ਪਰ ਹਰਨਾ ਲੋਭ੝ ਝੂਠ ਨਿੰਦ ਇਵ ਹੀ ਕਰਤ ਗ੝ਦਾਰੀ ॥ ਮ੝ਰਿਗ ਤ੝ਰਿਸਨਾ ਆਸ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮੀਠੀ ਇਹ ਟੇਕ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਾਧਾਰੀ ॥1॥ 

ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਆਵਰਦਾ ਜਾਇ ਬ੝ਰਿਥਾਰੀ ॥ ਜੈਸੇ ਕਾਗਦ ਕੇ ਭਾਰ ਮੂਸਾ ਟੂਕਿ ਗਵਾਵਤ ਕਾਮਿ ਨਹੀ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ 

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪਾਰਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਸ੝ਆਮੀ ਇਹ ਬੰਧਨ ਛ੝ਟਕਾਰੀ ॥ ਬੂਡਤ ਅੰਧ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੝ਰਭ ਕਾਢਤ ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਸੰਗਾਰੀ ॥2॥11॥42॥

Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehla:

Stealing the property of others, acting in greed, lying and slandering - in these ways, he passes his life.
He places his hopes in false mirages, believing them to be sweet; this is the support he installs in his mind. ||1||

The faithless cynic passes his life uselessly.
He is like the mouse, gnawing away at the pile of paper, making it useless to the poor wretch. ||Pause||

Have mercy on me, O Supreme Lord God, and release me from these bonds.
The blind are sinking, O Nanak; God saves them, uniting them with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||2||11||42||

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਪਰ—ਪਰਾਇਆ (ਧਨ)। ਹਰਨਾ—ਚ੝ਗਾਣਾ। ਨਿੰਦ—ਨਿੰਦਿਆ। ਇਵ ਹੀ—ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੝ਹਾਂ ਹੀ। ਗ੝ਦਾਰੀ—ਗ੝ਜ਼ਾਰੀ, ਲੰਘਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਮ੝ਰਿਗ ਤ੝ਰਿਸਨਾ—ਠਗ—ਨੀਰਾ, ਤ੝ਰੇਹ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਿੱਸਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰੇਤ—ਥਲਾ। ਮਿਥਿਆ—ਝੂਠੀ। ਮਨਹਿ—ਮਨ ਵਿਚ। ਸਾਧਾਰੀ—ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ।੧।

ਸਾਕਤ—ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟ੝ੱਟਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨ੝ੱਖ, ਮਾਇਆ—ਵੇੜ੝ਹਿਆ ਜੀਵ। ਆਵਰਦਾ—ਆਰਜਾ, ਉਮਰ। ਬ੝ਰਿਥਾਰੀ—ਵਿਅਰਥ। ਕਾਗਦ—ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ {ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਗ੝ਦਾਰੀ', 'ਆਵਰਦਾ', 'ਕਾਗਦ' ਦਾ ਅੱਖਰ 'ਦ' ਅੱਖਰ 'ਜ' ਤੋਂ ਬਦਲਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੝ਹਾਂ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਕਾਜੀ' ਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਪਾਠ 'ਕਾਦੀ' ਹੈ। 'ਜਪ੝' ਵਿਚ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਕਾਦੀਆ' ਮਿਰਜ਼ਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਗਰ 'ਕਾਦੀਆਂ' ਵਾਸਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ ਭੀ 'ਕਾਜੀਆ' ਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਪਾਠ ਹੈ}। ਟੂਕਿ—ਟ੝ੱਕ ਟ੝ੱਕ ਕੇ। ਗਾਵਾਰ—ਮੂਰਖ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਪਾਰਬ੝ਰਹਮ—ਹੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ! ਅੰਧ—(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਅੰਨ੝ਹੇ ਹੋ ਚ੝ਕੇ। ਪ੝ਰਭ—ਹੇ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ! ਸੰਗਾਰੀ—ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ।੨।

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਟ੝ੱਟੇ ਹੋਝ ਮਨ੝ੱਖ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗ੝ਜ਼ਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਚੂਹਾ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਢੇਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਢੇਰ ਟ੝ੱਕ ਟ੝ੱਕ ਕੇ ਗਵਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਕਾਗ਼ਜ਼ ਉਸ ਮੂਰਖ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਾਇਆ ਧਨ ਚ੝ਰਾਣਾ, ਲੋਭ ਕਰਨਾ; ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਣਾ, ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨੀ-ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੝ਹਾਂ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ (ਸਾਕਤ ਆਪਣੀ ਉਮਰ) ਗ੝ਜ਼ਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤਿਹਾਝ ਹਿਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਠਗ-ਨੀਰਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਸਾਕਤ ਝੂਠੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠੀਆਂ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਝੂਠੀਆਂ ਆਸਾਂ ਦੀ) ਟੇਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਥੰਮ੝ਹੀ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।

ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੝ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਇਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਛ੝ਡਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੝ਹੇ ਹੋ ਚ੝ਕੇ ਮਨ੝ੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ, ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਡ੝ੱਬਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ, ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਡ੝ੱਬਣੋਂ ਬਚਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।੨।੧੧।੪੨।
