could find you probably have much more knowledge than i can even find / the articles i found say the building was destroyed others say it was damaged like all internet stuff it may be accurate, old, wrong or a typo, so as i enjoy your writing complete the article, please. i perhaps am a better editor than initiator at least that is the way it has been.

Sometimes...say yesterday when reading of Haris Chandra or when i hear Hari (as in Harmandir Sahib) i wonder about the name Harry. If you look it up in a western dictionary you will find no mention of the Indian source, it is that way for most words. So last nite while looking for / For Harry England and St. George-the old english war cry. i found this from Shakespeare's play:

This day is called the feast of Crispian:
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say "To-morrow is Saint Crispian":
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars.
And say "These wounds I had on Crispin's day."
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember with advantages
What feats he did that day: then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words
Harry the king, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remember'd.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

Change the name of the Saint or date of the battle or the warriors' names and you could see this as Maharaja Ranjit Singh lamenting his once friend who had died in bed instead of on the battlefield.

the stories all of you are /have/will write here will speak What feats they did that day: then shall their names and deeds remain alive when men have no need of wars and the young (warriors of His light) can remember their forefathers and mothers who worked to bring peace and end evil.

Henry V fought and won the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, the quote is from Shakespeare. In Old English it takes several readings.

SSA, Sarbjeet this is a copy of a note i sent to Sardar Hari Singh (i remember him writing about going to India in Dec. so am also sending you a copy with the same questions i hope one of you can help with, today i saw and excellent short article on Alexander Gardner, an officer in Maharaja's Ranjit Shingh's Khalsa Army, on the Sikh news page. The article on SikSangat.org has a brief story and two very clear pictures. These are the best photos i have seen taken from that era.

G. Grey in the article on his travels in Punjab says he was a fake who made up his stories. i have read a long book in which his exploits were very detailed. with some references which make me believe the man did serve in the Khalsa. in one story he recounts his first day meeting Ranjit Singh when a Sikh risaldari challenged him, in a test of bravery, by riding his horse straight at him. As i have read of a Pathani who returned to Wazirastan, going to the town where all the guns are made, who had his manhood tested, as he had been warned would happen, when a snake charmer threw one of his snakes at him to see 'if he showed fear; i can believe that the Khalsa risaldari would do a similar test on a farengi to test his mettal. He also reports troops of Ghulab Singh being detached with a charge of gunpowder to the gateway that Nau Nihal Singh walked under during its sudden collaspe on his return from his father's cremation. Thirdly he mentions defending the Royal family at Lahore during the attack by Gulab Singh Dogra's brother and Sher Singh. In ref. to this attack he mentions Sher Singh putting out an as he says "old Punjabi battle cry or slogan to the effect of bring yourself and five cousins to share the glory and booty to be gained by taking Lahore — roughly akin to the cry for help of the jihadists who use the Qu'ran to get help in laying spoil to their enemies. You i am sure recall this .

All of this plus the new story makes me believe in the man's tales as the truth. Today i added a page on him, i would like to add the photos on the Sikhiwiki story for all to see.

My request is in 3 parts -

   1. i do not know how to download a photo, only recently learned to link a photo in art. on SGGS
   2. can we use the photos in the SikhSangat.org story
   3. the photo of Gardner surrounded by Khalsa soldiers is very clear and Strangely has large Helvetica bold initials in caps( R S S ) printed over the photo in very Bold text in light gray letters? I have to wonder about the letters almost hidden in this way?

Please check the story, and let me know if you can help, as i would like to add extra info Allenwalla 12:16, 5 December 2007 (MST)thanks

for the Golden Temple / Prakash: schedule for the SGGS, i had a suspician it was ligh or day

if i said orthodox i was quoting the Sikh encyclopedia, as here orthodox is not understood as having to do with age but rather for the people or group that started a particular religion and continue to practise it, i.e. Sikhs who do the 5 K's, believe in the 10 living Gurus and hold that the SGGS is now the Guru of the Sikhs on earth and WaheGuru as well. when i signed the letter with WaKaFa the other nite it was the first time i had managed to get it correct from memory. did you hear from the Sethi family there is, you probably know, a large page on wiki as well. christmas is almost upon us our anniversary is the 24th Christmas eve . Thanks for the holiday wishes

Ann is now home and walking around some and feeling pretty good. Sorry that the time of the holiday is associated with the bad days when Anandpur was anything but Anand. How is the loss of the Guru's sons and mother acknowledged, what events go on, special services, moments of silence, etc?

The gift giving that goes on here is as you saw in the internet site associated with old pagan rituals of celebrating the 'rebirth' of the sun or surya or it of itvar, aftab, etc. when the sun which seemed to be shining less and less towards a certain death when suddenly the days grew longer and longer once again becoming a reason for hope , rebirth and celebration, a few days at least when people forgot their petty quarrels and celebrated the brotherhood of all.

