ਅਥ ਇੰਦਰਜੀਤ ਜੱਧ ਕਥਨੰ ॥ अथ इंदढ़रजीत जढ़ढ़ध कथनं ॥ Now begins the description of war with Inderjit :
ਸਿਰਖਿੰਡੀ ਛੰਦ ॥ सिरखिंडी छंद ॥ SIRKHINDI STANZA
ਜੱਟੇ ਵੀਰ ਜੱਝਾਰੇ ਧੱਗਾਂ ਵੱਜੀਆਂ ॥ ਬੱਜੇ ਨਾਦ ਕਰਾਰੇ ਦਲਾਂ ਮਸਾਹਦਾ ॥ जढ़ढ़टे वीर जढ़ढ़झारे धढ़गां वढ़जीआं ॥ बढ़जे नाद करारे दलां मढ़साहदा ॥ The trumpets sounded and the warriors faced one another and both the armies, prepared for war while thundering;
ਲੱਝੇ ਕਾਰਣਯਾਰੇ ਸੰਘਰਿ ਸੂਰਮੇ ॥ ਵੱਠੇ ਜਾਣ ਡਰਾਰੇ ਘਣੀਅਰ ਕੈਬਰੀ ॥੪੬੭॥ लढ़ढ़झे कारणयारे संघरि सूरमे ॥ वढ़ढ़ठे जाणढ़ डरारे घणीअर कैबरी ॥४६७॥ They who performed very difficult tasks, fought with one another and the arrows were discharged like the frightful flying serpents.467.
ਵੱਜੇ ਸੰਗਲੀਆਲੇ ਹਾਠਾਂ ਜੱਟੀਆਂ ॥ ਖੇਤਿ ਬਹੇ ਮੱਛਾਲੇ ਕਹਰ ਤਤਾਰਚੇ ॥ वढ़जे संगलीआले हाठां जढ़ढ़टीआं ॥ खेति बहे मढ़ढ़छाले कहर ततारचे ॥ The big chained trumpets sounded and the rows of soldiers began to fight with one another, the long-whiskered and tyrannical warriors marched forward;
ਡਿੱਗੇ ਵੀਰ ਜੱਝਾਰੇ ਹੂੰਗਾਂ ਫੱਟੀਆਂ ॥ ਬੱਕੇ ਜਾਣ ਮਤਵਾਲੇ ਭੰਗਾਂ ਖਾਇਕੈ ॥੪੬੮॥ डिढ़गे वीर जढ़ढ़झारे हूंगां फढ़ढ़टीआं ॥ बढ़के जाण मतवाले भंगां खाइकै ॥४६८॥ Alongwith them the powerful fighters began to sob on falling in the battlefield.The warriors being intoxicated are shouting like someone shrieking in inebriation after eating hemp. 468
ਓਰੜਝ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਧੱਗਾਂ ਵਾਇਕੈ ॥ ਵਾਹਿ ਫਿਰੇ ਤਰਵਾਰੀ ਸੂਰੇ ਸੂਰਿਆਂ ॥ ओरड़झ हंकारी धढ़गां वाइकै ॥ वाहि फिरे तरवारी सूरे सूरिआं ॥ The proud warriors marched forward after causing the resonance of big trumpets and began to strike blows with their swords.
ਵੱਗੇ ਰਤ ਝਲਾਰੀ ਝਾੜੀ ਕੈਬਰੀ ॥ ਪਾਈ ਧੂੰਮ ਲਝਾਰੀ ਰਾਵਣ ਰਾਮ ਦੀ ॥੪੬੯॥ वढ़गे रतढ़ झढ़लारी झाड़ी कैबरी ॥ पाई धूम लढ़झारी रावण राम दी ॥४६९॥ With the shower of arrows a continuous stream of blood flowed and this war of Ram and Ravana became famours on all the four sides.469.
