ਸਲੋਕ੝ ॥
Salok.
Shalok:
ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਪ੝ਰਭ੝ ਝਕ੝ ਹੈ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
Karaṇ kĝraṇ parabẖ ek hai ḝūsar nĝhī ko▫e.
God alone is the Doer of deeds - there is no other at all.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸ੝ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
Nĝnak ṯis balihĝrṇai jal thal mahī▫al so▫e. ((1))
O Nanak, I am a sacrifice to the One, who pervades the waters, the lands, the sky and all space. ((1))

ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥
Asatpaḝī.
Ashtapadee:
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਕਰਨੈ ਜੋਗ੝ ॥
Karan karĝvan karnai jog.
The Doer, the Cause of causes, is potent to do anything.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸ੝ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਗ੝ ॥
Jo ṯis bẖĝvai so▫ī hog.
That which pleases Him, comes to pass.
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਨਹਾਰਾ ॥
Kẖin mėh thĝp uthĝpanhĝrĝ.
In an instant, He creates and destroys.
ਅੰਤ੝ ਨਹੀ ਕਿਛ੝ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰਾ ॥
Anṯ nahī kicẖẖ pĝrĝvĝrĝ.
He has no end or limitation.
ਹ੝ਕਮੇ ਧਾਰਿ ਅਧਰ ਰਹਾਵੈ ॥
Hukme ḝẖĝr aḝẖar rahĝvai.
By His Order, He established the earth, and He maintains it unsupported.
ਹ੝ਕਮੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਹ੝ਕਮਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
Hukme upjai hukam samĝvai.
By His Order, the world was created; by His Order, it shall merge again into Him.
ਹ੝ਕਮੇ ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥
Hukme ūcẖ nīcẖ bi▫uhĝr.
By His Order, one's occupation is high or low.
ਹ੝ਕਮੇ ਅਨਿਕ ਰੰਗ ਪਰਕਾਰ ॥
Hukme anik rang parkĝr.
By His Order, there are so many colors and forms.
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਅਪਨੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
Kar kar ḝekẖai apnī vadi▫ĝ▫ī.
Having created the Creation, He beholds His own greatness.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥
Nĝnak sabẖ mėh rahi▫ĝ samĝ▫ī. ((1))
O Nanak, He is pervading in all. ((1))

ਪ੝ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਮਾਨ੝ਖ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Parabẖ bẖĝvai mĝnukẖ gaṯ pĝvai.
If it pleases God, one attains salvation.
ਪ੝ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਥਰ ਤਰਾਵੈ ॥
Parabẖ bẖĝvai ṯĝ pĝthar ṯarĝvai.
If it pleases God, then even stones can swim.
ਪ੝ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਬਿਨ੝ ਸਾਸ ਤੇ ਰਾਖੈ ॥
Parabẖ bẖĝvai bin sĝs ṯe rĝkẖai.
If it pleases God, the body is preserved, even without the breath of life.
ਪ੝ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗ੝ਣ ਭਾਖੈ ॥
Parabẖ bẖĝvai ṯĝ har guṇ bẖĝkẖai.
If it pleases God, then one chants the Lord's Glorious Praises.
ਪ੝ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰੈ ॥
Parabẖ bẖĝvai ṯĝ paṯiṯ uḝẖĝrai.
If it pleases God, then even sinners are saved.
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੈ ਆਪਨ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ॥
Āp karai ĝpan bīcẖĝrai.
He Himself acts, and He Himself contemplates.
ਦ੝ਹਾ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਕਾ ਆਪਿ ਸ੝ਆਮੀ ॥
Ḏuhĝ siri▫ĝ kĝ ĝp su▫ĝmī.
He Himself is the Master of both worlds.
ਖੇਲੈ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
Kẖelai bigsai anṯarjĝmī.
He plays and He enjoys; He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
ਜੋ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥
Jo bẖĝvai so kĝr karĝvai.
As He wills, He causes actions to be done.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦ੝ਰਿਸਟੀ ਅਵਰ੝ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥
Nĝnak ḝaristī avar na ĝvai. ((2))
Nanak sees no other than Him. ((2))

