In 2004 the leader of the Akal Takht, the highest Sikh political institution, declared the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat as "Anti-Sikh", and forbade all Sikhs from having any association with it. In 2009, Rulda Singh, the president of the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat was assassinated.
