Misl pronounced "me-sah-l" stands for a division or group that was formed during the 16th century onwards by the Sikhs to administrate the various groups and geographical areas of Punjab and India to make it easier to manage the population as the numbers of Sikhs increased. The whole of the Sikh community were divided into Misls and each Misl had a leader or Jathedar