ਕਹ੝ ਮਾਨ੝ਖ ਤੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਇ ਆਵੈ ॥
Kaho mĝnukẖ ṯe ki▫ĝ ho▫e ĝvai.
Tell me - what can a mere mortal do?
ਜੋ ਤਿਸ੝ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥
Jo ṯis bẖĝvai so▫ī karĝvai.
Whatever pleases God is what He causes us to do.
ਇਸ ਕੈ ਹਾਥਿ ਹੋਇ ਤਾ ਸਭ੝ ਕਿਛ੝ ਲੇਇ ॥
Is kai hĝth ho▫e ṯĝ sabẖ kicẖẖ le▫e.
If it were in our hands, we would grab up everything.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸ੝ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
Jo ṯis bẖĝvai so▫ī kare▫i.
Whatever pleases God - that is what He does.
ਅਨਜਾਨਤ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਰਚੈ ॥
Anjĝnaṯ bikẖi▫ĝ mėh racẖai.
Through ignorance, people are engrossed in corruption.
ਜੇ ਜਾਨਤ ਆਪਨ ਆਪ ਬਚੈ ॥
Je jĝnaṯ ĝpan ĝp bacẖai.
If they knew better, they would save themselves.
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
Bẖarme bẖūlĝ ḝah ḝis ḝẖĝvai.
Deluded by doubt, they wander around in the ten directions.
ਨਿਮਖ ਮਾਹਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਕ੝ੰਟ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
Nimakẖ mĝhi cẖĝr kunt fir ĝvai.
In an instant, their minds go around the four corners of the world and come back again.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸ੝ ਅਪਨੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਦੇਇ ॥
Kar kirpĝ jis apnī bẖagaṯ ḝe▫e.
Those whom the Lord mercifully blesses with His devotional worship -
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੇਇ ॥੩॥
Nĝnak ṯe jan nĝm mile▫e. ((3))
O Nanak, they are absorbed into the Naam. ((3))

ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਨੀਚ ਕੀਟ ਕਉ ਰਾਜ ॥
Kẖin mėh nīcẖ kīt ka▫o rĝj.
In an instant, the lowly worm is transformed into a king.
ਪਾਰਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜ ॥
Pĝrbarahm garīb nivĝj.
The Supreme Lord God is the Protector of the humble.
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਦ੝ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
Jĝ kĝ ḝarisat kacẖẖū na ĝvai.
Even one who has never been seen at all,
ਤਿਸ੝ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਪ੝ਰਗਟਾਵੈ ॥
Ŧis ṯaṯkĝl ḝah ḝis paragtĝvai.
becomes instantly famous in the ten directions.
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਅਪ੝ਨੀ ਕਰੈ ਬਖਸੀਸ ॥
Jĝ ka▫o apunī karai bakẖsīs.
And that one upon whom He bestows His blessings -
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਨ ਗਨੈ ਜਗਦੀਸ ॥
Ŧĝ kĝ lekẖĝ na ganai jagḝīs.
the Lord of the world does not hold him to his account.
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡ੝ ਸਭ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
Jī▫o pind sabẖ ṯis kī rĝs.
Soul and body are all His property.
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਪ੝ਰਗਾਸ ॥
Gẖat gẖat pūran barahm pargĝs.
Each and every heart is illuminated by the Perfect Lord God.
ਅਪਨੀ ਬਣਤ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਾਈ ॥
Apnī baṇaṯ ĝp banĝ▫ī.
He Himself fashioned His own handiwork.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੪॥
Nĝnak jīvai ḝekẖ badĝ▫ī. ((4))
Nanak lives by beholding His greatness. ((4))

