| You tear off the leaves, O gardener, but in each and every leaf, there is life.

| ਜਿਸ ਪਾਹਨ ਕਉ ਪਾਤੀ ਤੋਰੈ ਸੋ ਪਾਹਨ ਨਿਰਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

| That stone idol, for which you tear off those leaves - that stone idol is lifeless. ||1||

| In this, you are mistaken, O gardener.

| Brahma is in the leaves, Vishnu is in the branches, and Shiva is in the flowers.

| ਤੀਨਿ ਦੇਵ ਪਰਤਖਿ ਤੋਰਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੇਉ ॥੨॥

| When you break these three gods, whose service are you performing? ||2||

| ਪਾਖਾਨ ਗਢਿ ਕੈ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਕੀਨਹਹੀ ਦੇ ਕੈ ਛਾਤੀ ਪਾਉ ॥

| The sculptor carves the stone and fashions it into an idol, placing his feet upon its chest.

| ਜੇ ਝਹ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਹੈ ਤਉ ਗੜਹਣਹਾਰੇ ਖਾਉ ॥੩॥

| If this stone god was true, it would devour the sculptor for this! ||3||

| Rice and beans, candies, cakes and cookies -

| Some have all the thirty-six varieties of delicacies,

| ਇਕਿ ਮਿਟੀਆ ਮਹਿ ਮਿਟੀਆ ਖਾਹਿ ॥<br>

| while others live in the dirt and eat mud.

| Some control the breath, and regulate their breathing.

| Some live by the Support of the Naam, the Name of the Formless Lord.

| The Great Giver lives; no one dies.

| * ਮਜਲਸ ਕੂੜੇ ਲਬ ਕੀ ਪੀ ਪੀ ਹੋਇ ਖਆਰ ॥: >> Wine(ਮਦ/ਮਜਲਸ) relates to Desire/Lust/Lie, which is obvious Wine harm body too and wine of spirit i.e Lie, Desire harm inner body i.e Kaya.

The sweet, Ghee, Meat which people take is of Maya but spirit take another food i.e virtue, Good conduct and modesty. The lines Directly said that without taking The Food of spirit once manmatt will not relieved. The food of Maya keeps no significance than food of Kaya.

| The Dark Age of Kali Yuga is the vessel, filled with the wine

| of sexual desire; the mind is the drunkard.

| ਕਰੋਧ ਕਟੋਰੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਭਰੀ ਪੀਲਾਵਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ॥

| Anger is the cup, filled with emotional attachment, and
| |

| egotism is the server.

| ਮਜਲਸ ਕੂੜੇ ਲਬ ਕੀ ਪੀ ਪੀ ਹੋਇ ਖਆਰ ॥

| Drinking too much in the company of falsehood and greed, one

| is ruined.

| ਕਰਣੀ ਲਾਹਣਿ ਸਤ ਗੜ ਸਚ ਸਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਰ ॥

| So let good deeds be your distillery, and Truth your molasses;

| in this way, make the most excellent wine of Truth.

| ਗਣ ਮੰਡੇ ਕਰਿ ਸੀਲ ਘਿਉ ਸਰਮ ਮਾਸ ਆਹਾਰ ॥

| Make virtue your bread, good conduct the ghee, and modesty the

| Mardaanaa: The human body is the vat, self-conceit is the wine, and desire is the company of drinking buddies. The cup of the mind's longing is overflowing with falsehood, and the Messenger of Death is the cup-bearer. Drinking in this wine, O Nanak, one takes on countless sins and corruptions. So make spiritual wisdom your molasses, the Praise of God your bread, and the Fear of God the meat you eat. O Nanak, this is the true food; let the True Name be your only Support. ||2|| If the human body is the vat, and self-realization is the wine, then a stream of Ambrosial Nectar is produced. Meeting with the Society of the Saints, the cup of the Lord's Love is filled with this Ambrosial Nectar; drinking it in, one's corruptions and sins are wiped away. ||3||

| First, the mortal is conceived in the flesh, and then he dwells in the flesh.

| ਜੀਉ ਪਾਇ ਮਾਸ ਮਹਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਡ ਚੰਮ ਤਨ ਮਾਸ ॥<br>

| When he comes alive, his mouth takes flesh; his bones, skin and body are flesh.

| He comes out of the womb of flesh, and takes a mouthful of flesh at the breast.

| He grows up and is married, and brings his wife of flesh into his home.

| Flesh is produced from flesh; all relatives are made of flesh.

| What is called meat, and what is called green vegetables? What leads to sin?

| It was the habit of the gods to kill the rhinoceros, and make a feast of the burnt offering.

| ਮਾਸ ਛੋਡਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਨਕ ਪਕੜਹਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਾਣਸ ਖਾਣੇ ॥<br>

| Those who renounce meat, and hold their noses when sitting near it, devour men at night.

| ਫੜ ਕਰਿ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੋ ਦਿਖਲਾਵਹਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਝੈ ॥<br>

| They practice hypocrisy, and make a show before other people, but they do not understand anything about meditation or spiritual wisdom.

| ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਧੇ ਸਿਉ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਝ ਕਹੈ ਨ ਕਹਿਆ ਬੂਝੈ ॥<br>

| O Nanak, what can be said to the blind people? They cannot answer, or even understand what is said.

| ਅੰਧਾ ਸੋਇ ਜਿ ਅੰਧ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਿ ਲੋਚਨ ਨਾਹੀ ॥<br>

| They alone are blind, who act blindly. They have no eyes in their hearts.

| ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਕੀ ਰਕਤ ਨਿਪੰਨੇ ਮਛੀ ਮਾਸ ਨ ਖਾਂਹੀ ॥<br>

| They are produced from the blood of their mothers and fathers, but they do not eat fish or meat.

| ਇਸਤਰੀ ਪਰਖੈ ਜਾਂ ਨਿਸਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਓਥੈ ਮੰਧ ਕਮਾਹੀ ॥<br>

| But when men and women meet in the night, they come together in the flesh.

| In the flesh we are conceived, and in the flesh we are born; we are vessels of flesh.

| You know nothing of spiritual wisdom and meditation, even though you call yourself clever, O religious scholar.

| ਬਾਹਰ ਕਾ ਮਾਸ ਮੰਦਾ ਸਆਮੀ ਘਰ ਕਾ ਮਾਸ ਚੰਗੇਰਾ ॥<br>

| O master, you believe that flesh on the outside is bad, but the flesh of those in your own home is good.

| ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਸਹ ਹੋਝ ਜੀਇ ਲਇਆ ਵਾਸੇਰਾ ॥<br>

| All beings and creatures are flesh; the soul has taken up its home in the flesh.

| ਅਭਖ ਭਖਹਿ ਭਖ ਤਜਿ ਛੋਡਹਿ ਅੰਧ ਗਰੂ ਜਿਨ ਕੇਰਾ ॥<br>

| They eat the uneatable; they reject and abandon what they could eat. They have a teacher who is blind.

| ਮਾਸਹ ਨਿੰਮੇ ਮਾਸਹ ਜੰਮੇ ਹਮ ਮਾਸੈ ਕੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ॥<br>

| In the flesh we are conceived, and in the flesh we are born; we are vessels of flesh.

| Meat is allowed in the Puraanas, meat is allowed in the Bible and the Koran. Throughout the four ages, meat has been used.

| ਜਜਿ ਕਾਜਿ ਵੀਆਹਿ ਸਹਾਵੈ ਓਥੈ ਮਾਸ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥<br>

| It is featured in sacred feasts and marriage festivities; meat is used in them.

| ਇਸਤਰੀ ਪਰਖ ਨਿਪਜਹਿ ਮਾਸਹ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਸਲਤਾਨਾਂ ॥<br>

| Women, men, kings and emperors originate from meat.

| ਜੇ ਓਇ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਨਰਕਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਨਹਹ ਕਾ ਦਾਨ ਨ ਲੈਣਾ ॥<br>

| If you see them going to hell, then do not accept charitable gifts from them.

| ਦੇਂਦਾ ਨਰਕਿ ਸਰਗਿ ਲੈਦੇ ਦੇਖਹ ਝਹ ਧਿਙਾਣਾ ॥<br>

| The giver goes to hell, while the receiver goes to heaven - look at this injustice.

| ਆਪਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਲੋਕ ਬਝਾਝ ਪਾਂਡੇ ਖਰਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥<br>

| You do not understand your own self, but you preach to other people. O Pandit, you are very wise indeed.

| ਪਾਂਡੇ ਤੂ ਜਾਣੈ ਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਥਹ ਮਾਸ ਉਪੰਨਾ ॥<br>

| O Pandit, you do not know where meat originated.

| ਤੋਇਅਹ ਅੰਨ ਕਮਾਦ ਕਪਾਹਾਂ ਤੋਇਅਹ ਤਰਿਭਵਣ ਗੰਨਾ ॥<br>

| Corn, sugar cane and cotton are produced from water. The three worlds came from water.

| Water says, "I am good in many ways." But water takes many forms.

| Forsaking these delicacies, one becomes a true Sannyaasee, a detached hermit. Nanak reflects and speaks. ||2||

| They burn away the bonds of the world, and eat a simple diet of grain and water.