Lights of course are put up on trees in most homes and some homes are festooned with lights as one sees the homes of Punjabis lit up during a wedding or many of theGurdwaras for many occassions.

Ann told me she saw a little bit more of the program i told you of and that a prominent leader of each religion was interviewed and spoke of his daily life. WaheGuru ji ka Khalsa, WaheGuru ji Ki Fateh!Allenwalla 14:31, 25 December 2007 (MST)Jo Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akaal.

in an article i started today they refer to Hari Singh Nalwa as the 'Ney of Punjab'.

i find two things for ney

1. Marshal Ney one of Napoleon's best generals. in that case it would have been been said by Avitabile or a european in Ranjit Singh's army.

2. a trap or anything made to work as a trap / that is exactly what Nalwa was intending to do with the Afgans - get them in a trap between the many forts he established. thanks have a good dayAllenwalla 17:05, 10 January 2008 (MST)

What do you think

Just your view. An inspiration of Guru nanak has founded in Istanbul turkey, its just on west part of turkey,To reach there Guru nanak have to travel through Jordan, Israel, plaestine, Syria and in return he reached azerbaizan in russia then enters iraq, Iran, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan & Pakistan to his native. Well my first question Guru nanak if travel by foot how much day it takes to cover so long journey???

  • How he reached mecca?? From Karachi he took boat and reached jeddah or he travveled along sea shore oman, yemen then saudi????
  • One more thing enters my mind Khuhram shahr guru nanak went and that is on south of iran if guru nanak went baghdad in iraq and went there on south of iran then why he go to north in tehran or masshad............and if he went from baghdad to north of iran then when he covered Khuhrm sehar and bushehar. West Journey is bit confusing.
  • Ok suppose from Medina in saudi he directly enter Baghdad in iraq and havent visit Turkey, russia or syria then also the above point rises. He visits mashad by many historians, He visit Khoram and bushsr by many historians and he visited Syria and palestine also by many historians.

Due to Muslim countries they just washed away the guru nanak's related places or material. No inspiration in Mecca, Medina, Jeddah, Russia, Afghanistan even(Hail Taliban). Instances found in Iran, Iraq, Turkey and others are just vanished or washed. route is bit confusing to me

What your mind says..........user:hpt_lucky

Do you know where the statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh ji is located and if it is wax or paper mache.

the Gaddi of gold had extensions (sword rests?) with the actual one in london having dangling chords with knots. It seemed from photos to be ind 2 parts with the base having handles with which to carry it.Allenwalla 21:34, 13 February 2008 (MST)i have seen drawings from the time but he is never in the golden chair or throne or Gaddi/ articles say he never had a throne.

Hi Sarabjeet ji see you are busy

They have new medicine to try starting tomorrow have high hopes, seems you have been a regular flurry of a contributor lately have enjoyed several of the stories i have caught the one on Gilgut today had much i had not of other dimensions on that event i hope you are soon adding more of the story.

HPT_lucky added a picture of a Gurdwara in Peshawar today one of the most beautiful ones i have seen.

It was unclear if he was thre or if he was doing the interview. He also added details of a trip by GurNanak and Bhai Mardana with the Padishah of the Ottoman empire to europe to meet Martin Luther, the monk who defied the Pope and started the reformation along with meeting Kepler all the details were sketchy would like to see sources as i have heard of no one of the europeans of the time who could speak or read Persian then. The Emperor would have had a court diarist who would have recorded ever day's event and i have never heard of any of this before, old books in Canadian libraries are sourced - the very place many articles condemn as flase scholars on Sikh history, this before but dates do check on all alive at same time. would like to see research.

Some people claim that Jesus was never crucified and traveled to Jammu & Kashmir where he lived and died, there is suposed to be a monument or some such there.

was reading a site last nite called the Mewar encylopedia on the net. very interesting it had many definitions and one notable thing was that each govenor of a mughal territory had , i forget the term, another lord attached of equal rank who handled the money and daily reports of any events in the area. this person was also the one who commanded the army but did not take to the field as a soldier. must get some sleep now. take care Allenwalla 23:09, 20 February 2008 (MST)its 1:07 here with cold predicted to return tomorrow.

Thanks for E-card, the Anjali or 'praying hands' now there's a story to tell. Just got through writing to _Lucky of my problems with Islam and here you go working on a nice article about the Sufis, which i will read tomorrow as its too late and i'm too tired to read now. Are their any more Sufis today, have a good dayAllenwalla 23:12, 28 February 2008 (MST)Spent 2 hours today in a small tube called and MRI -- bang, bang roar roar , wizz, bam. bam went to sleep most of the time, thank goodness for earplugs.

Yes but!