ਇਸ ਕਾ ਬਲ੝ ਨਾਹੀ ਇਸ੝ ਹਾਥ ॥
Is kĝ bal nĝhī is hĝth.
There is no power in the hands of mortal beings;
ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਨਾਥ ॥
Karan karĝvan sarab ko nĝth.
the Doer, the Cause of causes is the Lord of all.
ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਬਪ੝ਰਾ ਜੀਉ ॥
Āgi▫ĝkĝrī bapurĝ jī▫o.
The helpless beings are subject to His Command.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸ੝ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਫ੝ਨਿ ਥੀਉ ॥
Jo ṯis bẖĝvai so▫ī fun thī▫o.
That which pleases Him, ultimately comes to pass.
ਕਬਹੂ ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਮਹਿ ਬਸੈ ॥
Kabhū ūcẖ nīcẖ mėh basai.
Sometimes, they abide in exaltation; sometimes, they are depressed.
ਕਬਹੂ ਸੋਗ ਹਰਖ ਰੰਗਿ ਹਸੈ ॥
Kabhū sog harakẖ rang hasai.
Sometimes, they are sad, and sometimes they laugh with joy and delight.
ਕਬਹੂ ਨਿੰਦ ਚਿੰਦ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥
Kabhū ninḝ cẖinḝ bi▫uhĝr.
Sometimes, they are occupied with slander and anxiety.
ਕਬਹੂ ਊਭ ਅਕਾਸ ਪਇਆਲ ॥
Kabhū ūbẖ akĝs pa▫i▫ĝl.
Sometimes, they are high in the Akaashic Ethers, sometimes in the nether regions of the underworld.
ਕਬਹੂ ਬੇਤਾ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥
Kabhū beṯĝ barahm bīcẖĝr.
Sometimes, they know the contemplation of God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰ ॥੫॥
Nĝnak ĝp milĝvaṇhĝr. ((5))
O Nanak, God Himself unites them with Himself. ((5))

ਕਬਹੂ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਬਹ੝ ਭਾਤਿ ॥
Kabhū niraṯ karai baho bẖĝṯ.
Sometimes, they dance in various ways.
ਕਬਹੂ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨ੝ ਰਾਤਿ ॥
Kabhū so▫e rahai ḝin rĝṯ.
Sometimes, they remain asleep day and night.
ਕਬਹੂ ਮਹਾ ਕ੝ਰੋਧ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ॥
Kabhū mahĝ kroḝẖ bikrĝl.
Sometimes, they are awesome, in terrible rage.
ਕਬਹੂੰ ਸਰਬ ਕੀ ਹੋਤ ਰਵਾਲ ॥
Kabahūʼn sarab kī hoṯ ravĝl.
Sometimes, they are the dust of the feet of all.
ਕਬਹੂ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੈ ਬਡ ਰਾਜਾ ॥
Kabhū ho▫e bahai bad rĝjĝ.
Sometimes, they sit as great kings.
ਕਬਹ੝ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਨੀਚ ਕਾ ਸਾਜਾ ॥
Kabahu bẖekẖĝrī nīcẖ kĝ sĝjĝ.
Sometimes, they wear the coat of a lowly beggar.
ਕਬਹੂ ਅਪਕੀਰਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
Kabhū apkīraṯ mėh ĝvai.
Sometimes, they come to have evil reputations.
ਕਬਹੂ ਭਲਾ ਭਲਾ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥
Kabhū bẖalĝ bẖalĝ kahĝvai.
Sometimes, they are known as very, very good.
ਜਿਉ ਪ੝ਰਭ੝ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਵ ਹੀ ਰਹੈ ॥
Ji▫o parabẖ rĝkẖai ṯiv hī rahai.
As God keeps them, so they remain.
ਗ੝ਰ ਪ੝ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚ੝ ਕਹੈ ॥੬॥
Gur parsĝḝ Nĝnak sacẖ kahai. ((6))
By Guru's Grace, O Nanak, the Truth is told. ((6))

