ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ सूही महला ५ ॥ Sūhī mėhlā 5. Soohee, Fifth Mehl:

ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ घर महि ठाकुरु नदरि न आवै ॥ Gẖar mėh ṯẖākur naḏar na āvai. Within the home of his own self, he does not even come to see his Lord and Master.

ਗਲ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਹਣੁ ਲੈ ਲਟਕਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ गल महि पाहणु लै लटकावै ॥१॥ Gal mėh pāhaṇ lai latkāvai. ||1|| And yet, around his neck, he hangs a stone god. ||1||

ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਫਿਰਤਾ ॥ भरमे भूला साकतु फिरता ॥ Bẖarme bẖūlā sākaṯ firṯā. The faithless cynic wanders around, deluded by doubt.

ਨੀਰੁ ਬਿਰੋਲੈ ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਮਰਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ नीरु बिरोलै खपि खपि मरता ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Nīr birolai kẖap kẖap marṯā. ||1|| rahā▫o. He churns water, and after wasting his life away, he dies. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਸੁ ਪਾਹਣ ਕਉ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਹਤਾ ॥ जिसु पाहण कउ ठाकुरु कहता ॥ Jis pāhaṇ ka▫o ṯẖākur kahṯā. That stone, which he calls his god,

ਓਹੁ ਪਾਹਣੁ ਲੈ ਉਸ ਕਉ ਡੁਬਤਾ ॥੨॥ ओहु पाहणु लै उस कउ डुबता ॥२॥ Oh pāhaṇ lai us ka▫o dubṯā. ||2|| that stone pulls him down and drowns him. ||2||

ਗੁਨਹਗਾਰ ਲੂਣ ਹਰਾਮੀ ॥ गुनहगार लूण हरामी ॥ Gunahgār lūṇ harāmī. O sinner, you are untrue to your own self;

ਪਾਹਣ ਨਾਵ ਨ ਪਾਰਗਿਰਾਮੀ ॥੩॥ पाहण नाव न पारगिरामी ॥३॥ Pāhaṇ nāv na pārgiramī. ||3|| a boat of stone will not carry you across. ||3||

ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ गुर मिलि नानक ठाकुरु जाता ॥ Gur mil Nānak ṯẖākur jāṯā. Meeting the Guru, O Nanak, I know my Lord and Master.

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੯॥ जलि थलि महीअलि पूरन बिधाता ॥४॥३॥९॥ Jal thal mahī▫al pūran biḏẖāṯā. ||4||3||9|| The Perfect Architect of Destiny is pervading and permeating the water, the land and the sky. ||4||3||9||

ਜੋ ਪਾਥਰ ਕਉ ਕਹਤੇ ਦੇਵ ॥ जो पाथर कउ कहते देव ॥ Jo pāthar ka▫o kahṯe ḏev. Those who call a stone their god-

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੇਵ ॥ ता की बिरथा होवै सेव ॥ Ŧā kī birthā hovai sev. their service is useless.

ਜੋ ਪਾਥਰ ਕੀ ਪਾਂਈ ਪਾਇ ॥ जो पाथर की पांई पाइ ॥ Jo pāthar kī pāʼn▫ī pā▫e. Those who fall at the feet of a stone god-

ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਘਾਲ ਅਜਾਂਈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ तिस की घाल अजांई जाइ ॥१॥ Ŧis kī gẖāl ajāʼn▫ī jā▫e. ||1|| their work is wasted in vain. ||1||

ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਹਮਰਾ ਸਦ ਬੋਲੰਤਾ ॥ ठाकुरु हमरा सद बोलंता ॥ Ŧẖākur hamrā saḏ bolanṯā. My Lord and Master speaks forever.

ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ सरब जीआ कउ प्रभु दानु देता ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Sarab jī▫ā ka▫o parabẖ ḏān ḏeṯā. ||1|| rahā▫o. God gives His gifts to all living beings. ||1||Pause||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਦੇਉ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਅੰਧੁ ॥ अंतरि देउ न जानै अंधु ॥ Anṯar ḏe▫o na jānai anḏẖ. The Divine Lord is within the self, but the spiritually blind one does not know this.

ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕਾ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਪਾਵੈ ਫੰਧੁ ॥ भ्रम का मोहिआ पावै फंधु ॥ Bẖaram kā mohi▫ā pāvai fanḏẖ. Deluded by doubt, he is caught in the noose.

