Kiratpur was established in 1627 by the 6th Prophet, Guru Hargobind. The place is associated with the memory of a Muslim Saint, Pir Buddan Shah who was gifted with a very long life. It is situated on the bank of river Sutlej and is at a distance of about 10 km from Anandpur Sahib towards the south, on the Nangal-Rupnagar-Chandigarh road (NH21) and about 30 km north of Rupnagar. It is a sacred place for the Sikhs as several of their Gurus visited and had close links with this locality.