ਕਬਹੂ ਹੋਇ ਪੰਡਿਤ੝ ਕਰੇ ਬਖ੝ਯ੝ਯਾਨ੝ ॥
Kabhū ho▫e pandiṯ kare bakẖ▫yĝn.
Sometimes, as scholars, they deliver lectures.
ਕਬਹੂ ਮੋਨਿਧਾਰੀ ਲਾਵੈ ਧਿਆਨ੝ ॥
Kabhū moniḝẖĝrī lĝvai ḝẖi▫ĝn.
Sometimes, they hold to silence in deep meditation.
ਕਬਹੂ ਤਟ ਤੀਰਥ ਇਸਨਾਨ ॥
Kabhū ṯat ṯirath isnĝn.
Sometimes, they take cleansing baths at places of pilgrimage.
ਕਬਹੂ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਮ੝ਖਿ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
Kabhū siḝẖ sĝḝẖik mukẖ gi▫ĝn.
Sometimes, as Siddhas or seekers, they impart spiritual wisdom.
ਕਬਹੂ ਕੀਟ ਹਸਤਿ ਪਤੰਗ ਹੋਇ ਜੀਆ ॥
Kabhū kīt hasaṯ paṯang ho▫e jī▫ĝ.
Sometimes, they becomes worms, elephants, or moths.
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਭਰਮੀਆ ॥
Anik jon bẖarmai bẖarmī▫ĝ.
They may wander and roam through countless incarnations.
ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਜਿਉ ਸ੝ਵਾਗੀ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥
Nĝnĝ rūp ji▫o savĝgī ḝikẖĝvai.
In various costumes, like actors, they appear.
ਜਿਉ ਪ੝ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਨਚਾਵੈ ॥
Ji▫o parabẖ bẖĝvai ṯivai nacẖĝvai.
As it pleases God, they dance.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸ੝ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਇ ॥
Jo ṯis bẖĝvai so▫ī ho▫e.
Whatever pleases Him, comes to pass.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰ੝ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੭॥
Nĝnak ḝūjĝ avar na ko▫e. ((7))
O Nanak, there is no other at all. ((7))

ਕਬਹੂ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਇਹ੝ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Kabhū sĝḝẖsangaṯ ih pĝvai.
Sometimes, this being attains the Company of the Holy.
ਉਸ੝ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ ਬਹ੝ਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
Us asthĝn ṯe bahur na ĝvai.
From that place, he does not have to come back again.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਗਿਆਨ ਪਰਗਾਸ੝ ॥
Anṯar ho▫e gi▫ĝn pargĝs.
The light of spiritual wisdom dawns within.
ਉਸ੝ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਕਾ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਨਾਸ੝ ॥
Us asthĝn kĝ nahī binĝs.
That place does not perish.
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਇਕ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
Man ṯan nĝm raṯe ik rang.
The mind and body are imbued with the Love of the Naam, the Name of the One Lord.
ਸਦਾ ਬਸਹਿ ਪਾਰਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
Saḝĝ basėh pĝrbarahm kai sang.
He dwells forever with the Supreme Lord God.
ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਜਲ੝ ਆਇ ਖਟਾਨਾ ॥
Ji▫o jal mėh jal ĝ▫e kẖatĝnĝ.
As water comes to blend with water,
ਤਿਉ ਜੋਤੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
Ŧi▫o joṯī sang joṯ samĝnĝ.
his light blends into the Light.
ਮਿਟਿ ਗਝ ਗਵਨ ਪਾਝ ਬਿਸ੝ਰਾਮ ॥
Mit ga▫e gavan pĝ▫e bisrĝm.
Reincarnation is ended, and eternal peace is found.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੝ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਕ੝ਰਬਾਨ ॥੮॥੧੧॥
Nĝnak parabẖ kai saḝ kurbĝn. ((8)(11))
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to God. ((8)(11))