ਨ ਪਾਥਰੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਦੇਇ ॥ न पाथरु बोलै ना किछु देइ ॥ Na pāthar bolai nā kicẖẖ ḏe▫e. The stone does not speak; it does not give anything to anyone.

ਫੋਕਟ ਕਰਮ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਹੈ ਸੇਵ ॥੨॥ फोकट करम निहफल है सेव ॥२॥ Fokat karam nihfal hai sev. ||2|| Such religious rituals are useless; such service is fruitless. ||2||

ਜੇ ਮਿਰਤਕ ਕਉ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਚੜਾਵੈ ॥ जे मिरतक कउ चंदनु चड़ावै ॥ Je mirṯak ka▫o cẖanḏan cẖaṛāvai. If a corpse is anointed with sandalwood oil,

ਉਸ ਤੇ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਵਨ ਫਲ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ उस ते कहहु कवन फल पावै ॥ Us ṯe kahhu kavan fal pāvai. what good does it do?

ਜੇ ਮਿਰਤਕ ਕਉ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਰੁਲਾਈ ॥ जे मिरतक कउ बिसटा माहि रुलाई ॥ Je mirṯak ka▫o bistā māhi rulā▫ī. If a corpse is rolled in manure,

ਤਾਂ ਮਿਰਤਕ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਘਟਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥ तां मिरतक का किआ घटि जाई ॥३॥ Ŧāʼn mirṯak kā ki▫ā gẖat jā▫ī. ||3|| what does it lose from this? ||3||

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਉ ਕਹਉ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ॥ कहत कबीर हउ कहउ पुकारि ॥ Kahaṯ Kabīr ha▫o kaha▫o pukār. Says Kabeer, I proclaim this out loud -

ਸਮਝਿ ਦੇਖੁ ਸਾਕਤ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥ समझि देखु साकत गावार ॥ Samajẖ ḏekẖ sākaṯ gāvār. behold, and understand, you ignorant, faithless cynic.

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਘਰ ਗਾਲੇ ॥ दूजै भाइ बहुतु घर गाले ॥ Ḏūjai bẖā▫e bahuṯ gẖar gāle. The love of duality has ruined countless homes.

ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਾਲੇ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੨॥ राम भगत है सदा सुखाले ॥४॥४॥१२॥ Rām bẖagaṯ hai saḏā sukẖāle. ||4||4||12|| The Lord's devotees are forever in bliss. ||4||4||12||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ पउड़ी ॥ Pa▫oṛī. Pauree:

ਤਟ ਤੀਰਥ ਦੇਵ ਦੇਵਾਲਿਆ ਕੇਦਾਰੁ ਮਥੁਰਾ ਕਾਸੀ ॥ तट तीरथ देव देवालिआ केदारु मथुरा कासी ॥ Ŧat ṯirath ḏev ḏevāli▫ā keḏār mathurā kāsī. River-banks, sacred shrines, idols, temples, and places of pilgrimage like Kaydarnaat'h, Mat'huraa and Benares,

ਕੋਟਿ ਤੇਤੀਸਾ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਸਣੁ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੈ ਜਾਸੀ ॥ कोटि तेतीसा देवते सणु इंद्रै जासी ॥ Kot ṯeṯīsā ḏevṯe saṇ inḏrai jāsī. the three hundred thirty million gods, along with Indra, shall all pass away.

ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਚਾਰਿ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸ ਸਮਾਸੀ ॥ सिम्रिति सासत्र बेद चारि खटु दरस समासी ॥ Simriṯ sāsṯar beḏ cẖār kẖat ḏaras samāsī. The Simritees, Shaastras, the four Vedas and the six systems of philosophy shall vanish.

ਪੋਥੀ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਗੀਤ ਕਵਿਤ ਕਵਤੇ ਭੀ ਜਾਸੀ ॥ पोथी पंडित गीत कवित कवते भी जासी ॥ Pothī pandiṯ gīṯ kaviṯ kavṯe bẖī jāsī. Prayer books, Pandits, religious scholars, songs, poems and poets shall also depart.

ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀਆ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਲੈ ਵਾਸੀ ॥ जती सती संनिआसीआ सभि कालै वासी ॥ Jaṯī saṯī sanni▫āsī▫ā sabẖ kālai vāsī. Those who are celibate, truthful and charitable, and the Sannyaasee hermits are all subject to death.

