Gurudwara Pehli Patshahi Trivanmalay is a Manji Sahib built to preserve the memory of the visit of Guru Nanak Sahib. Located in Trivanmalay (located at 12.22°N′79.07, E°′) a town in district Arkat (Tamilnadu province), visited by Guru Nanak Sahib during his first missionary journey. It is situated 210 km from Bangalore and 185 km from Chennai.

Guru Nanak more than likely stopped here to meet with the many yogis and siddhars who have gathered at Annamalai hill since ancient times. The hill is still a major Holy Site for Shaivites.

Manji Guru Amar Das used the term, Manji to refer to the various regions in Punjab and other places where he established a division or sub-group for the efficient administration of the affairs of the Sikhs. He originally divided the Sikh Sangat into 22 branches across India.

Getting Here

  • Road - Trivanmalay is connected to Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka by road. The Chittor - Cuddalore highway runs through the town.
  • Train - A railway line between Vellore and Villupuram passes through Trivanmalay. Conversion from narrow to broad guage rail has been causing troubles.
  • By Air - The nearest airport is at Chennai some 195kms.

Definitions

  • Pehli Patshahi - lit. the first master / Guru Nanak; Patshahi or Patishah is a Persian term meaning Shah of Shahs; in English - King of Kings. The title has been used to refer to the Khalifs in Bagdad, Persia, Istanbull and the Moghuls in India as well as a title of the Sikh Gurus.
  • A Manji (a small charpai or cot) where the local Granthi sat while the congregation gathered around.