I too respect respect Islam as practised by by Muslim friends - one of piece like the Sufis of old.

I was only making a comment on the people who are still justifying killing innocent people in an effort to have their version of Allah who wishes them to kill, torture and destroy any who does not convert to Islam , for as they say this they say --- we will kill them, wipe them from the earth - Allah willing. and then call Allah mercifull and forgiving. These are the same fanatics who murdered Guru Arjan, Guru Tegh Bahadur, the big and little holocaust, Bhanda Bahadur, Baba Deep Singh and the fourty cart loads of Sikh heads carried to Delhi. As they did this then they do so today. Benazir Bhutto was only a recent example. It's these or their form of Islam that I think must be resisted. A peaceful Islam as practised by millions I respect as do you and Harpreet. thanksAllenwalla 09:58, 29 February 2008 (MST)

SSA, 2 questions

1. what is a metaled road exactly. in WWII Seabees (US Navy Engineers and const. units layed metal perfed panels on sandy Pacific islands for runways for aircraft. are the roads actually metal would it not rust and corrode away in J & K.

2. Nepal seems to have some severe rules not allowing citizenship to children born there. Do you have and inkling of the idea the Sikh in the trucking business is talking of/ a sentence seems to be missing.

Have a good day SirAllenwalla 22:17, 10 March 2008 (MDT)

See your many contributions

In the story on Sikhs in Nepal, 2nd paragraph - It is this belief - no belief is mentioned. just wondering what belief the Sardar was referring to.

Others soon followed—relatives, cousins, and like-minded youths. “I liked the place. I thought I’d stay for a couple of years,” says Mahinder Singh who came two years later. A BSc graduate from Jammu Kashmir University, the 63-year-old driver and transport entrepreneur has been here for forty years.

It is this belief that has made it possible for Sikhs all over to adapt easily to new environs and to spread all over,” says Rupy Singh, a pioneer of pre-school education in Nepal. “My brother-in-law Pritam Singh and my husband Darshan, were, in a way, repeating history. Their father and uncle, before them, had led the Sikh community from the Pakistan part of Poonch to the Jammu and Kashmir side of Poonch during Partition and started the transport business there.”

Thanks for the new words and pics, i finlly got back to the Moti Mahal page and added a few lines. Have a good day thanks for the explanation on metaled roads. here we call the same 'a paved road"\' - same process/ in England its called a Macadam road. we still say Tarmac for runways at airports. regards Allenwalla 19:30, 11 March 2008 (MDT)

Metalled road

In reading the Chittisinghpura Massacre, which was in the recent changes list, i can see why i asked about the metalled road a few days back. richard

Changed story to show results you spoke of

Sat Shri Akaal, Sarbjeet ji, since you are the local source and know of the follow up was a second test made to confirm the tampering. Other than being suspended have there been any charges of murder for the innocent people kidnapped and killed in the staged shoot out or mortar barrage. Or has this been swept under the rug like the attacks after the killing of the Prime Minister. richard

Did find this

Sir, The relatives of the five murdered villagers held a series of demonstrations for public exhuming of the bodies; A crowd of five thousand unarmed civilians at Brakpora was fired upon by the police; Nine more men died; When the bodies were finally exhumed, they were discovered to have been burnt and defaced, but curiously dressed in brand new army fatigues. They were identified by the relatives as the local villagers who went missing. Initial attempts in DNA testing of the exhumed bodies were compromised by fudging of the DNA samples in a cover-up attempt by the authorities; Later results indicated that the five persons killed by the Indian forces were indeed civilians and that Indian forces engaged in a deliberate subterfuge to portray them as "foreign" militants responsible for the Sikh massacre.

But no mention of any charges, richard

Guru dah pyara, Sarbjeet Singh ji,

The pictures that you have done for the above event look excellent. Many thanks for doing these for the sangat. There is not a lot to improve on but as you asked so kindly to make comments for improvement, then with great deal of thinking I can only say 2 little things:

  • 1. To complement the wide pictures of the sangat, one or two more individual or "near shot" would make for a better range of pictures.
  • 2. I find that with the sun behind you when taking picture as against in front of you, gives better lighting and clarity.

These are not very important things but it may help make the photos even more interesting.

Many thanks for the wonderful work. Please write a few lines about where this was - state, district, town & street and also which days or dates. I am most grateful to you for the darshan of the Guru's tour. Hari Singh 16:51, 8 April 2008 (MDT)

Guru ang sang rhann. I am most grateful to you young Sikhs of the Guru in India who are vigorously promoting the message of the Guru. With your efforts and the hard work of all the various other writers of our young history, the message of the Gurus is finally starting to reach some parts of the world.

