Reason : Zabar Khan Took Wife of Devi Das to basi Kalan, and Guru Gobind SIngh Send his elder sahizada to restore the dola and bring Zabar Khan to anandpur

The Skirmish of Bassi Kalan was held between Sahibzada Ajit Singh, with his 100 Singhs and Zabar Khan with his soldiers.

Reason of Conflict

Zabar Khan

Hakim Zabar Khan was owner of Bassi Kalan with 21 Bassi Villages in hoshiarpur district. He used to torture the local Hindu’s residents and used to kidnap the local girls for indecent purposes. He always do zulam on the Hindus of the village, even having his minions snatch the doli of the young hindu brides so he could rape them before their marriages were consumated. His reputation for doing evil was, well known as he did not limit his liberties with the Hindu brides , wives and daughters to just his village.

Devi Das Dola

Devi Das was a poor brahmin who belong to Jaijon(A Vill. Near Hoshiarpur).

In context to this, Hakam Jabar Khan forcibly kidnapped the newly wedded wife of poor Brahmin Devi Das and took her to his palace. On this poor Brahmin Devi Das. A Poor Brahmin name Devi Das who lived in village Jaijon whose wife was taken by Hakim Zabar Khan and carried off to the Hakim's village and locked aaway in his palace. The Brahmin was sad hearted and wept before the qazis and other Religious leaders, but nobody cared. Finding that no one could be of assistance to him, he went to Guru Gobind Singh at Anandpur Sahib and and related the story to him.

Ardas to Guru Gobind Singh

When Guru Gobind Singh jee heard the story of Brahmin Devi Dass. He send Baba Ajit Singh with 200 Singhs. He orderd Baba Ajit Singh to arrest Zabar Khan and bring Wife of Devi Das to him. Guru Sahib Also Advised that if they attack back, do use your sword.

Moreover Guru Sahib told him to meet his maternal's house which was at Bajwara(Gurdwara Janam Asthan Mata Sunder kaur)

Plan

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Meet Baba ...... Singh who was staying near Bajraur. He was dweller of that area. He know about that area and was a Sikh of Guru Gobind Singh. Sahibzada and Singhs went to him, then they planned to attack during evening because at that time the mughals were going to prepare for their Sharab and Shabab etc. Sahibzada planning was to arrest Zabar khan and to send him to anandpur. So they planned to attack during evening.

The Place Of Clash

SAHIBZADA AJIT SINGH JI attacked Basi area where Hakam Jabar Khan was spending his evening time. Many Pathans were killed, many ran away at moment. After a long fight with Hakam Jabar Khan, he was arrested and was tied up. Newly wedded wife of poor Brahmin Devi Das was handed over to him safely and SAHIBZADA AJIT SINGH JI started helping his wounded Singhs who came along with him.

Aftermath

Baba Ajit Singh send arrested Pathan Zabar khan and wife of devi das to anandpur with sikhs.

Many Singhs were Wounded SAHIBZADA AJIT SINGH JI started helping his wounded Singhs who came along with him. Some of Singhs were Cremated at Chukhandi Sahib, Some were cremated at Bajrour, A Sikh Bhai Karam Singh was cremated at Baddon

On Monday evening they reached Ladhewal where Gurudwara Sahib is situated. Some of the Singhs died in the night as their condition was quite bad. So SAHIBZADA AJIT SINGH JI himself did all the final rituals of these Singhs on Tuesday morning. After this he ordered rest of the singhs to move to Anandpur Sahib. So in the Remembrance of SAHIBZADA AJIT SINGH JI and brave singhs who died here, this Gurudwara Sahib is situated.
