Gur: Difference between revisions

GUR (short for 'Satgur') is a Gurbani term & means 'ALL the Shabads' i.e. 'Gurbani' itself in Satgur Granth Sahib . It is interesting to understand that this Gurbani term refers to its ownself . Further in Gurmat all the following apparently similar sounding terms mean diiferently in different contexts. However, as a general broad rule with few context sensitive exceptions..

• 'Gur'- Pilural, means 'All Shabads' in Satgur Granth Sahib

e.g.

• 'Gur(u)'(u(Aunkad) is not pronounced)- Singular, means 'one Shabad'

e.g.

• Guru means 'Human Moral teacher'

e.g.

..In Punjabi

• 'Gur'- may mean one Shabad or Many Shabads depending upon the context.

e.g. koi gur dass means 'please tell me some idea'

or

panj gur dass means 'Please tell me five ideas'

• Guru (Punjabi term) means 'Human Moral Teacher'

e.g. Nanak Sahib pahily Guru sann means 'Nanak Sahib was first Guru'
