Ropar also now known as Rupnagar is a town and district located in Punjab a state in the north east of India. This district is located to the west of Punjab. Ropar, enjoys great historical importance for various reasons. This district is the home for many historically important Gurdwaras including:

Ropar is also important as the famous treaty of Amritsar which fixed the Satluj as the eastern boundary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh's kingdom was signed here between the Maharaja and Lord William Bentick. It is also the originating point of Sirhind Canal and the Bist Doab Canal, the two oldest canals of the present Punjab. Recently a thermal power plant has also been set up here. Gurudwara Bhattha Sahib and Gurudwara Parivar Vichhora, two important Sikh historical shrines lie at a small distance from this city.