ਚੋਬੀ ਧਉਸ ਵਜਾਈ ਸੰਘਰ ਮੱਚਿਆ ॥ ਬਾਹਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਵੈਰਾਈ ਤਰੇ ਤਤਾਰਚੇ ॥ चोबी धउस वजाई संघरढ़ मढ़चिआ ॥ बाहि फिरै वैराई तढ़रे ततारचे ॥ With the sounding of trumpets a terrible war began and the enemies wandered here and there on the fast-moving steeds;
ਹੂਰਾਂ ਚਿੱਤਿ ਵਧਾਈ ਅੰਬਰ ਪੂਰਿਆ ॥ ਜੋਧਿਯਾਂ ਦੇਖਣ ਤਾਈ ਹੂਲੇ ਹੋਈਆਂ ॥੪੭੦॥ हूरां चिढ़ति वधाई अमबर पूरिआ ॥ जोधियां देखण ताई हूले होईआं ॥४७०॥ There on the sky the heavenly damsels gathered together with the zeal of wedding the brave warriors and came nearer in order to see them waging the war.470.
ਪਾਧੜੀ ਛੰਦ ॥ पाधड़ी छंद ॥ PAADHARI STANZA
ਇੰਦਰਾਰ ਵੀਰ ਕੱਪਿਯੋ ਕਰਾਲ ॥ ਮਕਤੰਤ ਬਾਣ ਗਹਿ ਧਨ ਬਿਸਾਲ ॥ इंदढ़रार वीर कढ़ढ़पियो कराल ॥ मढ़कतंत बाण गहि धनढ़ बिसाल ॥ Inderjit in great fury, holding his wide bow, began to discharge arrows;
ਥਰਕੰਤ ਲੱਥ ਫਰਕੰਤ ਬਾਹ ॥ ਜੱਝੰਤ ਸੂਰ ਅੱਛਰੈ ਉਛਾਹ ॥੪੭੧॥ थरकंत लढ़ढ़थ फरकंत बाह ॥ जढ़ढ़झंत सूर अछरै उछाह ॥४७१॥ The corpses writhed and the arms of the warriors fluttered; the warriors began to fight and the heavenly damsels were filled with joy.471.
ਚਮਕੰਤ ਚੱਕਰ ਸਰਖੰਤ ਸੇਲ ॥ ਜੱਮੇ ਜਟਾਲ ਜਣ ਗੰਗ ਮੇਲ ॥ चमकंत चढ़कढ़र सरखंत सेल ॥ जढ़ढ़मे जटाल जणढ़ गंग मेल ॥ The discs glittered, the lances moved and the fighters with matted hair sped up to fight as if they are going to take a bath in the Ganges.
ਸੰਘਰੇ ਸੂਰ ਆਘਾਇ ਘਾਇ ॥ ਬਰਖੰਤ ਬਾਣ ਚੜਿ ਚਉਪ ਚਾਇ ॥੪੭੨॥ संघरे सूर आघाइ घाइ ॥ बरखंत बाण चड़ि चउप चाइ ॥४७२॥ The wounded warriors were killed and on the other hand the warriors began to shower arrows with fourfold zeal.472.
ਸੱਮਲੇ ਸੂਰ ਆਹਰੇ ਜੰਗ ॥ ਬਰਖੰਤ ਬਾਣ ਬਿਖ ਧਰ ਸਰੰਗ ॥ सढ़मढ़ले सूर आहढ़रे जंग ॥ बरखंत बाण बिख धर सढ़रंग ॥ The frightful warriors entangled in war are showering arrows like poisonous serpents;
ਨਭਿ ਹਵੈ ਅਲੋਪ ਸਰ ਬਰਖ ਧਾਰ ॥ ਸਭ ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਕਿੰਨੇ ਸਮਾਰ ॥੪੭੩॥ नभि हढ़वै अलोप सर बरख धार ॥ सभ ऊच नीच किंने सढ़मार ॥४७३॥ With the shower of arrows the sky is not visible and there in no differentiation between high and low.473.