There is still a lot of work to be done because the Guru's message is deep and the world is so big. But Malik is helping us all. Please Bhai sahib ji, you know the truth about SikhiWiki and the contributors to this site. As the "oldest" "administrator"/"moderator" of this site almost since it started, I can say that 3HO has no editorial control of this site. All writers/users/contributors make independent contributions to the site. I have only banned users who have clearly abused the rules. The history of these banned users is there in the pages of history of SikhiWiki. I have nothing against 3HO or any other organisation or person who is trying to help people in whatever positive way possible!

Bhai sahib ji, let us stay focused on the Guru's mission and try and help promote the beautiful work of our Gurus. There is no better thing that can be done in the world. Let's explain the true message of the Gurus; their principles; their ideas; their history, their strength; their loving qualities, etc. If we can pass on even 10% of the Guru's message to the world; much peace and happiness will result. "...the fog of ignorance will be lifted and the world will be enlightened!"

Keep up the good work; be loving on these forums; be true messengers of the Guru; don't ever have any anger for your fellow contributors; always have respect for them; remember that we are doing this work for the Gurus - be humble; be polite; be forgiving! Hi Sarbjeet ji

SSA, Spent most of the day at the hospital, happily Ann's test showed her heart to be in good condition. Time for taps. Do you know about taps, the tune played in the Army camps for 'lights out.'

Its relation to alcohol, of which i see you are writing. Regards to all richard Taps is also played when a soldier dies at the funeral, when one's light has gone out.

Hi Sarbjeet ji

SSA, i see you are up now and online did you look at my questions on why you would want to remove an article which let me and others know what the RSS was and what they are/have been /still are upto. Seems like a good article to keep. Also noticing your article on the Sikh Actor i added another which has had positive press here on the big networks a young Sikh who has a gaint poster ad NYC. In the poster the photographer has posed him in a way used for Snoop Dawg. I have read he is popular with Sikh youth. One might think him not the best role model, but he and a several other 'rappers' have been actively reforming their images and doing many good works now. Please check the article.

Also the article that just got removed on the alchohol study did report that moderate use seemed to have a positive effect, but i did not see it boosting alcohol's use. As such studies usualy point out that one small a burra peg or less is all one should drink. for those who drink that would not boost but greatly reduce most people's use.

Of course for a Sikh following Bani and Rehat, any would be too much. The stuff is a poison anyway. I did see the article as positive telling any Sikh stupid enough to use it or anyone else that more than a minor amount is dangerous.

Where are the rules of Sikhiwiki to be found? The name Sharaab itself is intriging Shah and Raab, i guess the Nihangs who argue for its (Bhaang's) use, as an old tradition, think of it as the name reflects the same way the Sadhus thought of Bhaang as well.

As children we all, assuming you as well, loved to spin and get the 'intoxicating effect' which the Sufis perfected to get in touch with God.

I guess that, as Guru Nanak said The Fear of You, Vaheguru, is my Bhaang (or Sharaab, as well). The the Bhaang or Sharaab, whose stimulation never ends.

Take care, Raab Rakaah, Regards to all. richard

Manpreet Singh

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh Sarbjeet Singh ji,

Thanks for the suggestion, it is most appreciated - I agree with you but having looked at the article, I think it needs a little more on him and the industry in general to make the grade. I don't think we should feature it just because he is a Sikh; a little more wider coverage would help - I will work on it soon and then put this on.

Hope all is well with yourself and your family. Please pass my kind regards to all, Hari Singhtalk 14:35, 10 May 2008 (MDT)

And goodnight

Just saw you are on as well boy that Harbans Singh can say a mouthful, will have to read this once more, more slowly as i was only able to speed read half fixing quotes to appear as in edit box.

2 stories with Patkas today / different- good vs. evil. A young Sikh in Atlanta pictured with Patka like JD who is thinking the same way as i am - oneness and another tonoght with a Jersey youth having his Patka lit on fire by some stupid prankster.

The Sikh teen Angad Singh, your last post on the article re films and Sikhs- is a finalist and can't attend the festival as his mother can't travel w/ him / father not mentioned. He appeared front page with a Photo in Patka-when you clicked the story he was surrounded by other nonsikh students -- a picture of harmony; then some poor ignorant New Jersey kid messes up a young Sikhs life, hopefully he will be able to put it behind him soon and realize he was dealing with a soul which has gotten taught some darkness - who hopefully will learn better one day. Time to get some sleep. Rabb Rakah / richard

Chota veerji, I am most grateful for you kind words and heartfelt concern. With Guru's blessings papaji is now a lot better than he was last week.

Papaji has for 20 years been suffering from hypertension and has been on tablets to reduce his bp. Mamaji and Papaji are both about 78 and stay nearby and have been in very good health until about 3 weeks ago when Papaji fell due to very low blood pressure. Subsequently, we went to the hospital as an emergency but they could not find anything wrong. However, they stopped his bp tablets completely as they suspect that this may be resulting in the very low bp. Since then his bp is stable but he is still very unsteady on his feet. I have been staying at Papaji's place since then and monitoring his health.