ਮੁਨਿ ਜੋਗੀ ਦਿਗੰਬਰਾ ਜਮੈ ਸਣੁ ਜਾਸੀ ॥ मुनि जोगी दिग्मबरा जमै सणु जासी ॥ Mun jogī ḏigambrā jamai saṇ jāsī. The silent sages, the Yogis and the nudists, along with the Messengers of Death, shall pass away.

ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਵਿਣਸਣਾ ਸਭ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥ जो दीसै सो विणसणा सभ बिनसि बिनासी ॥ Jo ḏīsai so viṇsaṇā sabẖ binas bināsī. Whatever is seen shall perish; all will dissolve and disappear.

ਥਿਰੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਹੋਸੀ ॥੧੮॥ थिरु पारब्रहमु परमेसरो सेवकु थिरु होसी ॥१८॥ Thir pārbarahm parmesaro sevak thir hosī. ||18|| Only the Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord, is permanent. His servant becomes permanent as well. ||18|

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ आसा महला ५ ॥ Āsā mėhlā 5. Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਉਦਕ ਇਸਨਾਨੀ ॥ आठ पहर उदक इसनानी ॥ Āṯẖ pahar uḏak isnānī. Twenty-four hours a day, he takes his cleansing bath in water;

ਸਦ ਹੀ ਭੋਗੁ ਲਗਾਇ ਸੁਗਿਆਨੀ ॥ सद ही भोगु लगाइ सुगिआनी ॥ Saḏ hī bẖog lagā▫e sugi▫ānī. he makes continual offerings to the Lord; he is a true man of wisdom.

ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕਾਹੂ ਛੋਡੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ बिरथा काहू छोडै नाही ॥ Birthā kāhū cẖẖodai nāhī. He never leaves anything uselessly.

ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਾਗਹ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ बहुरि बहुरि तिसु लागह पाई ॥१॥ Bahur bahur ṯis lāgah pā▫ī. ||1|| Again and again, he falls at the Lord's Feet. ||1||

ਸਾਲਗਿਰਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਸੇਵਾ ॥ सालगिरामु हमारै सेवा ॥ Sālgirām hamārai sevā. Such is the Saalagraam, the stone idol, which I serve;

ਪੂਜਾ ਅਰਚਾ ਬੰਦਨ ਦੇਵਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ पूजा अरचा बंदन देवा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Pūjā arcẖā banḏan ḏevā. ||1|| rahā▫o. such is my worship, flower-offerings and divine adoration as well. ||1||Pause||

ਘੰਟਾ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸੁਨੀਐ ਚਹੁ ਕੁੰਟ ॥ घंटा जा का सुनीऐ चहु कुंट ॥ Gẖantā jā kā sunī▫ai cẖahu kunt. His bell resounds to the four corners of the world.

ਆਸਨੁ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ॥ आसनु जा का सदा बैकुंठ ॥ Āsan jā kā saḏā baikunṯẖ. His seat is forever in heaven.

ਜਾ ਕਾ ਚਵਰੁ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਝੂਲੈ ॥ जा का चवरु सभ ऊपरि झूलै ॥ Jā kā cẖavar sabẖ ūpar jẖūlai. His chauri, his fly-brush, waves over all.

ਤਾ ਕਾ ਧੂਪੁ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਫੁਲੈ ॥੨॥ ता का धूपु सदा परफुलै ॥२॥ Ŧā kā ḏẖūp saḏā parfulai. ||2|| His incense is ever-fragrant. ||2||

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸੰਪਟੁ ਹੈ ਰੇ ਜਾ ਕਾ ॥ घटि घटि स्मपटु है रे जा का ॥ Gẖat gẖat sampat hai re jā kā. He is treasured in each and every heart.

ਅਭਗ ਸਭਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੈ ਸਾਧਾ ॥ अभग सभा संगि है साधा ॥ Abẖag sabẖā sang hai sāḏẖā. The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is His Eternal Court.

ਆਰਤੀ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ॥ आरती कीरतनु सदा अनंद ॥ Ārṯī kīrṯan saḏā anand. His Aartee, his lamp-lit worship service, is the Kirtan of His Praises, which brings lasting bliss.

ਮਹਿਮਾ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਦਾ ਬੇਅੰਤ ॥੩॥ महिमा सुंदर सदा बेअंत ॥३॥ Mahimā sunḏar saḏā be▫anṯ. ||3|| His Greatness is so beautiful, and ever limitless. ||3||

ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਲਹਨਾ ॥ जिसहि परापति तिस ही लहना ॥ Jisahi parāpaṯ ṯis hī lahnā. He alone obtains it, who is so pre-ordained;

ਸੰਤ ਚਰਨ ਓਹੁ ਆਇਓ ਸਰਨਾ ॥ संत चरन ओहु आइओ सरना ॥ Sanṯ cẖaran oh ā▫i▫o sarnā. he takes to the Sanctuary of the Saints' Feet.