ਸਭ ਸਸਤਰ ਅਸਤਰ ਬਿੱਦਿਆ ਪਰਬੀਨ ॥ ਸਰ ਧਾਰ ਬਰਖ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਚੀਨਿ ॥ सभ ससतढ़र असतढ़र बिढ़दिआ पढ़रबीन ॥ सर धार बरख सरदार चीनि ॥ All the warriors specialize in the science of weaponry and locating the general they are showering arrows on them;
ਰਘਰਾਜ ਆਦਿ ਮੋਹੇ ਸ ਬੀਰ ॥ ਦਲ ਸਹਿਤ ਭੂਮਿ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਅਧੀਰ ॥੪੭੪॥ रघढ़राज आदि मोहे सढ़ बीर ॥ दल सहित भूमि डिढ़गे अधीर ॥४७४॥ Even Ram, the king of Raghu clan was beguiled and fell on the earth alongwith his army.474.
ਤਬ ਕਹੀ ਦੂਤ ਰਾਵਣਹਿੰ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਕਪਿ ਕਟਕ ਆਜ ਜੀਤਿਯੋ ਬਨਾਇ ॥ तब कही दूत रावणहिं जाइ ॥ कपि कटक आजढ़ जीतियो बनाइ ॥ Then the messengers went to give the news to Ravana that the forces of monkeys have been defeated;
ਸੀਅ ਭਜਹ ਆਜ ਹਝ ਕੈ ਨਿਚੀਤ ॥ ਸੰਘਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਣਿ ਇੰਦਰਜੀਤ ॥੪੭੫॥ सीअ भजहढ़ आजढ़ हढ़झ कै निचीत ॥ संघरे राम रणि इंदढ़रजीत ॥४७५॥ And he could certainly wed Sita on that day because Inderjit has killed ram in the war.475.
ਤਬ ਕਹੇ ਬੈਣ ਤਰਿਜਟੀ ਬਲਾਇ ॥ ਰਣ ਮਰਿਤਕ ਰਾਮ ਸੀਤਹਿ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥ तब कहे बैण तढ़रिजटी बढ़लाइ ॥ रण मढ़रितक राम सीतहि दिखाइ ॥ Then Ravana called the demoness named Trajata and asked her to show the dead Ram to Sita;
ਲੈ ਗਈ ਨਾਥ ਜਹਿ ਗਿਰੇ ਖੇਤ ॥ ਮਰਿਗ ਮਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜਿਯੋ ਸਪਤ ਅਚੇਤ ॥੪੭੬॥ लै गई नाथ जहि गिरे खेत ॥ मढ़रिग मार सिंघ जियो सढ़पत अचेत ॥४७६॥ She rook away Sita from that place with her tantric power to the place where ram was sleeping in unconscious state like a lion after killing the deer.476.
ਸੀਅ ਨਿਰਖ ਨਾਥ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਿਸਾਨ ॥ ਦਸ ਅਉਰ ਚਾਰ ਬਿੱਦਿਆ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥ सीअ निरख नाथ मन महि रिसान ॥ दस अउर चार बिढ़दिआ निधान ॥ Seeing Ram in such a state, the mind of Sita was filled with extreme agony because Ram was the store-house of fourteen arts and it was impossible to make her believe in such an event;
ਪੜਿ ਨਾਗ ਮੰਤਰ ਸੰਘਰੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥ ਪਤਿ ਭਰਾਤ ਜਿਯਾਇ ਚਿਤਿ ਭਯੋ ਹਲਾਸ ॥੪੭੭॥ पड़ि नाग मंतढ़र संघरी पासि ॥ पति भढ़रात जियाइ चिति भयो हढ़लास ॥४७७॥ Sita went near Ram reciting Nagmantra and reviving both Ram and Lakshman her mind was filled with joy.477.
ਸੀਅ ਗਈ ਜਗੇ ਅੰਗਰਾਇ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਦਲ ਸਹਿਤ ਭਰਾਤ ਜਤ ਧਰਮ ਧਾਮ ॥ सीअ गई जगे अंगराइ राम ॥ दल सहित भढ़रात जढ़त धरम धाम ॥ When Sita went back, Ram woke up alongwith his brother and forces.
ਬੱਜੇ ਸ ਨਾਦਿ ਗੱਜੇ ਸ ਬੀਰ ॥ ਸੱਜੇ ਹਥਿਯਾਰ ਭੱਜੇ ਅਧੀਰ ॥੪੭੮॥ बढ़जे सढ़ नादि गढ़जे सढ़ बीर ॥ सढ़जे हथियार भढ़जे अधीर ॥४७८॥ The brave fighters thundered bedecking themselves with weapons and the great warriors with power of endurance began to run away from the battlefield.478.