He is very slowly making progress. Please do ardas for his well being. I am sure with Waheguru's bakshish, all will be well. I will keep SikhiWiki friends informed of Papaji's health. regards, Hari Singhtalk 21:59, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

AgA onor^honhas / this seems miss-spelled from page Aghori

The term agA onor^honhas passed into popular Punjabi usage standing for one who is indolent of habit and indifferent in matters of personal hygiene and cleanliness.

Sat Shri Akal, Veerji, Haven't seen you much here of late. I saw this word in a page today the term seems miss spelled but is susposed to be a Punjabi word now, do you know how to spell it correctly.

How are you and your family. We have picked 2 quarts of big rasberries even though the garden experts say they don't grow well in the south. Many more ripen every day. The Blue berries are just ripening we usually get 5-10 gallons of them every year.

Regards Richard

Nice to hear from you after a long time

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh Sarbjeet Singh ji,

Chota veer, thank you for the massage. Family is keeping very well but papa ji still has a little problem with his back; but with the grace of the Guru, he is getting better daily.

It is great to hear from you and see your name on the 'recent changes' list and your positive involvement in monitoring the activities of new users - thanks for sending a message to the user regarding the removal of contents from an article.

I hope things went well on your journey out of state and that the journey was fruitful. We missed you and I hope we will see your valuable contributions to the Guru's work whenever you find some spare time. I hope all the family is keeping well. Raab rakha, Hari Singhtalk 23:26, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Haven't heard much from you

Sure that everyone was wondering what had happened to you. Rebellion seems a strange word for a child's tee.

Thought that I had read that Sikhs loved ones ashes were added to rivers wasn't sure. Think I read this while working on the article on Beant Singh and Satwant Singh. In that case the autorities forced the families to carry the ashes to Hardvar if i remember correctly, so I wasn't sure--thanks.

Re Golden Temple

SSA, Sarbjeet ji , glad to see you still have power, i read that all the tv and radio stations were shut down.

I am not suggesting any name change. I am one of the few non Indians that i know who have ever heard the temples Punjabi name. I think it is foolish for the commitee to ban the use of the name. I can only assume this ban is meant to be for Sikhs and not the outside world.

If it weren't for Golden Temple redirecting to the page I would not have been able to find it. Now i have learned the name, but many people of the world do not know it. For American and English tourists not having Golden temple beside the correct name on maps and roadsigns could cause much hardship. Putting the English translation - God's Temple - might also cause hurt to people who think their places of worship are God's houses as well, but would never call one by that name.

The Golden Temple is known all over the world, I imagine it is almost as popular as the Taj Mahal is, it is certainly as well known around the world thanks to the English name for it.

The Ersatz Hindu version of the Mandir near the train station could now latch onto the name and put signs up for it since the Sikh body has prohibited its use and it too is covered in Gold.

Tonight i have spent more than four hours redrawing the map which still says Golden Temple to meet their wishes, the credit at the bottom is to the SPGC?

Just seemed silly to me I never expected its name to be changed or even used on the Gurdwara. It to me seemed to be in the same realm, of having the Hindutva Groups demand that all references and signs which said - INDIA - would now have to say Bharat. Take care. richard

Swarn Mandir

Singh is Kinng

Khalsa Sarbjeet ji,

Thank you for your message. I accept that a Khalsa should have full hair but if you look at reality, then one has to accept that many Sikhs do not keep full hair. I have many relatives who consider themselves Sikhs but do not keep full hair. So what do we call them? Surely they are still Sikhs? kind regards, Hari Singhtalk 04:56, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Apples falling far from their trees

SSA, Sarbjeet ji, thanks for the translation and good to see you are all safe in Jammu. Had read of the many trucks being stopped as the crowds tossed their loads of apples off. It's apple season here too in the GA mountains. Here many apple orchards have roadside buildings and people excape the heat of the flatlands surrounding Atlanta and travel to the hills to get a sack of apples. We don't have people stopping the trucks, but the high gas prices have cut deeply into the numbers of people making the mountain trips. And every thing just keeps raising in price daily.

Food prices must be going up there as well. regards , richard

Hi and thanks

I hadda run outta house this am. missed yr note. Thanks for the article on the statue, long over due, as is one on his uncle, perhaps a little shorter though as he was not as famous. I added some, please read and edit if needed. I don't know if this is the same Gill that some seem to dislike a lot for his part in the 80's era. richard

moving to Akhand or just driving their?

