Sysop Privledges

Narvroop Singh, You have been a very active user on SikhiWiki so I have assigned you as a "sysop" (System Operator) on SikhiWiki. This will allow you to edit "protected" pages (like the home page) and also do other administrative things as needed. It is great to have your involvement in this great project!

Mool Mantra

Navroop Singh, I have seen your work on the Mool Mantra and it looks very good. I took the liberty to added the Sikhi Stub and added a few lines for Gur Prasaad. I hope you don't mind. --Hari 15:44, 25 Apr 2005 (Pacific Daylight Time)

Raga page

WKWF, Thanks Navroop for your kind words of encouragement. I think putting page numbers is an excellent idea as it will make searching for each raga much easier. I will try and find the relevant page number details. Thanks again. --Hari 12:15, 27 Apr 2005 (Pacific Daylight Time)

Navroop, WKWF: Sorry, I have no idea of the reason why the Ragas are arranged in the order they apprear in the SGGS or if this relates to Raag timings or Mood or scale? I am sorry. However, I will ask a friend of mine whose kids are musicians. --Hari 13:11, 27 Apr 2005 (Pacific Daylight Time)

3HO / Yogi Bhajan

Unfortunately some people have nother better to do then cause trouble and spread negativity. The two articles (3HO and Yogi Bhajan) are particulary prone to attacks and blatent deletion of all content with Slanderous comments. I have reverted those articles many times already.

If things continue like this...It might be practical to just protect those pages from modifications...and add a note that if someone wants to contribute that they can add comments to the "Discussion" portion of the article for review.

Good Work!

You are doing a really great job on Sikhiwiki Navroop Singh! I just wanted to let you know and thank you for being a big part of the SikhiWiki project. We have been watching every day as you and Hari Singh add new content, re-organize and make things much better.

A few days ago we started featuring the "sikhiwiki featured article" on the homepage and since then over 1,200 people have been coming to the site every day, which is great. We will continue to feature new articles on SikhNet as you add them. It would be great if one of you could update the featured article on the Sikhiwiki home page every week. Also email me and Joginder Singh when you do so that we can also update the home page feature.

Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Gurumustuk Singh Khalsa

ps. If you know of others who might be interesting in helping with SikhiWiki please try to get them involved. The more people the more we can do.

Do you review changes made by other people?

I wanted to know if you look at the changes that others make to articles? Another thing that would be helpfull is to have more people reviewing the changes that are made by people to prevent "trouble makers" (deleting content or accidentally erasing info that should be there) and also to ensure the quality of content.

I do look from time to time...but I'm not on the site as much as you because of my other duties at SikhNet --gmustuk 15:12, 6 May 2005 (Pacific Daylight Time)

Mool Mantar

WKWF, I agree with you. I have been scanning the content of the Mool Mantar article frequently and it looks very good and should go in as the 'article of the week'. I don't have any other article in mind although I put the 'Guru Nanak' page as a secondary article on the main page a few days ago as there was emply space on the left hand frame. Go for it, Navroop! --Hari 04:29, 9 May 2005 (Pacific Daylight Time)

Hi Navroop, WKWF - You are right, I was working on this aspect of the site to see if I could group all the various articles together so that one could scan them without too much aggo. I thought it would be better to use the word 'Sakhis' as its widely used on the web and most users at this site would be aware of the word - or be prepared to learn it. Your input is much appreciated - I think 'Guru Nanak Sakhis' sounds great - I will change all these references and try the thread all the Sakhis together - I have also put a link from the main page to the Sakhis category page. I have tried to ring you - but the call went to voicemail - Perhaps you have not got the phone with you or something? Thanks for the positive feedback - I like the Mool Mantar article - Look good! --Hari 09:05, 9 May 2005 (Pacific Daylight Time)

Bhagat Painting

Navroop, WKWF

I will try and get the name of the painter & include that with the paintings. It appears that some of the painting do not have the name of the painter - I will make some inquiries. Speak to you soon, --Hari 06:56, 13 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Shepherd Bush Gurdwara

