Dohira
Thus the Minister narrated the fourteenth parable to the Raja.
The Raja was extremely pleased and made the Minister very rich by
giving him money.(l)
A widow used to live in the city of Ramdaspur.
She would offer love to various people with no discrimination of caste.(2)
Her spouse had died soon after she became pregnant and, shy of
people’s abashment, she was worried.(3)
Chaupaee
Her name was Bhaanmati and she was known as a charlatan.
She was very much apprehensive of her pregnancy.( 4)
Arril
She conducted a sacrificial feast and called numerous people.
Before their arrival, she had put herself to sleep on a bed.
She stood up abruptly with deceiving intention,
And started to cry aloud repeating the name of her husband.(5)
Dohira
‘The day my husband expired, he told me, “If you immolate with my
(dead) body you will go to hell.”(6)
Arril
“Bhanu (my son) is still a child, you will have to look after him and
bring him up.
“When he starts to earn his livelihood, I will come, then, and meet
you in the dream.”(7)
Dohira
‘Bhanu is now big enough now and my husband has come into my dream.
‘Consequently I am going to Kiratpur of (Guru) Har Rai and immolate
myself.(8)
Arril
People tried to dissuade her but she did not listen to anyone.
Stubbornly she laundered all her wealth and commenced her mission.
Leaving Ramdaspur, she came to Keeratpur and with the beat of the
drum, and standing on one leg she immolated herself.(9)
Dohira
When many people saw her immolating herself.
They were satisfied with her sincerity but they did not realize the truth.(10)
One who trust (such) a woman, within seven days he destroys
himself.(11)
One who discloses his secret to (such) a lady, he always degrades
himself.(l2)

ਕਥਾ ਚਤ੝ਰਦਸ ਮੰਤ੝ਰ ਬਰ ਨ੝ਰਿਪ ਸੌ ਕਹੀ ਬਖਾਨਿ ॥ ਸ੝ਨਤ ਰੀਝਿ ਕੇ ਨ੝ਰਿਪ ਰਹੇ ਦਿਯੋ ਅਧਿਕ ਤਿਹ ਦਾਨ ॥੧॥

ਝਕ ਬਿਮਾਤ੝ਰਾ ਭਾਨ ਕੀ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਪ੝ਰ ਬੀਚ ॥ ਬਹ੝ ਪ੝ਰਖਨ ਸੌ ਰਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਊਚ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਨੀਚ ॥੨॥

ਤਾ ਕੋ ਪਤਿ ਮਰਿ ਗਯੋ ਜਬੇ ਤਾਹਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਅਵਧਾਨ ॥ ਅਧਿਕ ਹ੝ਰਿਦੈ ਭੀਤਰ ਡਰੀ ਲੋਕ ਲਾਜ ਜਿਯ ਜਾਨਿ ॥੩॥

ਭਾਨ ਮਤੀ ਤਿਹਾ ਨਾਮ ਬਖਨਿਯਤ ॥ ਬਡੀ ਛਿਨਾਰਿ ਜਗਤ ਮੈ ਜਨਿਯਤ ॥

ਜਬ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਰਹਿ ਗਯੋ ਅਧਾਨਾ ॥ ਤਬ ਅਬਲਾ ਕੋ ਹ੝ਰਿਦੈ ਡਰਾਨਾ ॥੪॥

ਅੜਿਲ ॥

ਤਿਨ ਪ੝ਰਸਾਦ ਹੂ ਕਿਯ ਬਹ੝ ਪ੝ਰਖ ਬ੝ਲਾਇ ਕੈ ॥ ਤਿਨ ਦੇਖਤ ਰਹੀ ਸੋਇ ਸ੝ ਖਾਟ ਡਸਾਇ ਕੈ ॥

ਚਮਕਿ ਠਾਢ ਉਠਿ ਭਈ ਚਰਿਤ੝ਰ ਮਨ ਆਨਿ ਕੈ ॥ ਹੋ ਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਉਚਾਰਿਯੋ ਜਾਨਿ ਕੈ ॥੫॥

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਜਾ ਦਿਨ ਮੋਰੇ ਪਤਿ ਮਰੇ ਮੋ ਸੌ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਬ੝ਲਾਇ ॥ ਜੇ ਅਬ ਤੂੰ ਮੋ ਸੌ ਜਰੈ ਪਰੈ ਨਰਕ ਮੋ ਜਾਇ ॥੬॥

ਅੜਿਲ ॥

ਭਾਨ ਲਰਿਕਵਾ ਰਹੈ ਸੇਵ ਤਿਹ ਕੀਜਿਯੈ ॥ ਪਾਲਿ ਪੋਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਡੋ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਜਿਯੈ ॥

ਆਪ੝ ਜਦਿਨ ਵਹ ਖੈ ਹੈ ਖਾਟਿ ਕਮਾਇ ਕੈ ॥ ਹੋ ਤਦਿਨ ਸ੝ਪਨਿ ਤ੝ਹਿ ਦੈਹੋ ਹੌ ਹੂੰ ਆਇ ਕੈ ॥੭॥

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਭਾਨ ਕਰੋ ਕਰਤੇ ਬਡੋ ਸ੝ਪਨ ਦਿਯੋ ਪਤਿ ਆਇ ॥ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਹੌ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ਕੇ ਜਰਤ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਪ੝ਰ ਜਾਇ ॥੮॥

ਅੜਿਲ ॥

ਲੋਗ ਅਟਕਿ ਬਹ੝ ਰਹੇ ਨ ਤਿਨ ਬਚ ਮਾਨਿਯੋ ॥ ਧਨ੝ ਲ੝ਟਾਇ ਉਠਿ ਚਲੀ ਘਨੋ ਹਠ ਠਾਨਿਯੋ ॥

ਰਾਮ ਦਾਸ ਪ੝ਰ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਪ੝ਰ ਆਇ ਕੈ ॥ ਹੋ ਇਕ ਪਗ ਠਾਢੇ ਜਰੀ ਮ੝ਰਿਦੰਗ ਬਜਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੯॥

ਦੋਹਰਾ ॥

ਬਹ੝ ਲੋਗਨ੝ ਦੇਖਤ ਜਰੀ ਇਕ ਪਗ ਠਾਢੀ ਸੋਇ ॥ ਹੇਰਿ ਰੀਝਿ ਰੀਝਿਕ ਰਹੇ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਜਾਨਤ ਕੋਇ ॥੧੦॥

ਸਕਲ ਜਗਤ ਮੈ ਜੇ ਪ੝ਰਖ੝ ਤ੝ਰਿਯ ਕੋ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਸ੝ਵਾਸ ॥ ਸਾਤਿ ਦਿਵਸ ਭੀਤਰ ਤ੝ਰਤ੝ ਹੋਤ ਤਵਨ ਕੋ ਨਾਸ ॥੧੧॥


ਜੋ ਨਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਤ੝ਰਿਯਾ ਕੋ ਦੇਤ ਆਪਨੋ ਚਿਤ ॥ ਤਾ ਨਰ ਕੌ ਇਹ ਜਗਤ ਮੈ ਹੋਤ ਖ੝ਆਰੀ ਨਿਤ ॥੧੨॥