Hi Sarbjeet

I just noticed you had tagged the second article on Ajit Singh for deletion, please hold off as the page has some good info ( the stuff on primogeniture, which I think is still common in Punjab?) i had not seen while researching the other page, again thanks for letting me see the news as I had not seen anything on this story. Hope the page meets your approval. Hari ji added a photo which Lucky had added elsewhere and tagged as a painting. I think this is a portion of the real photo which can be seen at [[2]]. It even has a picture of the man who was responsible for him returning to his religious roots, i think. some one has of course colorized portions of the photo. Have a great day! richard

A photo you may not have seen yet.

Sarbjeet ji, [3] Check out the amazing photo of the Harmandar Sahib - it is better on the Google Earth site as it fills your monitor. You may already be aware of this amazing photo.

Has life returned to normal yet and how is working after so many days off.? Allenwalla 03:27, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Wigets

Glad you enjoyed the gigapan photo, still blows me away/ you could never see the details like this even if you were there. Of course there is much more you could see. I wish someone would shoot a panorama from the other side/end. The person with the site has instructions on how to do this. Someone with a good camera needs to read how to do this and make a similar picture for the other half. Glad to hear things are returning to normal in J & K.

Installed a widjet (free share ware) works on apple panther system which gives me a picture of where the sun is lighting the earth at the press of a button and it's now 'coming up' in Africa. Another lets me see all the weather radar across america also. Have a good day say hi to all, richard.

Hello Sarbjeet ji

I noted last nite that Mohan Singh Sethi was mentioned in the Excelsior - any relation?

Gurdwara Thara Sahib, Kalampura - in this page their is mention of Guru ji coming to hunt. Guru Gobind Singh?

We got to CA at 12:00 fri nite left Sun. 6:00am. quick trip. How is everyone? richard

Dad's condition is serious

My dear SikhiWiki friend,

I am sorry to say that Dad is very seriously ill due to a heart attack at 1am this morning at the local hospital and is on life support. Please pray for him so that he does not suffer in his journey that may be left on this planet. We do not know if he will make it but hope that Waheguru will bless him as best as he deserves. Unfortunately, I will not be at home until things get resolved one way or the other but I will let you know as soon as there is any development for the better or for the worse. I thank you for your concern about his well being. May the Guru bless you all. Regards, Hari Singhtalk 22:02, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Many thanks for your heartfelt messages. With Waheguru's blessings, Dad is still in the same critical condition. The ITC are doing their best to help him but situation is pretty difficult and there are many hurdles to overcome. They say that the heart attack was very severe and that it is not functioning efficiently or pumping the required amount of blood around the body. The pulse keeps jumping higher to increase the blood flow but due to damage to the heart this is not helping.

Prayer seems to be the only avenue open to us. They say they will keep trying to maintain a reasonable pulse and blood pressure to see if the heart muscle "recovers". Kidneys are also suffering due to the low blood flow and not extracting enough toxins from the body as required.

Only the Lord can remedy all these problems. I will keep you posted as best as possible. Many thanks for your kindness and concern. regards, Hari Singhtalk 00:26, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

I am sorry to say that Dad has left this world

My dear SikhiWiki friend,

Unfortunately, I have to give you very sad news that Dad passed away on Friday, 17 October 2008. The doctors tried their best to help him but it seems that his moment to leave had arrived. I am sorry that I could not communicate this sad fact to you earlier.

The whole of the family and I would like to thank everyone especially you for your concern and deep interest in the outcome. Dad had suffered from hypertension for many years and although on medicine, it appears that his heart was gradually damaged and due to his age it could not continue to function. The left ventricle stopped functioning adequately and so it was impossible for him to carry on sustaining himself as enough blood was not being pumped around the body.

The funeral is on Monday, 27 October 2008 at 2.15pm local UK time. Please continue to pray for him if you can. Kind regards and my deepest appreciation for your caring thoughts and keen concern, Hari Singhtalk 22:27, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Marah chotaa veer ji,
Thank you so much for such kind words. I am most grateful for having the company of such God loving friends. As you say, chotaa veer, we are all in the long queue to leave this world but we do not know when our time will be up. May Waheguru bless you for taking the time to pray for us all and may He grant easy passage to our departed loved one. Many regards, Hari Singhtalk 10:54, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Some few details

Mahant Mangal Singh ji

Sarbjeet could you add a few details on why you have posted this photo on this Sardar. What where when.

thanks Allenwalla 14:17, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the comments

re Singh is Kinng. I will have to bone upon my Punjabi as i can't read most of them. The one bit I can get is about Ishmeet Singh who in all the pictures I have seen seemed to have a short beard. Maybe he did the twirl and tuck twisty thing that looks like a 'trimmer'.