Hi, Navroop: No I have not been to Shepherd Bush recently, but found their web site at Central Gurdwara. I thought a telephone call may produce a result and as I have a feeling you may be right - I rang Giani ji on 020 7603 2789 and he confirmed that they do have a Library and the best time to go there or speak to Parbhandak would be Wednesday or Sunday 7-9 pm. So, I think you may be right - I suggest you ring Parbhandak Tomorrow to see if they have the book you are looking for. It may be they just have Punjabi newspapers! Let me know how you get on. --Hari 09:31, 17 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Guru Nanak in Baghdad

Navroop, WKWF: Thanks for putting up this article - It's very informative. I am amazed that we have this record preserved for the Panth in an area which has had a very tough history. I have taken the liberty to 'touch up' as few bits on the page - I hope you don't mind? --Hari 14:01, 20 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Article of the Week (AoW)

Hi, Navroop: I think both articles are ready to be put forward as AoW. Both have merits why they stood be put forward. I have just quickly scanned both these articles and I am unable to decide - So flip a coin! --Hari 04:07, 23 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

New Article - Guru ji in Baghdad

WKWF Navroop, I think that's an excellent choice and I think your reasoning is probably correct. Well done. I hope we get a good response --Hari 06:56, 23 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Akal Takhat

Hi Navroop, WKWF: I think the Akal Takhat article looks good and yes - go for it! - Let's see if it does as well as the Baba in Baghdad! --Hari 09:20, 6 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Quotation Box

Hi Navroop, WKWF: I think I understand what you require and I am working on it on my user page under Testing - I think if possible it may be a good idea to create a 'quotation template' but this may take a bit of time to create. Let's see what blessings Maharaj has in store for us! I will contact you when I have a few solutions. - By the way - I like the titles of some of your recent posts - I will read them later - Keep up the Good work! --Hari 12:31, 8 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Is this any good - Quote Template

Hi Navroop, WKWF: I have set up a template called quote that will allow uniform display of quotations - See if this is any good - Sorry, but I took the liberty to change your article Guru Nanak and the Sacred Thread to test the template - See if this does the trick or may be we need to adjust it or try something else? --Hari 16:32, 8 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Improved Quotation Box

WKWF, Navroop, I am sure it should be possible to have a reference line at the top or bottom - I will give it a try but I will call this new one quoter as it will not be compatible with the first one - Let's hope we get more bakshi from Maharaj to get this done as well. --Hari 05:36, 9 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Quotation Box with Reference

Navroop Singh Ji, WKWF, With Malik's help, we have two very similar solutions. One command is called Quoter and the other one is called quoter1 - see test 3 on my homepage for use and results - Quoter1 gives an extra colour which you need to see and decide on - quoter is a more simpler and may be neater solution. I hope one of them will do the trick - please let me know if you want any further changes.

I tried to put the same template (quote) on Wikipedia but unfortunately, they have a 'quote' template already - Do you think for compatibility and porting in the future, we should change quote to quotation? Kind regards, --Hari 12:12, 9 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Article of the Week

Navroop Singh Ji, WKWF: Another week's up and the AoW needs to be changed! I was going to suggest Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as that looks pretty complete and of good standard. It has various links that all appear to be functional and they also have acceptable content level. Further, we may be able to expose the Japji Sahib Step by Step which although not complete may prove interesting. What are your thoughts? - I think Guru Nanak in Tibet will get record attention. I don't think the Dasam Granth is in a ready state although this would also be very popular. I will leave it to you to make the final choice. --Hari 05:03, 13 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Guru Nanak in Tibet

Yes, I think this has the potential to be a very popular article as not a lot of people have keen knowledge about this journey by our master. Great, go for it! --Hari 05:17, 13 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

New Photo at Gurdwara Pather Sahib

Navroop Ji, WKWF, I think you should use the new pic as the main photo & also include the old one at the bottom as you have space. Excellent find - Well done & thank you for getting us the darshan of this wonderful gurdwara. --Hari 08:09, 13 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

See another pic from a different angle of Gurdwara Pather Sahib

Navroop Ji, see another angle of the same Gurdwara at Guru Nanak in Tibet Quotes. Now that I have seen the pic you put up, I can make more sense of this much smaller photo. --Hari 08:18, 13 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Japji Sahib Pauris

Navroop Singh Ji, WKWF: Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. I am at present trying to get the japji sahib audio file split into individual pauris - The present recording is a little too fast for the beginner and so I am looking at a recording by Harbans Singh Jagadhariwala which is a slower recording.(30 minutes instead of 20 for whole of Japji Sahib) Hopefully that will do the trick. I should have the audio done in the next few days.