ਸੰਮਲੇ ਸੂਰ ਸਰ ਬਰਖ ਜੱਧ ॥ ਹਨਿ ਸਾਲ ਤਾਲ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ਕਰੂੱਧ ॥ समढ़ले सूर सर बरख जढ़ढ़ध ॥ हनि साल ताल बिकढ़राल कढ़रूढ़ध ॥ The warriors with frightful prowess began to shower arrows in the war and being highly infuriated began to destroy even the trees;]
ਤਜਿ ਜੱਧ ਸੱਧ ਸਰ ਮੇਘ ਧਰਣ ॥ ਥਲ ਗਯੋ ਨਿਕੰਭਿਲਾ ਹੋਮ ਕਰਣ ॥੪੭੯॥ तजि जढ़ढ़ध सढ़ढ़ध सढ़र मेघ धरण ॥ थल गयो निकढ़ढ़मभिला होम करण ॥४७९॥ At this time Inderjit Mehgnad forsook the war-arena and returned to perform the Hom Yajna (Sacrifice).479.
ਲਘਬੀਰ ਤੀਰ ਲੰਕੇਸ ਆਨਿ ॥ ਇਮ ਕਹੈ ਬੈਣ ਤਜਿ ਭਰਾਤ ਕਾਨ ॥ लघढ़बीर तीर लंकेस आनि ॥ इम कहै बैण तजि भढ़रात कान ॥ Coming near the younger brother Vibhishan said that,
ਆਇ ਹੈ ਸੱਤਰ ਇਹ ਘਾਤਿ ਹਾਥ ॥ ਇੰਦਰਾਰਿ ਬੀਰ ਅਰਿ ਬਰ ਪਰਮਾਥ ॥੪੮੦॥ आइ है सढ़तढ़रढ़ इह घाति हाथ ॥ इंदढ़रारि बीर अरि बर पढ़रमाथ ॥४८०॥ At that time his supreme enemy and the mighty warrior Inderjit is wwithing your ambush.480.
ਨਿਜ ਮਾਸ ਕਾਟ ਕਰ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਮ ॥ ਥਰਹਰਤ ਭੂੰਮਿ ਅਰ ਚਕਤ ਬਯੋਮ ॥ निज मास काट कर करत होम ॥ थरहरत भूमि अर चकत बयोम ॥ He is performing havana (sacrifice) by chopping his flesh, with which the whole earth is trembling and the sky is wondering.
ਤਹ ਗਯੋ ਰਾਮ ਭਰਾਤਾ ਨਿਸੰਗਿ ॥ਕਰ ਧਰੇ ਧਨਖ ਕਟਿ ਕਸਿ ਨਿਖੰਗ ॥੪੮੧॥ तह गयो राम भढ़राता निसंगि ॥कर धरे धनढ़ख कटि कसि निखंग ॥४८१॥ Hearing this, Lakshman went there fearlessly with bow in his hand and quiver tied to his back.481.
ਚਿੰਤ ਸ ਚਿਤ ਦੇਵੀ ਪਰਚੰਡ ॥ ਅਰ ਹਣਿਯੋ ਬਾਣ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਖੰਡ ॥ चिंत सढ़ चित देवी पढ़रचंड ॥ अर हणियो बाण कीनो दढ़खंड ॥ Inderjit began to recite for the manifestation of the goddess and Lakshman discharged his arrows and killed Inderjit into two halves.
ਰਿਪ ਫਿਰੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਦੰਦਭਿ ਬਜਾਇ ॥ ਉਤ ਭਜੇ ਦਈਤ ਦਲਪਤਿ ਜਝਾਇ ॥੪੮੨॥ रिप फिरे मारि दढ़ंदभि बजाइ ॥ उत भजे दईत दलपति जढ़झाइ ॥४८२॥ Lakshman returned with his forces, playing on the drum and on the other side the demons ran away on seeing their general dead.482.