| The sky, the earth, the trees, and the water - all are the Creation of the Lord. ||1||

| ਹੇ ਮਨੱਖ! ਜੋ ਕਝ ਤੂੰ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਦਨੀਆ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਭੱਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਹਰਾਮ ਖਾਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਪਰਾਇਆ ਹੱਕ ਖੋਂਹਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।ਰਹਾਉ।

| ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਲ ਮਨੱਖ ਭੂਤਾਂ ਪਰੇਤਾਂ ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਹਰਾਮ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਹਰਾਮ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਉਤੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ) ਮਕੰਮਲ ਕਬਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਜ਼ਕ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।

| You kill living beings, and call it a righteous action. Tell me, brother, what would you call an unrighteous action? You call yourself the most excellent sage; then who would you call a butcher? ||2||

| (ਹੇ ਪਾਂਡੇ! ਇਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਤਸੀ ਮਾਸ ਖਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੰਦਦੇ ਹੋ; ਪਰ ਜੱਗ ਕਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਤਸੀ ਭੀ) ਜੀਵ ਮਾਰਦੇ ਹੋ (ਕਰਬਾਨੀ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ, ਤੇ) ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਮ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹੋ। ਫਿਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦੱਸੋ, ਪਾਪ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਹੈ? (ਜੱਗ ਕਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਤਸੀ ਆਪ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ-ਹਿੰਸਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ, ਪਰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਤਸੀ ਸਰੇਸ਼ਟ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਮਿਥਦੇ ਹੋ। (ਜੇ ਜੀਵ ਮਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ,) ਤਾਂ ਤਸੀ ਕਸਾਈ ਕਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਦੇ ਹੋ? (ਤਸੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਸਾਈ ਕਿਉਂ ਆਖਦੇ ਹੋ ਜੋ ਮਾਸ ਵੇਚਦੇ ਹਨ?।੨।

| ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! (ਮੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਆਖ ਕਿ ਕਰਬਾਨੀ ਦੇ ਬਹਾਨੇ ਮਾਸ ਖਾਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਖਿਚੜੀ ਖਾ ਲੈਣੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸਆਦਲਾ ਲੂਣ ਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ। ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਮਾਸ ਰੋਟੀ ਖਾਣ ਦੀ ਨਿਯਤ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਪਰ (ਕਰਬਾਨੀ ਦਾ ਹੋਕਾ ਦੇ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਨੂੰ) ਜ਼ਬਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਾਂ।੧੮੮।

| ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਜੇ ਲੋਕ 'ਭਗਤਨ ਸੇਤੀ ਗੋਸਟੇ' ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੀਰਥ-ਜਾਤਰਾ ਵਰਤ-ਨੇਮ ਆਦਿਕ ਭੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਸ਼ਰਾਬੀ ਲੋਕ ਭੰਗ ਮੱਛੀ ਭੀ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ-ਕਬਾਬ ਭੀ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਪੀਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਵਿਕਾਰ ਭੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਤੀਰਥ ਵਰਤ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਲਕਲ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।੨੩੩।

| ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ "ਭਾਂਗ ਮਾਛਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਾ" ਤੋਂ ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈਣਾ ਕਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਭੰਗ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਪੋਸਤ ਅਫ਼ੀਮ ਦੀ ਮਨਾਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਇਥੇ ਮੱਛੀ ਦਾ ਮਾਸ ਖਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਕ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਸਾਰੇ ਪਰਸੰਗ ਨੂੰ ਰਲਾ ਕੇ ਪੜਹੋ। ਸਤਸੰਗ ਭੀ ਕਰਨਾ ਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਭੀ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਣੇ-ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਇਸ ਕੰਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਰਜਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਾਮੀ ਲੋਕ ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ-ਮਾਸ ਵਰਤ ਕੇ ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਵਿਭਚਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਵਿਰਤ ਹੰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਤੇ; ਮੱਛੀ ਦਾ ਮਾਸ ਚੂੰਕਿ ਕਾਮ-ਰਚੀ ਵਧੀਕ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਸਿਧ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਭੰਗ ਮੱਛੀ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ ਵਰਤੇ ਹਨ।

| ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ਇਥੇ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ "ਸਾਧੂ" ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਭਾਵ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠੋ, ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਮ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਉ, ਉਥੋਂ ਆ ਕੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲਈ ਜਾਉ। ਇਹ ਤੀਰਥ-ਜਾਤਰਾ, ਵਰਤ-ਨੇਮ ਸਭ ਨਿਸਫਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੇ ਮਨੱਖ ਵਿਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਰਤਦਾ।

| You say that the One Lord is in all, so why do you kill chickens? ||1||

| (ਹੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਤੇ ਮਸਲਮਾਨ ਵੀਰੋ!) ਵੇਦਾਂ ਜਾਂ ਕਰਾਨ ਆਦਿਕ (ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੀਆਂ) ਧਰਮ-ਪਸਤਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠੀਆਂ ਨਾਹ ਆਖੋ। ਝੂਠਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਬੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਧਰਮ-ਪਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। (ਭਲਾ, ਹੇ ਮੱਲਾਂ!) ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਇਹ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਕਿ ਖ਼ਦਾ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਖ਼ਦਾ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਰਬਾਨੀ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ) ਮਰਗ਼ੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ? (ਕੀ ਉਸ ਮਰਗ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ? ਮਰਗ਼ੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠੇ ਖ਼ਦਾ ਦੀ ਅੰਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਖ਼ਦਾ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੀ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਭਾਵ ਹੈ?।੧।