Seems almost as if he is being idolized now, but I guess we won't see little dolls of him like was common here in the US when fans went so wild for Elvis that his dolls sold by the millions. The difference between a sculpture and an idol is a question. The recent page on a Gurdwara being built in San Diego --the story had a line saying there would be no sculptures or idols in the Gurdwara. It seemed almost as if it was the same as the Muslim hatred for sculpture or images of any living thing--hence the taliban blowing up film stores. Of course it is only Catholic churches that have the sculptures of Jesus, as most protestant churches have nothing more than a cross on a wall here or there.

I wonder if the taliban hate cameras and photography as well. Hard for me to believe that people (all wedding singers and music at weddings were and still are being banned along the border in the tribal areas and barbers being first threatened and then killed if they didn't leave). A wedding without ganabajana seems awful to me. richard

Did you get out and vote?

Sat Sri Akal, Sarbjeet ji, how is everyone? Thanks for the note, just try to build the ability to sit for a few hours each day in a spurt here and there.

We were delighted to see that there has been little violence in the election and that despite the separatists calling for a boycott on voting north of you the Kashmiris' really got out and voted. Sad to see that the first snow caught several people in a deadly avalanche, what exactly is a porter. Here the term means baggage carriers.

And how about that Indian Navy the Battle Ax (INS Tabar) is all over the news today. Other than Maharaja Ranjit Singh's river boat he had his european officers design I have never read anything about a Sikh or Sikhs being in the Navy.

Also on the tombstones at the The Menin Gate in Ieper (netherlands?) engraved on Sikh graves (WWII or I) is the phrase Ik Oankar Siri Waheguru ji Ke Fateh Sanskare Gaye could you translate that for me?

On the Hindu Graves (Gurkas mostly) is the phrase - Om Bhagwattee Nammo. could you translate that also?

Thanks , hope all are well, Richard

With the Guru's grace, all is well with the family and myself. Many thanks for asking. I hope this message finds you and your family in the best of health and in chardikala. I have blocked the vandal as per your request. It is amazing hope people can stoop to such low level of behaviour. Many thanks again for keeping an eye on the activity at SikhiWiki. Orkut.com

Sarbjeet Singh ji, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

Thank you, chotta veer for the message and kind words. Hope you and the whole family are keeping in chardikala.

Following your message, I have joined the SikhiWiki community at Orkut that you recommended. Let us see how Waheguru wants us to develop in this arena. I hope you agree with me that it is our duty to make sure everyone is aware of the Guru's main message and then it is up to them to take the next step.

How much work has been done on Orkut regarding Sikhi by you and others? I see there are other Sikh communities there. Do they have any penetration into non-Sikh nations as well or is it just India or just Punjab that these sites address. I believe that if a person can read and write Gurmukhi, then he or she does not need SikhiWiki. They have a direct access to the Guru and Sikh history and if they have the desire, they could connect directly with the Guru.

On the other hand, there are billions of people who do not even know the word "Sikhi". I believe that it is these people, who do not read and write Gurmukhi or even understand Punjabi that are the primary target of SikhiWiki. I wonder if you have any views on this? Guru dee fateh, Hari Singhtalk 15:33, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

thanks Mera yaar

Sir, It took me a few minutes to understand your reference - Deepak - a type of raga and -son - kanra / it was the hidden (a) - pronounced but not written as kanara that fooled me.

also I have another question, in the story on Hans Raj Hans, there is a line: his surname 'Hans' (swan) due, probably, to his fair impressive look and his sweet singing voice like a 'Hans'.

his fair impressive look - is this a reference to his light complexion (swans are usually white, I guess)- looking at the picture I thought he was one of the New Mexico Sikhs, but it says he was born to a peasant family, has golden curly hair and their is no mention of his being a Sikh but is Punjabi.

Also do swans sing in a pleasant voice on the other side of the world? Here there are a mated pair that swim in the lake next to my father's grave and I've yet to hear them sing. -R

Hope the elections going well

Sarbjeet, and all others looking in we are once again in CA. This time just in time for the swine flue scare. I just wanted to say hello to all. Thanks to Hari ji and the memory of Hari Singh Nalwa, I got onto the net last night to see the drawing i had done of the general on the main page. I told my mother in law and nieces - look here is a picture that I drew, no one would believe me. We hope to get to the Gurdwara in Yuba City, just up the road.

Ann has been laid off from work so expenses are tight. Hope the violence that has occurred in Kashmir during elections stays away from Jammu and all are safe.

Seems the taleban were hoping to spread into Buner and Dir all of which I do not know the names of during the Sikh Raj. Today I read that after so many kidnappings, robberies, beheadings and wanton murders, even shaving the heads and mustaches of men because they were playing music and forcing young men to join them, the army caught Maulana fazlullah making plans to fool the army while they sneaked more men into the areas as they still pretended to be laying down their arms--all caught on tape in a telephonic conversation.today Subahdar Swartzeneggar declared Calf. a danger area over the spreading swine flu, but no problems here near Sac.