ਹਾਥਿ ਚੜਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਲਗਿਰਾਮੁ ॥ हाथि चड़िओ हरि सालगिरामु ॥ Hāth cẖaṛi▫o har sālgirām. I hold in my hands the Saalagraam of the Lord.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੩੯॥੯੦॥ कहु नानक गुरि कीनो दानु ॥४॥३९॥९०॥ Kaho Nānak gur kīno ḏān. ||4||39||90|| Says Nanak, the Guru has given me this Gift. ||4||39||90|

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਤਨੁ ਸੁਆਹ ॥ अंतरि अगनि बाहरि तनु सुआह ॥ Anṯar agan bāhar ṯan su▫āh. The fire of desire rages within; outwardly they apply ashes to their bodies.

ਗਲਿ ਪਾਥਰ ਕੈਸੇ ਤਰੈ ਅਥਾਹ ॥ गलि पाथर कैसे तरै अथाह ॥ Gal pāthar kaise ṯarai athāh. There is a stone around their neck - how can they cross the unfathomable ocean?

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਸੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ॥ जा कै अंतरि बसै प्रभु आपि ॥ Jā kai anṯar basai parabẖ āp. Those, within whom God Himself abides -

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਜਨ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਤਿ ॥੫॥ नानक ते जन सहजि समाति ॥५॥ Nānak ṯe jan sahj samāṯ. ||5|| O Nanak, those humble beings are intuitively absorbed in the Lord. ||5||

ਰਾਮਕਲੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ रामकली महला ५ ॥ Rāmkalī mėhlā 5. Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:

ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਪੜਤਾ ਟੀਕਾ ਸਹਿਤ ॥ मुख ते पड़ता टीका सहित ॥ Mukẖ ṯe paṛ▫ṯā tīkā sahiṯ. You read the scriptures, and the commentaries,

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਾਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਹਤ ॥ हिरदै रामु नही पूरन रहत ॥ Hirḏai rām nahī pūran rahaṯ. but the Perfect Lord does not dwell in your heart.

ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਲੋਕ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵੈ ॥ उपदेसु करे करि लोक द्रिड़ावै ॥ Upḏes kare kar lok ḏariṛ▫āvai. You preach to others to have faith,

ਅਪਨਾ ਕਹਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਨ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ अपना कहिआ आपि न कमावै ॥१॥ Apnā kahi▫ā āp na kamāvai. ||1|| but you do not practice what you preach. ||1||

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਬੇਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ॥ पंडित बेदु बीचारि पंडित ॥ Pandiṯ beḏ bīcẖār pandiṯ. O Pandit, O religious scholar, contemplate the Vedas.

ਮਨ ਕਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ मन का क्रोधु निवारि पंडित ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Man kā kroḏẖ nivār pandiṯ. ||1|| rahā▫o. Eradicate anger from your mind, O Pandit. ||1||Pause||

ਆਗੈ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਸਾਲ ਗਿਰਾਮੁ ॥ आगै राखिओ साल गिरामु ॥ Āgai rākẖi▫o sāl girām. You place your stone god before yourself,

ਮਨੁ ਕੀਨੋ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮੁ ॥ मनु कीनो दह दिस बिस्रामु ॥ Man kīno ḏah ḏis bisrām. but your mind wanders in the ten directions.

ਤਿਲਕੁ ਚਰਾਵੈ ਪਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥ तिलकु चरावै पाई पाइ ॥ Ŧilak cẖarāvai pā▫ī pā▫e. You apply a ceremonial tilak mark to its forehead, and fall at its feet.

ਲੋਕ ਪਚਾਰਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ लोक पचारा अंधु कमाइ ॥२॥ Lok pacẖārā anḏẖ kamā▫e. ||2|| You try to appease the people, and act blindly. ||2||

ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਅਰੁ ਆਸਣੁ ਧੋਤੀ ॥ खटु करमा अरु आसणु धोती ॥ Kẖat karmā ar āsaṇ ḏẖoṯī. You perform the six religious rituals, and sit wearing your loin-cloth.

ਭਾਗਠਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਪੜੈ ਨਿਤ ਪੋਥੀ ॥ भागठि ग्रिहि पड़ै नित पोथी ॥ Bẖāgaṯẖ garihi paṛai niṯ pothī. In the homes of the wealthy, you read the prayer book.

ਮਾਲਾ ਫੇਰੈ ਮੰਗੈ ਬਿਭੂਤ ॥ माला फेरै मंगै बिभूत ॥ Mālā ferai mangai bibẖūṯ. You chant on your mala, and beg for money.

ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਤਰਿਓ ਮੀਤ ॥੩॥ इह बिधि कोइ न तरिओ मीत ॥३॥ Ih biḏẖ ko▫e na ṯari▫o mīṯ. ||3|| No one has ever been saved in this way, friend. ||3||

ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ सो पंडितु गुर सबदु कमाइ ॥ So pandiṯ gur sabaḏ kamā▫e. He alone is a Pandit, who lives the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਕੀ ਓਸੁ ਉਤਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥ त्रै गुण की ओसु उतरी माइ ॥ Ŧarai guṇ kī os uṯrī mā▫e. Maya, of the three qualities, leaves him.

ਚਤੁਰ ਬੇਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥ चतुर बेद पूरन हरि नाइ ॥ Cẖaṯur beḏ pūran har nā▫e. The four Vedas are completely contained within the Lord's Name.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸਰਣੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੭॥ नानक तिस की सरणी पाइ ॥४॥६॥१७॥ Nānak ṯis kī sarṇī pā▫e. ||4||6||17|| Nanak seeks His Sanctuary. ||4||6||17||

ਭੈਰਉ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਘਰੁ ੧ भैरउ महला ५ घरु १ Bẖairo mėhlā 5 gẖar 1 Bhairao, Fifth Mehl, First House:

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥ Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ. One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਸਗਲੀ ਥੀਤਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਡਾਰਿ ਰਾਖੀ ॥ सगली थीति पासि डारि राखी ॥ Saglī thīṯ pās dār rākẖī. Setting aside all other days, it is said,

ਅਸਟਮ ਥੀਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਨਮਾ ਸੀ ॥੧॥ असटम थीति गोविंद जनमा सी ॥१॥ Astam thīṯ govinḏ janmā sī. ||1|| that the Lord was born on the eighth lunar day. ||1||

ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਨਰ ਕਰਤ ਕਚਰਾਇਣ ॥ भरमि भूले नर करत कचराइण ॥ Bẖaram bẖūle nar karaṯ kacẖrā▫iṇ. Deluded and confused by doubt, the mortal practices falsehood.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ जनम मरण ते रहत नाराइण ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Janam maraṇ ṯe rahaṯ nārā▫iṇ. ||1|| rahā▫o. The Lord is beyond birth and death. ||1||Pause||

ਕਰਿ ਪੰਜੀਰੁ ਖਵਾਇਓ ਚੋਰ ॥ करि पंजीरु खवाइओ चोर ॥ Kar panjīr kẖavā▫i▫o cẖor. You prepare sweet treats and feed them to your stone god.

ਓਹੁ ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਮਰੈ ਰੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਢੋਰ ॥੨॥ ओहु जनमि न मरै रे साकत ढोर ॥२॥ Oh janam na marai re sākaṯ dẖor. ||2|| God is not born, and He does not die, you foolish, faithless cynic! ||2||

ਸਗਲ ਪਰਾਧ ਦੇਹਿ ਲੋਰੋਨੀ ॥ सगल पराध देहि लोरोनी ॥ Sagal parāḏẖ ḏėh loronī. You sing lullabies to your stone god - this is the source of all your mistakes.

ਸੋ ਮੁਖੁ ਜਲਉ ਜਿਤੁ ਕਹਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਜੋਨੀ ॥੩॥ सो मुखु जलउ जितु कहहि ठाकुरु जोनी ॥३॥ So mukẖ jala▫o jiṯ kahėh ṯẖākur jonī. ||3|| Let that mouth be burnt, which says that our Lord and Master is subject to birth. ||3||

ਜਨਮਿ ਨ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ जनमि न मरै न आवै न जाइ ॥ Janam na marai na āvai na jā▫e. He is not born, and He does not die; He does not come and go in reincarnation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੧॥ नानक का प्रभु रहिओ समाइ ॥४॥१॥ Nānak kā parabẖ rahi▫o samā▫e. ||4||1|| The God of Nanak is pervading and permeating everywhere. ||4||1||