I think it would be a good idea to put all the known different translations on the database separately as I think that will increase the depth of cover and allow comparison. I would suggest that we put the translation by Harbans Singh Doabia on another page called 'Japji Sahib by Harbans Singh Doabia' and then we will find a way to integrate the whole lot as time progresses. Also, it might be an idea to have all the translations eventually separate from the main article. I would like to see the Harbans Singh Doabia translation - is it in a form to be set up quickly? There is a problem with the translation of pauri 24 - "ant na siftee kahan na ant." which to me gives the meaning - countless don't praise .. I would like to check this out.

The Gurmukhi font presents a problem as a lot of systems do not display this correctly. So we may have to wait until this technology is more readily used. I think when time allows, it would be worth putting up a line by line detailed audio and written system similar to the page by page with Gurmukhi. Also, it may be possible to offer a choice of text to be displayed - so the user would tick Gurmukhi, English, Hindi, English transliteration, etc and have 2 or 3 versions displayed like [1]].

Thanks again for the pat on the back. --Hari 05:43, 14 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

MOOL MANTAR.It is Classical

Dear Navroop Singh ji

Waheguruji ka Khalsa Waheguruji ki Fateh !

I am new to sikhiwiki & novice on net, In the process of gathering my bearing through the maze.

Please accept my whole hearted appreciations for your classical & examplary work on MOOL MANTAR. Pardon my misadventure of supplementing text to the article in rather a crude way .Still another pardon, if I have messed around/damaged your or any other work.

I for sure plan to work better & in harmony with the environment . It will be in the best way of things that the text sould not become an eye sore. Sir, it is at your diposal to any end.

I plan progressing & suggesting the scienific & modren day perspective of SGGS slowly & steadily & look forward to feedback.

My hearty Thanks to Hari Singh Ji for his sweet response immediately after I first got to know SikhiWiki.

Welcome Back!

Nice to see you back on SikhiWiki Navroop!  :)

Bhai Kanhaiya

Navroop Singh Ji, WKWF I am sure you are familiar with the feeling when working on SikhiWiki, that you are working alone in isolation on these articles and sometimes wondering if anyone is really reading them. So you will also understand the feeling of elation when someone who has good understanding of Sikhism acknowledges your work. Bhai Sahib Ji, I am most grateful for your kindness and your wonderful words of encouragement. They are much appreciated. With Guru’s kirpa we will move ahead.

However, I am waiting for you to pull yourself away from essential worldly commitments and delight us with your brilliant talent at writing gripping articles on Sikhi. Bhai Sahib Ji, thank you again and I hope to return this compliment soon! -- Hari Singh 08:33, 11 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Welcome back and hope with Guru’s help we will see many more amazing contributions from you in the future to advance the pure, perfect and divine message of our Guru.

I hope all the diversions of your recent past have been dispelled. --Hari Singh 10:32, 13 November 2005 (Central Standard Time)

sir, WaKhaFa !

  • 2. Does the idea of 'we all users meeting on one map & knowing each other better' (may not work out straight away, however I plan plan to keep a tag )' make any sense & is worth to hold on to, or other better things can be thought instead. Your views will for sure help Mutia.

A very warm welcome!

Navroop Singh ji, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

It is really good to hear from you. I hope all has been well.

I have just been holding the fort for the last couple of years. Only a few articles added recently; mainly small updating of things now and then. Please dive in and enjoy! Its a warm place and there is plenty of space and a lot of work is still left to be done. Please take your pick. Regards. 12:04, 21 November 2014 (CST)