Solar Eclipse

Sat Siri Akaal Ji, Sarbjeet ji, I wish I was there so if the clouds permit, for in a few hours the biggest solar eclipse will happen, though you guys no longer believe in superstition it would still be an interesting sight. Here is a link on the article in the NY Times [[5]]. Delhi to Patna is apparently the line to be on to see the eclipse. I wonder if you all will be close enough to see some of the event.

Glad, I was to see you on the site yesterday or so, I was worried over your absence. Hope all are well.

Sikhs and Amrisar are well represented in the many beautiful pix. The one at Wagah is particularly touching, Pineapples appear to be as meaningful in India as they are in China. A fruit that also has a message or added meaning.

Hope everyone is enjoying the festivities. Allenwalla 18:16, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Bangalore

Sarbjeet ji, Have you been far south recently - are these your photos? This is the first Gurdwara where I have noted the platform for the ragis to the right of the Guru Granth Sahib, very unusual. Perhaps I have been unobservant. Allenwalla 02:11, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Happy New Year to all

See you are breaking up fights. the words were getting less than respectful.

Best wishes in the new year to all! / Allenwalla 06:58, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Guess i am the miss guided gora alluded to by my fellow user, or has gora become the title of NRSs outside of India - As Gen. Kayani said the other day all the waziris consider him (and most of the PAK army) to be white or gora, like many of the jats and katris - judging from statements on their blogs and websites. Such racism in so small a word.

We almost woke up today to a bad border incident - I wonder which side of the border Khalilullah - Baitullah's right hand man (ie Moon Market blast) – and a 17-year-old would-be suicide bomber, aka Shahbaz were planning to attack at the flag-lowering ceremony at the Wagah border today (Jan 1).

Happy New Year

Bhai Sahib ji

Many thanks for your good wishes; may Waheguru bless you all and shower His blessings on you and your family. Wishing you a wonderful New Year with lots of happiness, prosperity and good health.

I will look at Orkut more closely soon. Also, I will report the problem to the technical people but please use SikhiWiki.org in the meantime which is the more popular link to the website.

Many thanks for the wonderful hukamnama of the Guru. Kind regards, Hari Singhtalk 15:11, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Gurdwara Chatti Patshahi Bangla Sahib and Gurdwara Chatti Padshahi Rajouri

Bhai sahib ji, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

Bhai Allenwalla is working on combining these two articles. Can you please help explain what "Chatti" stands for. I can gather that it may relate to "Chhavee" ie 6th Guru but I know of no Punjabi word "chatti" which relates to 6? I will be most grateful for your help. Do you know of this Gurdwara? Perhaps we can see the name written in Gurmukhi?

Otherwise I hope all is well in the Sarbjeet family and that Guru's kirpa is everywhere. Guru dee fateh, Hari Singhtalk 09:46, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Good job

Sarbjeet ji, I would have asked you to combine the two articles, but I rarely see you on the see these days. It seems you have already improved the article with a new photo.

Here the hard drive on my computer has fried and I can't get to my e-mail. And I am now working on a ten year old (very slow) computer. I hope all is well with you and your family. I see that where it had looked like things were calming, new problems are springing up in Kashmir. Peace seems impossible, even in Azad Kashmir militants have been blowing people up and that part of Kashmir is already part of Pakistan.

Raab Rakhaa, Allenwalla 12:42, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Always nice to get a note

Sarbjeet ji, Always nice to get a note after sending a note to the other side of the world in seconds.. Thanks for the info. I will combine at your request. God Bless. Allenwalla 12:57, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

My friends from Hyderabad India use a program called skype to talk (live) to each other around the world. Do you have a camera on your computer? This old I-mac doesn't but hopefully we will be able to get the one with a camera fixed. That would be interesting to do. Ann has been talking to her sister in the other end of the country. Have a good day. or night - the sun is just coming up here. After years and years of drought, we now seem to be stuck in a monsoon, with day after day of heavy downpours.

Orkut - Mail

Bhai sahib ji,

On Orkut mail I could only send to one person. Is there a way to send to everyone - I have also put the message on my scrapbook - I don't know if everyone can see this? Is there anything more that can be done? Thanks, Hari Singhtalk 20:13, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

useful page

Sikh Rule and the Kashmiri Pandits Administrators

Sarbjeet ji, noticed you have been very active again. I came across this page when looking to cange a red link ref to Kashmiri Pandits for one of your pages. It has many names and some words for possible research and articles (please add defintions). I will have to investigate the link that sends a message to all-sounds like a time saving article.

Guru Fateh, Allenwalla 03:01, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Hello

Sarbjeet ji, the words are in red on the page I mentioned; I boxed them as in a link. They need definitions. I think the link brackets can then be removed as I doubt they need separate pages.

You may have some history around there for all the different Pandit Diwans in The page - many I had not seen before.
